  1. No its not road registered at the moment, but there should be no problem getting it registered ,
  2. There is so many grey areas with Mogs, tractors and other odd ball trucks/tractors like this that at some point they will all be chancing it, he was just very unlucky on the day,
  3. I am down in the yard tomorrow so will get dimensions and a few photos for you,
  4. I know of several lads/companys who run unimogs and i dont think any of them are with in the law and fully legit, one lad know who runs a iner city arb buissnes got caught with his Mog after some one ran in to it and plod attended, the case is still on going 3 yrs later and the organisations involved are VOSA, DVLA Customs and excise and his insurance company so far its cost him about 25k, so i need to get this right,
  5. Dont get the bit about, but depends where you are located ?
  6. Hi all been pondering on buying a bigger truck than a Cabstar for a while now, Been thinking of a Ex MOD Leyland DAF for a while now, i have done a bit of home work and things dont look to bad for me to purchase one with working in forestry, I went to look at the one below yesterday and OK its not new or looking pretty but its solid, its very very basic with no creature comforts and it wont break any land speed records, Ok it wants work on it and a tidy up but if i get stuck in it wont take long, it has a Boughton 5.5 tonne hydraulic winch fitted with 70 mtr cable all working, truck has done 38k, its gross weight is 11600kg and tare is around 6 tonne but that can be lowered as there can be some items removed from it, thinking of fitting a crane and grab on the on the arse end, and then probably a trailer behind it at some point, So can anyone shed any light on a few issues ! and all comments will be welcome, Registeration class Taxation class insurance MOT running costs Vosa checks opporater liecence and what ever anyone can think of !!
  7. I have a small diesel tank off a newson 1 tonne high lift dumper sat there doing nothing, it will be approx 15-20ltr, i could get dimensions and some photos for you if your interested,
  8. I think in one post the phrase, i am not a cowboy was mentioned ?? I might go splitting logs tomorrow with the carving knife, just to see how it goes 😂
  9. Yep 2p more than a Marrs bar in the spar,,,,
  10. I would put a fair amount of money on that being nothing to do with the tree,,, the tree looks to be 15,16,17,18 ft at least from the brick work, as others have said have a look at where your top water goes, then think what weather we have had of late,? , this should give you your answer, it looks pretty straight forward to me ,,,
  11. If they have gone for the price above i think someone has got a bargain some where i think Dempsey was a bit nearer the mark with his 15 k ??
  12. Thats my thoughts as well regarding keeping it local, last few saws i have bought have all come from my local stihl dealer and about £30-40 more than buying on line, but when i took a older saw in for repair it was ready by dinner time the day after, and i cant knock that at all,
  13. Today a good combination of saws would be a 261 and a 462 / 500i or the new 400 which seems like a decent saw to me, i used one a couple of wk ago for a day and was quite suprised with it ran a 20" bar and ringed a 30" sycamore with it, personally i would not entertain the 362 but thats my thoughts,
  14. Dont know weather your a Husky or stihl fan ? for me its Stihl and in my opinion you cant go wrong with a 261, there nice to use, plenty of power and seem to have the balls to sort bigger timber out as well, if this is the rout you go down look after it, keep the needle bearing greased and it will last you a long time, some one is going to post that the 261s are crap but they more than likely just bought one and used it with out doing any maintainance on it, and we all know that any machinery that does not get maitained from day one it will reflect later on in its working, and we have all heard the saying, prevention is better than cure, and them words are very true,
  15. I feel you have another hair brain idea brewing here to solve transport costs ??? i can sell you a boat as Halifax has the Calder & Hebble navigation canal 😂😂
  16. There is a lot of people in this world who get paid a vast amount of money to do a job they cant do BUT they have the right piece of paper that says they can 😂😂
  17. Yes i have used them for about 4 year now but it depends what job i am doing, if its a Arb job at a domestic property its rotatec chains on as you can be sure there will be metal in the tree, its the same when i go felling trees at farms where there clearing the site to make way for a new building going upas you can be 100% sure a tree on a hedge/fence line will be full of metal in the bottom 4-5 ft, the way i see this is if i hit metal and trash the chain its £12 and not £30 for a Stihl chain, but when we are back in the woods thinning or on a clear fell its either Stihl or Oregon chains then,
  18. that thing called a Telephone wernt a bad idea and its progressed over the years, then theres another called a mobile phone which i think is brilliant, the internal combustion engine was nit a bad idea but i think thats had its day now as the best years for reliability and durabilaty have now passed, The best thing invented many years ago and they still make it today but dont seem to make enough of it and thats TIME,,,, 45 years ago a week seemed like a lifetime but today it,s a where did that week go and seems to be just getting faster as life goes on, when i was 15 i was working part time in a saw mill cutting 6x3 larch posts and rails for the fencing on what was then the brand new M55 time then seemed to drag but today it just goes so fast,,🙂🙂🙂
  19. Jesus, just spent ages reading most of the nightmare posts on this thread, and i am glad i have got what i have and thats a old 05 plate LWB Shogun 3.2ltr. £243 to insure, £320 a year to tax, knocking around 27mpg Mway work 33mpg and it pulls like a train, i think when it comes to the day when its had it i wont know what to get as i hear so many horror stories about modern vehicle,s , i feel a Donkey and cart could be on the cards for delivering logs and a Quingo for day to day use 😂
  20. As people above have said the release cut should be at 45 degrees, the photos below are the best i can find at the moment, the larch is not that big may be 16-18" the stump has been trimmed but you can see the angle on the but end, 2nd tree is a beech 30" + and may be 80-90 ft tall and was partcially up rooted but you get the general idea of the dog tooth cut ,
  21. my photos are not like yours, the deer we used to see on Lomond where very wary and if you farted they where gone, we used to see them swimming from island now and then, and the other thing we so on Lomond was kangaroos yes kangaroos, when we first so them the lad who was with me, looked at me and said did you see that, i said yes i did, but when we get home dont tell anyone we so some Kangaroos on a island on Loch Lomond, they will lock us up and chuck the key away,,, But after doing a bit of reserch there is a colony of Walaby,s on one of the islands and they where put there as a experiment after the war,
  22. I have seen white red hines when we have been on Lomond fishing, i have some photos some where, i will have a look for them and post if i can find them,
  23. This guy was one very explosive fighter and he could fight, i watched many fights with this guy but the one that stands out for me was the Hagler v lenoard in the late 80s, it was on one sat night and we was in the local pub and several people asked Kevin the landlord if he was bringing a telly down in to the bar, and with Kevin being a tight Welsh man said no, but time it got to about half 8 people started to dissapear, hence with in about 5 mins of one group of local lads going home a telly appeared, and then Fat kevin borrowed some ones bike to go and get these lads back, and if we stayed we all got a free pint, i think this was the fight which ended in a draw, Happy days them,
  24. Serial number of what ?
  25. All i can say is if you are going to use it a lot just buy the best you can, i have just bought a botex, not of wilsons but it did come from there a couple of years ago and has had very little use, the cheaper ones are cheap for a reason and i have had one or 2 over the years that have just bent and twisted and it dont pay,
