  1. I have a husqvarna 576xp, can't fault it! It lives with a 18" bar but I stick a 24" on when up a tree, doesn't feel like it's struggling at all in my opinion, cracking saw, you could look at a husky 372xp too
  2. Try Adrian at heartwoods tree surgeons ltd, their yards 10min north of Warwick 0800 028 9072
  3. Try looking for a cab star, carries the weight well and are quite affordable, I bought mine for £1800, w-reg 120,000 miles and still going strong
  4. I have a 14mm rope and that's done me really well, I've rigged some big piece of beech the it her day (6' 20-24" ) no problem. If I was starting out I'd get..... 14mm rope 50m Small isc pulley 16mm dead eye sling Couple of steel rigging caribiners Couple of rigging slings And either a flying capstain( whoopie sling required) or a bollard. That'll cover most situations! Rigging kit is like climbing kit, the more you do the greater the amount of kit Steve
  5. My cabstar has Goodyear wranglers I think, they aren't exactly simular in size to the originals though, being 31" tall but I'm replacing them soon for smaller mud tires. Probably bf Goodrich or insa
  6. I haven't no, only managed to think about doing it as something popped up, but hopefully I'll have a go next week in a evening I've seen a few running on YouTube, they seem to have loads of torque can't wait to have her going so I can have a play. Do you run yours on big bars? Say 36"? Does it pull it well? Steve
  7. Let's start with where abouts are you?
  8. What's the load rating on the tyres? Simply find some all terrains in the same size or similar, and make sure that the load rating matches. I've got some all terrains on my cabstar, definitely help
  9. I'll give that a go in the morning, thanks for the tip.i hope she roars! Steve
  10. This could make a great thread arbtalkers grannies and big saws
  11. I've been doing up a 394xp that I got in a auction job lot, can't wait to have her running a 36" bar Ive rebuilt the carb and fitted new gaskets and fuel lines but i can't get her running. The replacement fuel line is transparent and there's a air bubble just before it meets the carb. I've tried pouring fuel in the carb to remove the bubble, but then after I've put her back together, tried starting her it's back to square one, very annoying. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance Steve
  12. The quickest climbers aren't alway the best. I aim to get to the top as quick as possible, drop big bits when & where I can, and to be as safe as possible.
  13. I state in the quote that any arisings are my property and responsibility to dispose of from site, ticks a box
  14. I've used solid nose bars on a 880 before, definitely seemed to sap power, and getting the righ chain tent ion wasn't easy. I've found some 50" cannon bars, for less than £300 imported so I, considering these, are the better quality than other offerings? Stihl etc?
  15. How much rope can they hold of 11mm?
  16. Mines a f23, and I think it does legally tow 1.7t, but I wouldn't want to, mines a 2.5d, so lacks power
  17. I've got a old nissan cabstar, read somewhere ages ago my model could carry 1.7 ton, maximum weight 3.4t, but I want to get on a weigh bridge to confirm though
  18. Thanks for your reply rob, I'll have a look for them bars. I presume that the mill can be mounted right at the end as there's no sprocket to pinch? so would that mean I get a full 48" cut with a 50" bar? I have removed the felling dogs to create more room. Regards, Steve
  19. Ah I see, sounds like the answer could've no then haga!
  20. Evening all, I've been keen to start milling timber for a good while now, and this week I've finally got my old stihl 070 up and running she runs really good considering she cost me £90 and £50 of parts to get the monster running again Now I've been able to borrow a 48" alaskan mill ( though I'd like to own one before long) ,and I've had a little session/practise tonight on some scrap pieces in my yard and I'm now hooked! At the moment I have a 36" bar and chisel chain fitted, and I would like to fit a bigger setup to create larger boards and blanks. How big would you guys go with a 070? I'm sure a 50" would be fine as this saw is a wood eating monster would 60" be pushing it? Or maybe more Also, what bars do you guys recommend? Obviously money comes into it, but I'm willing to spend if I can see a profit so to speak. Looking forward to your replies, Steve
  21. Hi tom2020, is your shop still going?
  22. Buy cheap buy twice, I'd spend and get a decent bar and chain, much better in the long run
  23. I have a bar that looks very similar on my stihl 070, I'll check the serial number tomorrow and see if it matches
