  1. You've missed an opportunity there. If it was me I'd have had that palm tree on the ground whilst they're pouring my sixth pint, then invoiced them and that would pay for the holiday! Brilliant!
  2. The only way you can come here Al is if I buy your company (with Landy) and you work for me, for peanuts plus tips! Hahaha!
  3. Thanks Andrew but it's a bit far on this occasion. Glad to hear your not on my patch. Now I just need to get rid of all the other firms! Lol!
  4. I've never been able to find a tip near there and wondered if anyone knows of one. Chips or logs or both. Thanks.
  5. That's actually what I am planning to do this weekend, if I can find a suitable ring somewhere.
  6. Hi Gerr Yep, I too find the top hoop is a pain because it's too small. I saw a photo where DMc had attached a very short piece of webbing directly into the top arms and had a metal ring on top of the webbing. Thus creating exactly the same clip in point but extended by about 1.5 inches. Perfect. However, these guys all appear to have work shops and talent. The problem I have is that my 'workshop' is simply me standing next to my house with a hammer, big screw driver and shouting.
  7. After a few weeks of climbing on the BDB I can report that I love it. It is truly a masterpiece of design. To be able to climb the tree and see it sliding up the rope with no assistance from me is a dream. After a couple of hours I've found descending to be very controllable, although very jumpy when the rope is wet. I'm still finding it to be a nuisance clipping in and especially out of my chest harness but I'm finding technique improvements all the time. I'm using the BDB on Cougar Blue and leaving my Hitch Hiker on the shorter Poison HiVee for the smaller trees. Bravo Gordon (aka Surveyor)!
  8. Hi Matty What rope are you using in your HH? There are two secrets to the HH: 1. Understand fully how the HH works and refine your technique. 2: Rope & hitch cord compatability. I only have two ropes, Poison HiVee and Cougar Blue. I found the 10mm Volcano hitch cord to work well with the CB and its sublime on the PHiVee. Many others have reported the Volcano to be the best for the HH.
  9. Dave has been working for me as a freelancer for about two years and his abilities as a tree surgeon, hedge cutter & fencer are exemplary. It's hard to believe that Dave has only been at it for a relatively short time because the mature attitude and ability that he brings to the work site is that of a seasoned veteran. Also, he has global experience as a cave diver, pot-holer and ice climber, therefore his focus on team safety and rescue systems is invaluable. If you run a mediocre tree related business then don't hire Dave, he'll make you look bad.
  10. The ZigZag is smoother. The LJ is midline attachable. That's how I'd make the decision.
  11. Just get used to the disappointment and soldier on because this is life with a modern chainsaw. Many parts are made in the same factory as pet food and just moulded into shapes to fit a chainsaw! Lol!
  12. Did I mention that your R&D process won't be complete unless I've tested a pair this winter, starting tomorrow cos the forecast is very wet!
  13. I was wondering this today, whilst I was absolutely, frigging drenched!
  14. After much dithering a week ago, I chose a 550xp. I didn't consider a Stihl because of previous appalling after sales service from Stihl UK. My brand new 550xp does not start easily when warm and I suspect two weeks from now it will be behaving as poorly as my other two Husky saws. I am very annoyed by this and would have bought an Echo if they did one in the same size.
  15. There's a big difference between 2 & 3ft. I wouldn't attempt it if it was greater than 8"!
  16. Oops, buggeration! It's not Paul it's Kevin Bingham. I got the two mixed up. Sorry Kevin, you know I love your Hitch Hiker. Hahaha! I'll get my coat. 😉😉😆
  17. Cos he makes them.
  18. I expect Paul Cox has one. PC TREE on here. Lol!
  19. I lube hedge cutter blades 1-5 times a day depending upon the build of resin on them. This build up gets thicker and makes it harder for the cutters to travel past each other which puts stress on the clutch. I use WD40 because it's cheap but more importantly, like Spud said, greasing the bearings is most important.
  20. I had a guy called Roly who started with me a few years ago aged 51. He had plenty of saw experience but not in Arb. What he did have was a good work ethic, loads of common sense and really good humour. He always looked like he was working slow but was as productive as any mental youngster. All his life experience meant he did things right, first time with minimal effort. You're never too old.
  21. I'm not offended by your post. I've already laid down the facts (& my opinions) as to why the Echo doesn't fit and that explains why I've bought a 550xp. Doesn't mean I don't still feel aggravated by my other two Husky saws. I hate 'em! BTW, I also have other saws and hedge cutters and have no problems with any of them. They get used the same way and get given the same fuel and oil but don't have Auto Tune or M-Tronic. Just saying.
  22. Nice. I really like the use of the Pinto on the shoulder strap.
  23. So the gap on the KK is for a climbin rope whilst the gap in the Petzl is for a ships anchor rope.
  24. Anyway, I bought a Husky 550xp with 15" bar on Friday. Any recommendation on how to 'run it in' appreciated. Thanks Al.
