  1. Locally I can think of the Beech Tree Inn at Dumgoyne, I know there's trees there, but I can't think whether any of them are beeches or not. I think there might be a beech in the car park, but don't think it's old enough to be an original beech. The building was originally opened by the railway. There's also the Oak Tree at Balmaha, which does have an impressive old oak tree by the side of it. Sorry, no pictures of either.
  2. +1 for Oregon. I've heard for ages that Oregon make Husky bars - doesn't make any difference who makes it I still prefer the Oregon branded bar to the Husky branded bar, more rounded nose I think.
  3. I think they're called resistors. Make sure you get one's that are rated for your lights though, apparently not all resistors work with all LED lights, you have to make sure they're compatible. I think having the green light flash on the dash, or a buzzer sound, to tell you the indicator lights are working is a legal requirement?
  4. Felling to the head is one of my favourite jobs - felling trees all day and no clear up. I like dismantles, big or small both have their own plus points. Challenging storm damaged trees is probably my other favourite, the stuff you've got to plan and work carefully to avoid damaging the new deck next to the greenhouse at the orphanage that's got a whopping great tree hung above it.
  5. Since the High Hedges Act came in I've been wondering how long it would take to catch up with that!

Finally got round to taking a picture of the 7910 with the Sugi bar for you Shavey:
  7. I've knocked off loads of teeth, but the rakers always seem to survive. I normally just take them down in line with the rest over the life of the chain.
  8. Can't say I've noticed any problem with the oil flowing too slowly, but it has been pretty warm lately. My can came with the winter (Canadian) oil spout as an accessory, so easy changed depending on your preference.
  9. Do you grind the rakers down on these Stubby or just leave them? I've always just left the rakers in place, but often wondered if it'd be worth grinding them off?
  10. Any existing grants Jim? Still no help with what it's worth, but all things worth thinking about.
  11. I think I can get 3L in mine, but I haven't measured. Our local dealer had 2 in, one of the boys who works for me got one, I go the other one. Haven't seen them on the shelf again Jon.
  12. Got one and love it . Tools plus stump vice and spare chain and spare starter cord fit in the wee box thing, files and plug key held well in the slots, locking spouts are great. The only thing I'd do is make the clear bit that lets you see how much fuel is left a bit bigger (wider) for ease of seeing how much is left.
  13. I'm not up to date with current prices, but is it on the open market or a private deal between you and the owner? I know a couple of years ago that "lifestyle buyers" were pushing prices up on stuff on the open market. If it's only an acre it's not going to be commercially viable so use that to talk the price down. Any signs of DNB? If it's surrounded by Christmas trees make sure you've got an access agreement in place.
  14. Page liked Robert. Enjoyed the vid. Brisbane Trees, Lime would be Tilia sp.
  15. It does with the right accelerant!
  16. Fortunately, its years since I used one, but I hated them. Slow, the wick always seemed to be either dry or dripping chemical everywhere. I just never got on with them. Plus points are they're easier to carry than a sprayer and they're not a grass hook, and less likely to damage trees than a strimmer.
  17. I heard a rumour, stress rumour, that even purpose built machines were going to need testing if used to lift anything other than wood - grab tanks onto a low-loader for example or lifting an engine out of another machine. Presumably as when doing this there are often people within the risk zone? Don't know if there's any truth in it.
  18. Saw this on Facebook, sickening. Need to remember to lock the gates behind us.
  19. Pointing out what's wrong with something, in a constructive manner, can be every bit as educational, sometimes more, as showing what is right. Pointing and laughing is different.
  20. If I could change one thing it would probably be googling "lemon party" after I read this!
  21. Here's some photo's of mine. A guy who does a bit of cutting for me sometimes welded a bit of chain to the plate and the handle of the jack on his - keeps it from getting lost or taken with the butt of tree when it goes over.
  22. That is training - doesn't matter where, how long ago, or by who - you've been trained. Training is the legal requirement - not qualifications. As far as I'm aware, anyway.
  23. Try the HSE website. They used to have one that you could download and fill in the blanks, presume its still there, but haven't checked in a while.
  24. Like many, I don't know you Sean, but all the best to you and yours.
