  1. Bright and warm and DRY in Swaledale. Just the day for working on a 45 degree slope next to a river!
  2. "Amenity" seems to be the only word used to describe why a TPO may be ATTEMPTED to be applied. Type of tree seems irrelevant.
  3. No need for an apology......my fault for not thinking. (Unless you feel sorry for my 346xp running on it!)
  4. The finest veggie cuisine in the world AND YR STILL NOT HAPPY........ Some people......
  5. With more 'brains' and other electrical tomfoolery than a space shuttle can't see much longevity without problems. Td5's are bad enough!
  6. This seems to be the side of the argument I am favouring at the mo......... (Things must be bad as I planted syc last year in a small new coppice???)
  7. PM's sent. Cheers chaps Xx
  8. It needs to have a tapered solidish end to feed through the winch....so no not really.
  9. Cheers Jon. Have rung em and they don't supply Maxiflex
  10. It was a lighthearted comment which if I'd have thought about what grows above ground on turnips would have instantly looked silly. Well my small saw is running seemingly happy on turnip oil then!
  11. I'm after a 4 or 5m length of 11.5mm maxi flex wire rope for a T516 Tirfor. Everyone seems to do them in 10m multiples. Anyone any ideas?
  12. Flipping eck......celandine leaves just appearing here!
  13. I put in false details........got a jumbled page
  14. Found it on Wiki....the series was called Harry....
  15. I presume that's a guess at the title of the 'show'? No it wasn't that ( shame as it sounds infinitely preferable to the rubbish they filmed). Elphick was a private detective in Darlington, apart from that can't remember any more?
  16. Couldn't agree more. I tend not to subscribe to that club though, just help people as a decent human should..........just hope that argument stands up in my defence! But I am insured and have a good relationship with the NFU, who tend to be a tad more robust with mickey takers.
  17. Years ago our farm was used as a location for filming an episode of a dodgy Boon/Michael Elphick spin off. At the time we kept a selection of rare breed chickens. During a filming day the great and the good were milling around our small back yard. I was talking to the location manager about our small holding etc etc when a fine male Maran strutted past. At this he exclaimed " what a magnificent cock you have". I immediately answered " well thank you very much Sir". As you can imagine much hilarity ensued......the poor chap had NO idea what he had said! Media types eh.
  18. Seriously.....if it's easy to convert its fine. If yr selling it treat as softwood. Best on stoves, as can burn fast if oxygen freely available. Dunno how easy it is to season though???
  19. If I remember correctly.... Common Name(s): White Willow Scientific Name: Salix alba Distribution: Europe and western and central Asia Tree Size: 65-100 ft (20-30 m) tall, 3-4 ft (1-1.2 m) trunk diameter Average Dried Weight: 25 lbs/ft3 (400 kg/m3) Specific Gravity (Basic, 12% MC): .34, .40 Janka Hardness: 570 lbf (2,530 N) Modulus of Rupture: 8,150 lbf/in2 (56.2 MPa) Elastic Modulus: 1,125,000 lbf/in2 (7.76 GPa) Crushing Strength: 3,900 lbf/in2 (26.9 MPa) Shrinkage: Radial: 4.2%, Tangential: 7.2%, Volumetric: 11.5%,
  20. I always try to get across to people that our woods and associated wildlife have come about/ developed BECAUSE they were a factory floor. We basically managed/decided how and where things grew. Our woods and their trees need to continue to pay their way as they have done for millennia. Difference now is global trade and record population. Is there still room for the " plant natives" argument?
