  1. Madbopper,, just had a look at the slab master on there website ,, looks very good I make the odd natural edged slab table up to 120cm wide and can see that using one of these would probably cut the basic prep time by 3/4 especialy on crotch cuts where there has been alot of grain sinkage or around burr patches,, Ive looked for something similar before but never found this model ,, ive made sled for my router as the americans do but cutter width is limited and biggest i found was 2 inch and it works but no where near as fast as the slab master,, Only other options avaiable in this country i found was lucas or pterson sawmill do a planer attachment , and norwood sawmills do a carriage planer/log house moulder which im sure could easily be widenedand fitted to another table/standle, norwood want £5k for theres , if i had a slab master there would be money in making big tables ,
  2. And another for the Plummers ,, fitted big tree and windblow tickets into one day ,
  3. Im not a user borate or similar but can see where theyd be good to use in some situations , A couple of questions ,, can there be health problems arrising from inhaling dust from treated timber,, And also do people using the treatment tell there customers its been treated as over the years ive seen no mentions about treatment by people selling wood
  4. Do you do much ova my way ,, allways lookin 4 interesting LOCAL trees ,more of what i do is on face book -- BELLA WOOD ,,
  5. Roberton,, between hawick and craik forest
  6. Tom d ,, they probs did,, seem about another dozen hardwoods on the estate and loads of brokin tops ,and probs about 150 sitka that was thinned last year ,, got to go to another area in the mornin to clear some more from track through wood and im thinkin its gonna be bad ,high ground and on windward edge,, very unusual wind direction ,, Made a phone call to the owner of the estate tonight and had the pleasure of saying- remember that tree i said needed attention ..
  7. hopefully this time

  14. piece of plywood under the bag, and winch up the ramp,,
  15. ive been running an arrowsmith dehumidifer unit inside a highly insulated and dmp lined garden shed for about 6 years,, shed size 9 foot x6 foot x 5 foot timber stack,, biggest cost in my thinking is the heating ,, 2 inch thick takes 7-8 weeks but the dehumidifier is on timer and is running about 12 hours per day, so in reality i could dry dry twice as much timber ,but dont have space at my workshop for bigger kiln,, ive looked into the heat exchanger route before , and my ideal would be a concrete slab with under floor heating pipes heated by a wood burner with boiler burning workshop plannings and sawdust , high density insulated panel walls and roof , using heat vent with heat exchangers ,, and most important part of any new kiln would be a rolling track to load the kiln,, as allways ,comes down to costs and time but more importantly the kiln ive got WORKS ,,,, forgot to say ive got 3 10 inch fans to keep the air moving , and inch to 1 1/2 inch timber can be dried in 5-6 weeks
  16. As youll of seen when changing blades ,,, theres not alot to them, , proper bandwheels are the hard bit to get ,, and it looks like the makers have taken the number of the hydraulic motor,,
  17. tomtrees -- problem i found with trekkasaw wasnt up and down movement of the tracks , its the side to side movement that slows down the milling speed ,mine sometimes jumps into the cut and jams ,, my trekkasaw saw head in in the workshop being fitted on a rolling carriage similar to lumbermate 2000 but with threaded rod to raise and lower power by hydraulic motor,, near fnnished just waiting on parts
  18. the more modern the stove the better theyll be on softwood ,, older less efficent stoves burn it to fast
  19. My choice would be a big serra,, very very expensive,,, got a norwood and trekka saw ,, very little to go wrong using narrow band blades ,, wide blades = lots more head aches

  22. cross cut it and see the colours and youll get an idea of how sound or rotten it is ,, youll make good money for the sound spalted stuff ,, spalted beech is my best seller
  23. had a customer of mine move over there,, wanted to take his woodworking machines over there and his stock of wood ,, he had toget special movers in who sorted out what i think was some sort of radiation treatment on the machines so no wood diseases could get over there into there natural enviroment ,, wood was a no no ,, i wish this country was a bit more like that with what they let in as imports
  24. cheers for the info ROVERS90
  25. i got stopped filling cans at morrisons ,, theyve took the can off the shelf and the staff say the got a memo saying not to sell in cans,, smaller garage let me fill up
