  1. Only ever had 2 rods with rollers on and the one that i used regularly the line (mono at the time as braid had not been invented then) got snagged down the side of the roller as you said above and it cost me a good fish and at the time when this happened like 40 yr ago i had just boated my biggest at 11lb then ten minuets later i am conected to a much better fish and then ting, line stuck down side of roller, totally gutted, the rods you and others have mentioned are all well up to the job, i prefare the 20/30lb rods but some of the lads i fish with are on 12/20lb rods and manage fine with them, plenty of good sport to be had out at sea just get yourself sorted out and get out there,
  2. Been using Berkley whiplash braid for about 25 years now and all ways found it very reliable, but i would not really want to use braid on a rod with a roller tip, i think that would be a problem, go and treat yourself to at least a new rod, there is some very good rods about at the moment that are both light and yet still have plenty of backbone to them,
  3. F - - - me so what is the cost of a exchange box then ? sounds as if it could be a chunk and that Holder that just sold on ebay was only about 30 from me,very nearly rang him and would of gone with pick up and trailer and a pocket full of cash, but how many machines do i need !
  4. Hi can you or would you not be better taking the box to a transmission specialist and get it totally reconned , reason why, a mate of mine took a grearbox to a specialist about 4 years ago which was out of a boat and cira around 1930 came back looking and performing as new, just a thought, as when you are seeking something that is rare it all most seems a never ending task of looking and asking, been there a time or two,
  5. I am just looking for a grab and rotator, but depending on how much you would want for your skidding grapple ? i could be interested pm me with grab dimentions and price,
  6. Hi all, i am looking for a timber grab for a project that i am working on at the moment, been looking around at several grabs from different suppliers/manufactures, the grab needs to be of a decent size as we have some big but ends of timber to move, grab needs to open up to about 1.5 mtrs and be in the 3 tonne bracket, been looking at the Riko ones and was woundering if any one has any comments about then , weather it be good or bad, a nightmare with sales crew, poor after sales service, being palmed off with bullshit or any thing else as all info would be welcomed, the grabs are not over expensive and to me they look as if they would do the job but buying from photos and the odd video along with a sales man spiel like telling you how good and robust they are when he has never used one,you know what i mean, i have seen the smaller grabs in action on the smaller county cranes and they look fine and seem to work well as a mate has one on a small crane that he has used for the last 3 years with no probs, and there was some one who posted a while back on here about a problem with a grab from Riko and if i remember right Riko where not very helpful !, Many thanks in advance for your help,
  7. wheather your missing something or not ? it is very confusing and the paper work will only get worse, i have same waste carriers licence as your self and to be very honest about this i am not going to read anything on this subject as i will only end up with my head up my arse, the only time i will worry about it is when and thats when i get pulled up about it, had waste carriers licence now about 4 years and nothing so far,,,
  8. Well if it keeps raining like it has so far this week ,you could all ways build a raft with them,
  9. There was a Dodd and Wadkin planer thicknesser and spindle moulder combination machine on flebay about 10 months ago, situated in Burnly and if i remember right planer was 20" wide, add said in good working order and used daily up to 3 months ago, buyer to remove as it is on the 3rd floor of a old mill, either dismantle and take down staircase or could be craned through double doors on 3rd floor, it made £182 which would of been just above scrap price,
  10. Very nice that Simon,
  11. you can get away with putting a lot of things through, food is one of them i have done, as a family we all ways go out for a pre christmas get to gether that includes a 3 course meal and a bar bill, my mother allways pays for it, but on the day i pay then get most of it back in beer tokens but i put it through as a christmas party for me and my subbies, all outdoor clothing goes through with me from wellies, boots, coats and over trousers, all wellies are Hunter coats Musto and boots meindl dovre, all expensive but they do the job well, i have been asked by my accountant why i need to buy a £350 Musto coat for work, i just tell her you have heating on in your office and a roof over your head,we work out in the wilds of lancashire and north yorkshire and sometimes we are 2000ft above sea leavel with no heating or shelter, so why should i not have a decent coat to work in, same with wellies and boots for the job i do i want to be comfortable at work as some of the places we get to are very remote, photo below is a great place to be on a dry day but its shit when its raining, sleeting or snowing, just about 3 mile from civalisation and no phone signal at all, and of all the time i have spent on this site i have only seen one other person up there and that was the Grouse keeper,
  12. you supprise me there, i have bought a few things there like a 660 and a blower plus bits n bats but i have never taken owt to be fixed, know a few lads who have tho and reports are very mixed, it dont seem the same place since the younger genaration took over, asked for a price on a pair of boots, got the phone call 3 wk later with price, by that time there was a new pair on my feet, its to far out for me as its near on 20 mile each way i just use Horns or Mowerpower as its now called only 2 mile down the road and i get a good service off them,
  13. are you on about the stihl/husky deeler here at barrow ?
  14. cheep skate ! and i bet you found it on the hardshoulder of the motorway,,,,,,
  15. you will buy shite thou ??????
  16. Same here i just dont see the point of HS2, and rail travel is something i have never used for the very same reason you will not use it in a hurry again, inconvenience i think they call it, last time i was on a train was back in the late 70s on a steam train on the Settle Carlisle line, and that i plan to do again either on the Flying Scotsman or the Jacobite (train used in the Harry Potter films as the Hogwarts Express) its not that long since a friend of mine went from Lancaster to Manchester on the train and had a total nightmare of a day 2 changes, then a late train, then had to wait about 2 hrs at wigan for some debris to be moved of the line, His words never again, next time i will drive and just drink coke,
  17. i havent bought owt yet as not been well, only been out the house about 10 times in the last month, had this cold/flu thing since early october and after several visits to my GP they decided to treat me pnemonia in early december so saws have been bottom of the list,
  18. buying cheapest does not always work, i tend to buy from my local dealer like 2 mile down the road, ok it may be 40-50 quid more but if saw fails and i take it in for repair it goes straight to the front of the cue that because i bought it there, a lad who works with us now and then bought a saw online and when it took to the same dealer as buy my saws from he had to wait nearly 3 wks for his saw to be repaired, so buying cheapest is not always best,
  19. Yeh but that person doing the costing has been to university and gained a TSB & a HSBC degree in mathamatics ! there is a website that accounts for these people its called Thickasfuck.com check it out,
  20. that is something like we get offered, just a massive tangled up big mess,
  21. If you want a proper game of pick up stix we cleared this in 2018 1.75 hectares of spruce windblown on some very wet ground and before any one says it, why didnt you get a harvester in, ground conditions just to wet ,
  22. Big trees are not to be messed with if your not sure on what your doing, a 5ft diameter tree can be cut down with a saw fitted with a 25" bar if you do the sequence of cuts in the right order, and if it is rotten it becomes a lot more dangerous and needs a different approach and different cuts and if it is all weight one side and different cuts again just be very careful and if your not sure employ some one who knows what they are doing, we did a job last year where we cleared 180 big beech ranging from 3ft 6" to just shy of 6ft diameter not trees to be messed with, photo below is of a tree approx 5ft cut in to 3mtr sections,
  23. Sad news that and thoughts with his family, thats the last 3 incidents i have heard about have all been north of the boarder,
  24. Yes is a kubota 40hp, dont get stuck any more than any thing else its just finding that balance of how much to load the trailer in different ground conditions, we worked a very wet site with it a couple of years ago and traveled on a brash matt on the very wet sections , we extracted just over 260 tonne in 4 wks so not that bad,
  25. been using it for 7 years now and it does very well, but dont take this the wrong way as the saying goes there is drivers and screw drivers ! one lad who works with us he could get it stuck on a wet towel but he hasent got a clue, every thing is flat out and that dont work with in forestry but many years of expierance does,
