  1. And my dog is easily the best looking on this site
  2. It also validates your insurance when swept by a pro. its an easy enough job to do by yourself but if there's a claim forget it.
  3. I use a Burley stove, needs very dry wood but by god does it put out the heat, handles a bit naff and it's worth getting the room sealing kit
  4. As said, buy off eBay, very cheap and cuts very easily indeed. Try to make a template out of the old boards as the fit together in a clever way to hold each other in place. Top board usually holds everything in place
  5. Just to add, I've just lit ours, takes the morning chill off...
  6. Or pass on lots of work to your local one and gets yours done for free.
  7. I can kill a thread in seconds....
  8. Whatever happens to the firewood market this years woods the driest I've had for a few years
  9. Yew is classed as a softwood
  10. Just because it's evergreen doesn't make it softwood. Holm oak for example, or softwood that drops its leaves like larch...
  11. Nice thought but the waste is a nightmare!
  12. Say no more, great reply.
  13. Takes a while to dry, but I’ll start with yew..
  14. Brilliant. Cheers
  15. I know I should know....but don't.
  16. Until responsible people acknowledge that soft wood is perfectly acceptable to burn domestically, then your concerns about hardwood costs will keep this forum busy.
  17. It's odd, but I have a lot of customers who like the knarly, twisted bits, dense wood that burns for ages. It's so true about the fussy ones, blimey it's going to be totally ruined in seconds and you care what it looks like! I certainly don't loose any sleep if one log is more attractive than the other but wouldn't dream of telling them that sometimes I stick 2 pins in their face....
  18. What a show that was
  19. The only thing I use yellow pages for is for testing my kitchen knife sharpness. CF50FB32-3030-4F04-BE40-68D83B362D4A.MOV
  20. The summer we've just had would have been perfect for customers to finish off the drying of the wood at home, but I think part of the service is the fact that we deliver ready to burn firewood when it's required. Selling earlier in the year doesn't suit a lot of people and I for one don't want to reduce the cost for this service. Softwood is the only way to go in my opinion, it's great stuff and predominantly all I burn at home.
  21. Firewood as main income is going to be very very tough...
  22. Do you slightly lift your chin and flare your nostrils when you walk past one...
  23. Suppose if you use the customers electric and extension leads then £500 seems ok. Keep an eye on the lead though, 200m is a lot of cable.
  24. Be interesting to know how you get on with the softwood. I'm doing the same this year, mixed in with hardwood, very dry, just need to tempt old timers who don't know how good it actually is.
