  1. Look at the SRT forum above. There is a good redirect discussion right now in the 'SRT Q&' thread. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. Try to do an Apprenticeship. There are few jobs around and an apprentice course means you're working whilst at college. Tricky thing is to find a good firm that will actually bring you on properly. Good luck mate. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. I was holding the saw whilst cutting and shifting my head around to look along the sight line. At that moment I didn't maintain pressure on the dog teeth and the saw moved away from me and out of the cut. Because my thumb was still on the throttle my rope was nicked as the saw went past it ( I was still holding the throttle a bit). These things happen in a flash don't they. Bottom line is though: If I had maintained the correct body position and weight distribution for the movement I made I would have maintained the saw pressure into the cut. It was my error but I just avoid it now anyway. I wasn't critisising you for doing it but only thought to point it out for other viewers. I have witnessed two guys doing it and one cut his leg, the other cut his dangling rope.
  4. Excellent.
  5. Very observant of you Big and good comments. The Bollard was cut into the stem and there was no stem taper. The back up sling I would normally use was a touch too short:blushing:. The back up ratchet strap was better than nothing and I actually put it on there 'cos I thought you lot would say "Tut-tut, where is your back up strap?"
  6. That's what I thought but wondered if there is something else. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. That sounds good to me. Quick, easy and very adjustable. It sounds the same as the Treemagineers Sirius ringLOOP. Am I right? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Thanks BenR. Got it now. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Snowed one inch last night, grid lock this morning! Life in Surrey. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. I do actually agree with all your points Pat. Sadly, many trees don't get managed properly and in my area there are many thousands of large trees almost entirely swamped with Ivy, soon to die. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. One question I forgot to ask, how does a Ropeknight extend throw line life? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. Ok but how do you justify it when it swamps a tree and the tree then dies? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. Yes I'd use it. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Are you mad Pat? It may not be now but it will. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. I you use a Jensen or Schleising or Quadchip, you won't buy a Timberwolf. Alternatively, wait a few more weeks for a new chipper from Raptor. I can't say anything but you'll be very surprised. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. No base tie off there mate. That was just the retrieval side of my line dangling freely so it can be thrown out the way. I only use a base tie for access or if dealing with a couple of branches then coming down again.
  17. I did ring it down from there on because the lumps could have swung around the stem and smashed the wooden building.
  18. I hope you severed the Ivy on those Poplars. Ivy is my pet hate.
  19. I did this Oak dismantle. It was quite an exciting 3 day job but a I forgot to record the exciting bits. Also, It looks good on iMovie but a bit grainy on youtube. I've put it on here to see if it still looks grainy. I don't know why it looks crap though. Perry Oak dismantle - YouTube
  20. Me too and I won't hear of any other way. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. Maybe I'm being dumb, I have created a picture in my head of this but there's no way it will work. Can anyone provide a photo of it please. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. Two Transit tipper loads. 3 if you can take it. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Where is that? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. Very important point DMc. If the tree is good an strong I just put the rope in the biner but do what you suggest when it's all a bit thin. As with all climbs, the tree dictates what we do in the moment. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
