Question to other forestry workers Been down on money lately working with harvesters , outsiders ,felling banks, winch to machines ,, Ive been tryin to work out what wear and tear costs are per day to cover bars , chains , saw parts , boots , trousers etc ,, and of course saw's I'm thinking on £17 per day , What do others think ,, I'VE just made to call to say i cant work for one contracter due the feeling of im not making enough money , with this contracter i was told i needed to go PAYE but ive been supplying all my own kit

Hello Kevm ,, The figures for major engine are about what i had in my mind and yes i realised pumps need to be in he region of 3000rpm I got my kw and hp mixed up, trekka saw has 67 hp engine,, Ive used flowfit alot for hydraulic stuff and rate them ,, Ive got everything needed for a pto driven power pack apart from a suitable gearbox,, can any other loglogic sawmill owners help any ??

Hello ,, looking for some advice on what ratio gearbox to get for hydraulic pumps to drive loglogic sawmill , double pumps group 3 + group 2 ,, Sawmill was run off a fordson major engine with pumps connected direct to flywheel ,, go ge he saw to run reasonable the engine had to be run flat out at high revs which probs still wasnt enough rpm for the pumps ,, Engine is about to go bang so im looking at the option of making pto power pack ,, I dont want tractor running at tick over as it laboured the fordson engine when cutting hard and i think trekkasaw engine are 65kw Anybody got a pto power pack or anybody got any advice Cheers

I use a cut off 500ml coke bottle cut in half as funnel to fill oregon combi can , leave the round bit that used to be attached to cap as a seal,, i dont like coke but buy a bottle to use a funel ,

You should of come looked in the summer!!!,, just sold a wagon load and sold 8 tractor trailer loads in 3m length last couple of months ,, not much left that would go on wagon under 20 inch now,, i will have more available but hoping people will take up the trailer load option -

Ive got ring's on mine and there still strait with very little mushrooming,, A friend used his without and is mushroomed and now bent out of line making knocking in at first a little awkward,, I sanded the end of mine on a belt sander to a tapertill it slided on, when on sander keep turning it Edit ,, one ring per wedge

My big question is how do you get the sawdust out the spare change bowl without sucking up the money ?? I live by myself

Depends on what the wood is and how wide the boards are ,, most straight grained timbers 5-6mm ,, burry or piipy elm can easily need 12 mm to remove all the depressions,,

peatff I got the saw from the big online seller on here,, saving 100-170 localy ,, these saws can be worked on easy , but yes i should of tried my local dealer for warranty but id just sold the 372 it was replacing and my 560 wont run a 24 inch,, The way i looked at was ive got old exhaust + 2 hours = saw fixed,, I have since got a new 560 which was from local supplier costing me 120extra, but that supplier is now giving up husky as they cant do anything to autotune so out of pocket again,, Im finding that the newer saw are made with weaker parts as clutch / chain tensioner cover on 560 and 372 have both got 2 lump out of each and brake handle on 372 xtorq has a crack in it and brake handle from older saws dont fit as x torq is about 10 mm longer ,,

Hello , yes had a good check and couldn't find any there pieces,, i think its been pressed to hard when moulded giving a weak point,, It's going full cycle now turning flywheel by hand as im still waiting for exhaust gasket to come through post,, A Quick question,, ive forgot how(where )gasket does back in ,, Is it exhaust , heat sheild , gasket , cylinder ???????? Hello again ,, managed to find a little time to look at saw ,, As pictures it was part of the exhaust stuck at the to of the cylinder, Thanks again for your help,

I put the original bolts back in ,, it's to cold in my workshop tonight but ill try and have some further check tomoz when i get back ,, It looks like its going to the top then i have to turn flywheel the other way to get it to go down ,, It does sound like there something in there somewhere,, Thanks for your help ,,,

Hello ,, looking for a little guidance incase im missing an something ovious,, Lost the 2 small bolts that bolt exhaust to bracket and used for approx 10 mins (near finnishing time ),, then exhaust started vibing bad ,, So got home took exhaust of and main exhaust bolts where still tight holding gasket and sheild in place but exhaust had sheered away leaving bolts and gasket attached to cylinder,, Put on a new exhaust from a scrapped saw i had in shed ,, but now saw wont pull over ,, After taking pull start cover off ive found the piston will only go to the top when turning flywheel ,, turn flywheel other way piston goes down Am i missing something simple here ????? saw is 4 months old and dont realy want to pull the head off it ,, and im thinking i may have problems now with warranty due to working on it myself

The forestry commission funded trapping in the scottish borders around craik forest which still had alot of red's,, A few estates and farms around the south side and the valley where i live were paid to control and also take blood sample to try and see if parapox disease was in the area,also having feeding stations with sticky blocks to monitor for red's, and other paper work , i was trapping on one estate which still had rare sightings ,,grey's were easy to catch at first then they get harder as become trap shy or due to more food available not interested in trap food,, It works, there is alot of reds now but the greys are going up again,, but there not going to recolonise the whole country as red's prefer softwood plantations mostly and greys prefer hardwoods,, Payment went from commission to RDP system and only the estate owners could claim the money and a couple of local squirrel groups got funding for full time trappers

As wood wasp said near 10 litres a day can be used when 2 are working together , saws never stop , one man felling the other is cutting gob on next tree then start snedding down to where harvester proceess,,, with harvester waiting your under pressure to keep going ,, Not little saws used , 70- 90 cc to cut the huge bapp's is needed and if your LUCKY the log is cut to 6.2 metrs ,if not 2.8 chip
