I take it from reading the above you ae fairly young, and i get the feeling that you think you are being messed about ? I have been self employed since 1984 and seen a fair bit over the years, i have heard about every excuse thats been thought of over the years, Top and botom of it is, if you are good at what you do and get on with the job people/ other companys will be queing up for you, there seems to be a drastic shortage of good young lads coming throught at the moment, plenty that want to play on a phone all day but that dont get the job done, 2 lads i use now n then (1 climber 1 groundie ) both now in there 30s and i know if i wanted either of them or both for a couple of days it will be 2,3,4, months before i could get them, bothe of them are good hard working lads, work at it try and get in with 2 or 3 other tree teams etc and you will be never with out work, and dont be frightened of ringing some one else if you get a day cancelled, as there as been many days where we could of done with another pair of hands or two on site to help out,

is it to be sold on or for personal use ? if it is to be sold on it dont look good when you deliver logs with mould on them, personal use i would not worry about it, leave the tarp off now and dont be tempted to put it back on if it rains as it will soon dry out,
-
My thoughts are this wood has been covered for a while and the mould has started a while back, you have then taken the tarp off when the weather has picked up ? Horse chestnut is not a good firewood for a start, i tend not to bother with it much these days for the same reason you have, and if i do get some i leave it in lenghs in the building near the doors then cut n split it when moisture level has dropped a fair bit, seems to work for us,,

had a inguinial hearna about 20 years ago and i dont want another one thanks, it was hanging down in my ball sack, stood up walking about i was in constant pain, lie down and it all went and with in about 10 seconds of standing up back to a dull ache/pane, Got it done with in about 5 week, but managed to get a cancellation at a different hospital so all was good, The weeks after where not good, dont bend dont lift dont do this and dont do that, i managed 5 days doing jack shit, then i had to do something so pottered about in the garden and a bit of tidying out in the shed , Big mistake as this prolonged the recovery by a fair bit ended up having 12 wk of work and when i went back was sent home on the 3rd day and to a private doctor for a asscesment and signed off for another 6 wk, Dont mess about just get it done and if you need to go private just do it, i would not think twice about going private today given the back log with the NHS, Good luck it will be OK,

GROUNDS PERSON (ARBORIST) VACANCY
spuddog0507 replied to University of East Anglia's topic in Employment
This is what I mean spuddog, sometimes you have to look past the bare wages and look at the benefits. I work for the NHS as a maintenance joiner, the wages are crap, but the benefits more than make up for it. That dont happen in this day and age so often nowadays, its what time do i go home, how many sick days am i allowed and how much do i get a week ??, one thing i do tell the young lads who work with us is, DONT just think about today or tomorrow be thinking 2, 5, 10, 15 years down the line, seems to fall on deaf ears with most of them, then one lad who did listen and has worked out a few things is doing very well on his own and when he can afford he buys his next bit of kit, he dont invest money with the local weed dealer nor does he invest much with Fosters or Carlsberg either, -

I would think a job like that will be a walk in the park, it will have some very good benifits and i cant see it being a hard pushed job, One of the biggest F _ _ K ups i made was not applying for a groundsman job 30 yrs ago at a high school about half a mile away from me, it was not the best pay by far but there was only so much grass n hedges to cut in the week, the bloke who got it said it was the best job he had ever had , 8 - 4 mon -thurs 8-12 fri, 30 days holiday + BH sick pay and pension scheam with the option of paying extra in yourself, It is still run with a 3 man team as it was back then but the school is half as big again with new buildings, car parks and hard sports areas so today there will be even less to do, -
A few photos from the last couple of years, and dont take any notice of the date as thats all to cock, 1 pollack 12lb 4oz 2 dissgussing who we selling to today Findus or john west ? 3 cod 15lb 12oz 4 pollack 10lb 8oz 5 what we catch of the fylde coast during the warmer months tope i think it was 44lb ? part of a 12 fish haul one eve with fish from 32lb - 48lb (its a photo of a photo)

Yes i can imagine that at present, its taken near on 12 month to sort the inheritance tax side out, so now waiting for reply from HMRC then probate can be applied for, the solicetor we have says she can get probate rushed through in about 3-4 wks ? i some how dont believe this as every thing seems to take her half a life time to do, and as i said to another family member our solicetor is about as much use as a windscreen wiper on a submarine 😂😂😂

FFS you have thoughts with you, i am dealing with something very simulare to this at the moment and its a bloody big headache, We have a farm house attached barn and a fair chunk of land, i just hope yours is a bit easier than what i am dealing with, we have no Will, the house has not been lived in for seven years and its just been a nightmare so far, surley for the probate value lower the better ? and what you do need to remember the valuation is at of the day of passing, so if its in the current climate we have now timber prices are high as compared to 18 months ago, i hope you get it sorted and good luck with it,

Hardwood or softwood ? is this for a forestry opperation like clear felling it or thinning or is it a value you want for insurance purposes ?? the later would involve a bit of work calculating the volume and value,

Hi i used one for a day a couple of months back in some 20 - 30" Sycamore, and all i can say about is that i was very impressed with it, it was fitted with a 20" bar and it felt very well balanced, throttle responce was good and it seemed to deliver plenty of power, TBH i really enjoyed using it for the day and as now i am getting older it felt a bit lighter than the 461 i would use all day dropping hardwoods and the 400 did not seem that fare behind the 461 if any, infact i have considered getting rid of 2 461s and getting a 400, I dont think you will be dissapointed,,,,,

I think the price on beech saw logs may vary a little from different regions but i think £70 a tonne delivered in is very cheap, we was getting £90 a tonne roadside 2 years ago for winter felled good clean forest grown 400mm MTD in 2.5 mtr lenghs, i dont think there would be that much call for it at this time of year tho, I think a few phone calls would be well worth the effort on this subject, or if you just talking the odd log here and there out of some ones garden then £70 a tonne for it to go as a saw log is dear as 99 logs out of a 100 will contain metal of some sort and there for i would think £40-£50 tonne max,,,
-
Personally i would not be letting money be the dictator on this subject, from my own personal expierance on this over a few decades now buying saws, today i all ways buy from my local dealer as when something goes wrong with the saw it all ways gets sorted in a very reasonable time, i learnt this many moons ago when i bought a saw from away and took it to my local dealer to get it sorted under warranty and it went in the que and was near on 4 wks before it was fixed and back with me, check what parts back up is like ? Stihl and Husky should be fine but i believe Echo is not good and as for Makita i would not have a clue, buy the best saw you can and look after it and it will be fine, have you considered any thing that is used ?? as you may get a bigger saw for your money,,,,

I have usually found the marine fuel line to be a far better quality, not cheap by all means as it is silicone based but does last a lot longer than owt else, for example there is a piece outside my back door that i use when arseing about with outboards and its been kicking about outside for near on 20 years now and its still OK,,, Preston marina on the docks, Glasson marina at Glasson dock would help you out but i would think there would be some where at Skipton on the canal that would help you out, used to be a old guy at Barrowford but i think he will be long gone ? and i dont know if any one took it over, i will ask a few people,

Its all right doing that speed but you can soon end up in trouble ? been going out to sea since the 70s and learnt a bit about on the way, only every hit 2 items out there, one was a submerged chest freezer that was just below the surface and i am glad it wasnt 30 seconds earlier at a much greater speed but we had just turned back on our selfs and running back up tide to drop anchor on a bank, the second one was a partly submerged rear tractor wheel that we just rode over and this was in the river where we launch, there is a lot of debris floating around out there,
-
And another £20 a tonne on that here in the northwest, had 2 calls today for 2 small amounts of Larch and another earlier in the week,
-
We do a bit out of the fylde coast when both weather and time will allow, boat is ready to go and just need the right tide and weather and i will be out there, it dont seem to happen like it used to, i used to shoot all the way through Jan, work my arse off Feb,Mar,April and May then when the tope and smoothhounds arrived in june and the weather was right i would just go 2,3,4 times a week and go to work 2 days if i had to, then later on in the year when the Bass where hear in there hoards i used to cash in on this big time by just going and fishing either 5 hrs of the flood or ebb depending on tide hieght, happy days back then when i could make 2 wks wages in one morning,
-
a small mill near me had some Larch logs 300mm + diameter at 3.7mtr and they worked out at £138 a tonne delivered including VAT

I dont like him either ,never really watched anything with him on it over the years, and now i watch nothing with him on it, he is a total tosser as far as i am concerned, and he knows FA about countryside management ,

These Reliants are in a Probate case i am dealing with and will be for sale in the near future, and what you say did cross my mind several wks ago, as if one of them was put back on the rd and painted up yellow with the correct sign writing on it, it would be one hell of a way to addvertise your company and people do notice things like that,

There is a Robin on the net with a Cummings 6bt in it, he calls it Throbbing Robin 😂😂

I been thinking about a second car/van/pickup recently and i was looking at one the other day and i think this is very practical for what i do, i can put the rear seats down and get 3 labs in during the winter, will be ok for a few saws cheap to tax cheap to insure good on fuel cheap on tyres as it only has 3 to replace what do you all reckon, would it be ok ???? estate version or would the van be a better bet ?
