  1. FFS J £118 a tonne for Larch logs delivered in up here but all logs 300mm + i would be trying for another £15-£20 a tonne over next couple of loads if i was you J, you will not get stuck with it at the moment as timber is in very short supply, and sawn timber has taken a massive hike in price like 35% since December, i was going down M6 yesterday and so about 10 or 12 wagons loaded with sawn timber on from BSW at Carlisle,
  2. Can i ask why a 3 day course ? we have only ever done a 1 day course with +F and thats for one of the UKs major forestry companies, if you have done the course/ticket before you will only need 1 day, dont let people tell you that you need a 3 day course as there is some people out there that will just take your money off you, we do ours with a small company called Lakes first aide and obviously based in the lake district which is under an hour traveling for us, 2-3 of us go and its £70 for the day and certificate,
  3. One of my firewood customers is well in to his Kwakers, he has a dinning room, a utility room and a garage full of them and i would say he has well over 20 of them at present and his aim is before he retires is to have one of every model from every year they where produced, not be a bad investment i suppose,,
  4. And heres me thinking i was going to be looking at a 1970s motor bike with a triple set of nice All speed expansion box,es, and it turned out to be a strimmer,,🙂
  5. The main trouble he had for doing feather edge was the size of the saw, its just to big for doing feather edge at 2 mtr cut, when he did it it was only a trial, but only doing one 125mm slab at once was to time consuming for the saw as when he is doing just 10mm boards he is cutting 8 125mm slabs at once at 16ft long so there is a massive production loss doing feather edge, he has said he may work on something where he can cut several slabs at once for feather edge, he did talk about setting a multi cut up for feather once,
  6. That jig in the video is very simular to what a mate of mine made but his was not operated with hydraulics it was with 2 pieces of threaded bar and a nut gun, worked ok but was slow as he had to go and either slacken it off or tighten it up every cut, hence now he just cuts 125 x 10 mm boards for his fencing,
  7. That i would say at that age should tip what your saying no trouble at all, you say it trips out on a pressure relief valve, they can be turned up or down and set at a given pressure, it this truck has come out of a big co or council depot, it may well be turned down, as to make sure the truck was not overloaded, what ever the pay load is the valve will be set just below that, i had a very simular problem several years ago, with a spool valve on a log crane, would not lift very much at all, so bought myself a hydraulic pressure gauge and put it in back of tractor tested it there, 2000psi put the same gauge on a pipe on the trailer and 1050psi, turned the pressure relief valve up till we got to 2000psi on crane problem solved , gauge is about £10 and worth having in my eyes, i think this will be your problem, as that body when made and fitted will of been tested, and the other thing is there is a lot of the younger generation out there who have not got a clue what they are doing with stuff like this and some one could of been arseing about with the valve, but looking at your set up, it looks right to me as main lift point is forward of centre, have a look at the pressure valve first,
  8. I had a scissor lift on a cabstar and it was fine no matter how much you put on it, i dont know what truck you have ? may be a photo or 2 of the set up as, i have all ways found scissor lifts to be better than just a ram, i think i would be checking the pump pressure first as if you change to just a ram system to cure the problem you might be in a worse situation than when you started, If you cant check pump pressure just pipe your truck to another loaded truck, if it tips ok, pump is fine, if it dosent tip, pipe from other truck to your tipping gear to use the other trucks pump if this tips ok, its your pump set up, the pumps are not mega expensive and they dont last forever now a days like they used to,
  9. The MOD still have about 180 Leyland DAF t244,s with hardly any Km,s on them, they are slowly releasing them as i enquired about one, 186 kms on it been in storage on stand by since early 90s, all serviced up and ready to be go if needed, which i dont think is a bad thing as we dont want getting caught with our pants down,
  10. Is this several years ago ? as there was a few farms around here that had a lot of filter issues, after about half a dozen tanks through machine it would just start and struggle to run with loss of power, just change diesel filter and off again, not a ideal situation really, when your towing a 36ft trailer loaded with big bales,,
  11. Thats a bit like asking for your backside to be wiped 😒😒
  12. Well said but one thing i will say is i know of a car breakers that used to salvage nearly enough white diesel to run 2 recovery trucks, but he says this last 7/8 years he has seen that go less n less each year as a lot are now carrying red which will run the digger in the yard but he now says he has to buy 70% of the white diesel at the pump, its not that long since he recovered a BMW X5 that had been on its roof down a banking, driver had been cut out so roof was F - - - - D, took it back to yard and when some police came to do some checks/tests or what ever they do it was found to be 3/4 full of red, i think this is a big part of the red going and only being sold to who ever is entitled to it,
  13. Is really going to be as bad and as hard to get your hands on red diesel, i think people are reading to much in to this subject and when this happens things get twisted around and we all end up thinking more about it, then the problem just gets worst, its like asking for advise on some thing, as we get so many different answers OK some will be right, some will be not fare off the mark but then again some will be totally way off and you will just think WTF is he or she on about, one of the best statements i have read was a comment on a local FB page and some one replied to a comment with the answer , So Jane from FB who is a local Covid 19 expert and knows all about it when its only been in the UK for just less than 2 wk,
  14. I am not going to be worrying about it at all as 1) How can this be policed ? and at what cost to the economy ? 2) it will be years before it all gets sorted out 3) our government cant sort anything out at the moment 4) we all look at things in different ways, some will be panicking and some wont and my addvise would be just ride it out and it will be what it is ,, I dont think your 20ltrs in your chipper or running a skidd streer of cherry is going to make a difference, after all it does state on some gov web sites that red diesel is not for road use ? so does that mean we have to put white in to drive a agricultural tractor down the road the .gov websites are full of statments like this,,,
  15. And Tesco are one of the big supermarkets who have put the most of there smaller suppliers of veg out of buisness, One farm we shoot over used to supply tesco with milk and all the producers where asked to a meeting and tesco wanted to drop the milk price by 1 1/2p a ltr so that Tesco could build a new centeral processing plant some where around north Birmingham, hence this guy is not with Tescos now as when the 5 yr contract finished he didnt renew it along with his brother in law on another farm,
  16. very much a reality check, and wait for this, Spoke yo Neil this morning who is the main man on these farms, i asked him about the red diesel going next April, he said its not going to bother us as we could not afford to do it other wise, he said this time of year is very busy for us and the fuel bill for the nest 6 wks till every thing is either empty or ploughed and sawn will be 50-60k and then it will ease back to about 15 k for a month, then it will be back up again when we start silo, Harvesting the maize can be the worst as that can be so hit n miss with weather if its good going might cost 3k in fuel a day to harvest it for 3 days, it weather is shit we might have another 2 or 3 tractors chained to the same trailer and another pushing forager and that costs in both fuel and man hrs as he needs extra drivers , not a cheap pass time to be in at all,
  17. Was in a farm yard tonight cutting some dead trees up to go in to a boiler, when Sam rolled in with a John Deer with a 6 furrow plough, and pulled up to the diesel tank to fill up, he came across and said he had been out since just gone 6 and it would be dark when he gets back, he went back to see how his refueling was going and all i heard was loads of bad language, there is 2 6000 ltr tanks side by side that where filled up monday diner time, the one he was using was now empty, Sam has been ploughing for 2 days with a 300hp JD another lad is tanking with another 300hp JD and 4000 gallon tank, another umbilicaling, another spreading box muck to be ploughed in, various sheds being cleaned out now stock has gone out, so 6000 ltrs of fuel in 3 1/2 days = 3.8 k if they had to run on full cost fuel they would of used £7800 in the 3 1/2 days making a £4000 differenc so how much would are food have to go up ?? this is starting to look a bit different now and that 4k only equates to 3 1/2 days they have loads more to do yet like preping the seed bed drilling it, more ploughing when the Maize goes in in may, so if this is only 3 1/2 days how much will it cost in total with the other 361 1/2 days added to 3 1/2 ? and some say they wouldnt mind paying full price for diesel ?, bit of a difference tho between using 25ltrs or 12,000ltes a week, if this was past on to the end user how much would are food go up ??? i dont even want to think about it,,,
  18. Gamble its a big one as you can be doing one task for say 4 weeks and its all legal then you do something for 2hrs and thats ileagle, not only in one way but several fuel/tax/insurance/MOT/opporter licence etc and if the law followed all this up it could be quite costly in pocket, ,most of my work with this truck will be way out in the sticks, moving our own timber and some sub contract work doing secondary forwarding so i dont think things are going to be bothering me that much but i do intend to move IBC,s with it 400yd down the road to a drying kiln, but this is a unclassified road !!!
  19. Your right there wont be many mogs that comply with the laws/regulations, and the same with tractors that haul a lowloader about with a digger on it, a timber trailer loaded with timber out of some ones front garden, a tipping trailer loaded with chip its all wrong as from what i have been reading, if a tractor is used for any thing outside agriculture/forestry/horticulture it by rights should be registered and taxed as general haulage and run on white diesel, but if it was used for clearing roadside trees (under highway maintanence) it is then classed as agriculture, its all there to be read but there is some very grey areas to consider, and to be honest my head has been up my arse reading from DVLA, VOSA, and customs & excise and as i said above it the governing bodies cant all agree on a subject what chance have we got ?, Tractors are a very cheap form of transport to use running on red, free tax and cheap as chips insurance, but how many groundworks/arb teams/companies are on white diesel and taxed and registered as general haulage ? some people will disagree with what i have said but when you go in to the fine detail it is clearly stated on the .GOV websites it just takes some understanding, one thing i found is that one site states on red diesel i can only travel 80 kilometer,s 54 mile from base but then another site states 100 kilometer,s so which is right ???
  20. I have heard all sorts of different ways its going to be done, but one thing i will say is it will be complicated as with every thing else in this day and age, one way of doing it was to do away with red all together, farmers and who ever else buys red at present will have to buy white and then they claim the duty back, doing it this way as i see it will cause a massive problem as farms will become the garage forecourt, as i am sure some farmers will sell the white diesel above what they are paying for it but below pump price to make a few quid out of it, personally i will just wait to see what happens as what is said now will more than likely change several times before the time comes,
  21. We used to go in the 80/90s a fair bit, been to some good events there and i think it was about the last event we went to was a world international open event and i have a feeling it was the August bank holiday wk end as it was a 3 dayer, there was a lot of Yanks there with some pretty fast bits of kit, if i remember right fastest car was about 304mph and fastest bike was about 275mph, came home and had ringing in my ears for days afterwards but when your young and daft that dont matter,
  22. Trees over 8cm require a felling licence, and as the post above says you can take the 5 cube per calendar, have a read on the FC site about felling licences or better still get your local FC guy there and get his addvise, And for gods sake dont think that they wont know as they will, we cant do very much on the ground these days due to a very clever thing called, Google satalite view, I have just compiled a selection of satalite views starting in 2009 till present and its shocked me at what has changed in that 12 year,
  23. Nice one, it beats me why they say things like i will remove all the brash and log, they will be at it all afternoon today and hardly make a dent in it, 😂😂😂
  24. Party on Wayne 😂😂😂😂 any time after Monday suits me 😂😂😂
  25. Jura,, Its a shed load better than Grouse, Bells etc we had one in the shoot shed thats made some where around Bassenthwait in the lakes, it was supposed to be a very good Whisky but we all thought it was average run of the mill stuff,
