    I do lots of work at rented houses. The tenant invariably doesn't care and when they won't answer the door, I run a chainsaw flat out in front of the door until they do. No joke. And I don't wait 45 minutes. Two is my limit

    Christ, you guys are mental using 11mm ropes for ddrt climbing! It's not good for the hands, elbows, wrists etc (as you'll discover in several years).

    I'd also be wondering why the tr6 is for sale with only 500 hours clocked. The owner may be trying to dump a chipper that keeps costing him.

    The Easy Lift Harness is the best product on the market for this application, by a country mile. Very well thought out and adaptable for differing weights of tools. I've just spent two long days hedge trimming and was easily able to keep continually trimming, only stopping for fuel (& food).

    Agreed. No individual system is better than all the others. The best system to use is the one that suits the job on the day. (As long as it's a HH or BDB on a fixed rope! Haha!)

    In a side by side comparison last week (old A540 & new 45hp Forst, it proved that the engine is definitely powerful enough for the machine, coupled with the flywheel that it has.

    I wonder why they don't although you're right, when do Kubota engines fail? FYI, I've got two years on the Kubota in my Jensen and I think Greenmech do the same. 😜

    I agree Karl. Most of these things are minor and won't improve the daily productivity but the make it more user friendly, stronger and easier for a mechanic to work on. I forgot the much better mechanism for lifting and locking the hopper. A much improved belt tensioner. The bonnet is reshaped and incorporates a sort of cowl that appears to keep more dust away from the radiator. The exhaust has greater ground clearance and has a Flexi tube so it doesn't snap.

    I did a 'side by side' comparison on Monday. My old A540 against a new ST8 and we all found that the A540 grabs logs over 6" much much more easily than the Forst. Checked the Forst and everything was set up correctly. 'Twas a real surprise to us all. I bought a new A540! Oh and just to be clear, we were chipping Thuja, Cedar, Cypress, Lime and Sycamore. Once the wood was in the rollers it was fine it's just harder work to feed than the Jensen. (Jensen also has some better design improvements) Sorry. :laugh1:

    Like Rich Rule I use SRT exclusively, except for when I don't, which is probably twice a month.

    Good. Honestly, it's like night and day to use a thinner more suitable rope. An 11.7mm flows through the device more easily and whilst a 13mm rope is nice and thick to grip onto for DRT climbing, you're not gripping the rope for SRT work so the thickness is irrelevant. I've got a 37m Poison HiVee for Conifer work and some small trees although 25m long would be adequate. I've also got a 60m Cougar Blue that gets used 85% of the time although I wish i'd got a 65 or 70 meter length instead because I base anchor most of the time. A spliced eye is unnecessary for me because often after I've completed one side of the tree, I turn my Hitch Hiker around on the rope and get the groundie to swap the rope tails on the base anchor.

    As the other guys have said, get some Volcano for the hitch and Yale Poison HiVee works very well.

    I got asked to quote for cutting to ground a 6ft tall 25ft long conifer hedge. She'd had 11 quotes already and I think I could smell curry down the phone! :lol:

    So I just collected my new A540 from Arbrep Services. Someone asked about the design improvements so these are the few I can remember: Better stop bar (with buttons). Better fuel tank with gauge. External grease nipples that are connected to rollers etc with proper hydraulic hoses (not drinking straws). Much better chassis. Really excellent jockey wheel. Integrated tool box. Better reinforcement in stress areas, it appears. Two excellent bottles of South African wine. Better electrics. A nice thank you card. A very comprehensive warranty. An awesome deal too from Charles & Joanne!
