  1. Burnt some last night. Great deep yellow flame, lots of heat.
  2. If was the client and the contractor asked me how long it should take to do there's no way he'd get the job. I'm always a bit amazed at how pro gardeners can't price a hedge job. It's about the easiest thing to quote for, especially if the width can be cut from one side.
  3. I think we all know what I'm talking about chaps....
  4. Cherry
  5. Over the 200 years or so we've been married, the opening of windows, turning down the thermostat , leaving the back door open, not shutting doors...lighting the fire has relieved all those problems and a wry smile occurs when the good lady starts doing exactly the same.
  6. Lit ours everyday now. Once started, that's it for the missus. " it's freezing in here" its not worth arguing...
  7. But all these tiny negatives surely give way to the positives, but only for real stove lovers. If I were a retailer, would I mention all the negatives, I think I would, but in reality, all the new builds with a stove, the new installs because it's carbon neutral, saving on this and saving on that, they get used at Christmas, and because Charles is coming over. Nothing wrong with any of that of course but we all know it's a faff and if we wanted a stove installed without our knowledge, no chance. Xx
  8. One a side note, bought 50 bags of kindling today, local to me. What's the average weight of a bag if you want to sell for a fiver a piece? These are approx 3.5-4kg. Not very consistent looking I must say, but bone dry.
  9. No but the toasted sandwich one has made me starving!
  10. They won't complain when they take their kids to the MASSIVE bonfire night in November! Oh and all the balloon pollution on their wonderful daughters 21st birthday party.
  11. Top to bottom firefighting is the key, but I won't start on that....
  12. Exactly Beau. I honestly think the biggest issue is knowing how to light a fire properly. A fire lighter under a kiln dried log will emit smoke!
  13. Now we're talking. The most poignant query so far. Old treated pallets, sandstone crates which are about as harmful as they come contaminated with methyl bromide all thrown in to dry firewood. Nice
  14. Missus wanted the heating on so it had to be lit.
  15. Drove past your place today Bob, always makes me smile when I see the log goblin pile
  16. I wonder how they derived the figure of 20%, it may have come from stoves manufacturers testing their offerings with wood at that mc. It's almost certainly come from stove retailers. I'm sure they are fed up with being called back out to jobs because " my stove won't light" problems. It must be very annoying, and as a stove retailer on here once said, wet wood accounts for a huge amount of after installation problems. However, I'm still in favour of 25% being the benchmark and to be honest half the problem is the incompetence of the end user not being able to light a simple fire.
  17. I agree, 16 % is taking it too far. All modern stoves with secondary burn will happily feast on wood 25% or less, no problem at all. No smoke from the chimney, clear glass, lovely flame pattern, job done.
  18. Sounds like you are in a win win situation.
  19. If that price works for you then great. Bottom line is you have to charge depending on what you need to make. If you can walk away happy at £70 a cube then good for you. It's the same as the supermarkets, Lidel and Aldi have a great business model and sell cheap, no frills products that are excellent value. Firewood is no different, at the end of the day it's firewood and if it's as dry as Marks and Spencer's firewood but much cheaper, what ya gonna buy?
  20. Reminds me when the government said all block paving had to be permeable. Marshall stone nearly went bust because they manufactured permeable blocks that no one bought as the policy couldn't be policed. No smoking in work vehicles is another, who polices that? There may be a situation when a "moisture enforcement officer" randomly mc.'s the firewood you are selling but that's no big deal. Imagine the inflated prices of imported wood if it does happen. I can also see dozens of homemade kilns flying up everywhere. Makes you laugh really when you read that report on Draks power station
  21. Just googled that. Much much cheaper than glyphosate. Do you just spray the weed leaf as you would with glyphosate? Does it kill the roots?
  22. Grim reading indeed.
  23. Acacia constricta maybe
  24. I’d go acacia
  25. Looked at the v8 Range Rover. Are you talking about the mid 90's Vogue?
