  1. You are indeed correct. I missed that. Don't know where the 13.31 comes from but below is a link to the copy I read. (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1991/54/pdfs/ukpga_19910054_en.pdf)
  2. From the Deer act 1991...... SCHEDULE 2 Prohibited firearms and ammunition Firearms 1.Any smooth-bore gun. 2.Any rifle having a calibre of less than .240 inches... 3.Any air gun, air rifle or air pistol. Ammunition 4.Any cartridge for use in a smooth-bore gun. 5.Any bullet for use in a rifle other than a...
  3. 10 Bears......totally agree. Top post
  4. Could you please enlighten us as to how you know they are releasing Lynx (as opposed to suggesting a reintroduction) and the details of how they have had human contact? You appear to know more on this than the Lynx Trust UK who only opened this to public consultation on Sunday? http://www.lynxuk.org
  5. Before any animal is reintroduced there is a lengthy consultation process with all stakeholders, with a huge amount of red tape to deal with.
  6. The minimum legal calibre of high velocity rifle which may be used for deer stalking in England is .240 inches (Deer Act 1963). The exception being Chinese water deer and muntjac which is .220 A shotgun may be used as a method of euthanising injured deer.
  7. If the Lynx have had human contact they will be imprinted and so will not survive well. This has been demonstrated in many 'releases'.
  8. Lynx are very secretive, don't like open country and would normally keep away from man/ shepherd/farmsteads.
  9. If there are too many deer, of which the common consensus is that this is the case, why the hell don't WE eat more of them and less intensively farmed chemical infused land damaging pork/lamb/beef?
  10. Couple of points re the article. We are all allowed to own guns (previous criminality excepted) and deer DO (not 'might') impact on young trees and certainly on woodland bird populations (I'm sure she knows where to find these papers) Good article though😄
  11. Flippin eck..........3 minutes is fast😄
  12. And when you are under tension, have a look round, smell the roses etc and then tighten some more. It's amazing how leaving wire to 'settle' for a minute or two will enable you to get it tighter!
  13. Well they would have been stupid to store them outside wouldn't they?😄😄😄
  14. Always wanted to meet him but sadly never did. I remember him visiting Swaledale to look at some pollard elms that has DED, but only read about it after the event. I heard the news of his death not moments after loading a couple of his books into the van for holiday reading. Made for a few poignant moments.
  15. They still make a noise when you are cutting, just not as loud.
  16. My point was that older dry stone walls are full of spaces where rabbits can hole up. We also encounter a lot of small sets beneath walls where should a ferret hole up would be impossible to dig without risking the wall. And with all due respect the amount of buns we have here at the mo are not going the be reduced by hawking. We do have chaps come with hawks and the get some rabbits, but to control numbers we would need to remove hundreds per week consistently, and that's not going to happen with ferrets or hawks.
  17. Sadly ferrets and lurchers don't work particularly well in dry stone walls, which is where a LOT of the bunnies hole up!
  18. Love the fact that the first pic of the landrover is a reversed crop of the third! No expense spared there then.
  19. Active storm cell heading straight for us
  20. Sorry couldn't resist. Hemispheres was the album.
  21. My wife has been walking into Barclays for over 20 yrs to get cash out from the Estate business account, no problems until the other day. Stroppy assistant says she can't cash cheque as 'your signature is not on the mandate'. So because of Barclays mess up we can't get cash out. Personally I would have stood there and loudly rang the police to report the bank for cashing fraudulent cheques for 20 yrs.
  22. Don't Rush into judgements like that just because there is unrest in the forest, there is trouble with the trees. For the maples want more sunlight but the oaks ignore their pleas. Plus ca change plus c'est la meme chose.....as someone once said...
  23. Birds of prey face similar outdated prejudice as the sycamore. Only education will out.
  24. Interesting paper on "blooming weeds" ......just Google 'sycamore mike Townsend' Should be the first result. (Sorry but can't seem to paste links into iPad Arbtalk app)
