  1. I read an account, recently too, that part of the logic of the disasterous Dippe raid, was to acquire shore based marine crypto material, and crucially this was why a later phase of the op that cost many lives(when it was clear that the simple military-force objective had failed) was proceeded with, which to the men involved was wrong headed and preverse, but "orders from above". The account based on recently declassified 30/50/80/100 year rule stuff (or whatever the various classifications are)
  2. 6o year old and somewhat cynical farmers Son that I am, I have never seen an air filter like the one portrayed above. It looks like the outer membrane or fabric degraded, or the adhesive holding it to the cage failed for whatever reason, but the fabric/membrane should still not have broken up/got sucked in. Marcus
  3. Hardly elegant mind, but nice to be able to get in and out of the car in the dry, nevermind fetching in sticks and dogfood, freezer access etc etc. A bit of a wind tunnel happenstance, but then that is better for the wood pile. All DIY, sans paperwork. cheers mth
  4. Yes, measured, and not racing, each bundle being a generous 0.5m3, tightly strapped. I must count the average no of billets per bundle next? And buy another set of crane scales to weigh the billet bundles. But obviously time "lost" setting up, and then moving the saw and conveyor periodically.
  5. See images, 15 mins to collect from the outside pile and cut to between 200mm and 300mm. Moisture readings between 12.7% (from a bundle 2nd row in and 2nd from the top and 16.9% from an outside bundle. Multiple readings taken, and gut feeling, say ave 15%, since the 16.9 was a real outlier. Cut sticks picked at random from the pile after cutting a bundle. The saw with the bigger pully runs, or "hums" sweet at about 850engine rpm, which gives about 225PTO rpm,it should require 925rpm, for 250 PTO rpm(by my calculations) but this just did not sound "right". The bundle resting on the 2 below is the right height for my back, and cutting the middle strap, but not the end straps(eased over a couple of billets to allow me to start) allow the bundle to sit without spilling onto the floor. P.S. Sitting out of an evening into night, watching the fish rise and listening to the birdsong, with an almost endless supply of Swedish Candles.(last image obv)
  6. The soil was quite compacted, as a result of levelling with the tractor land linkbox, so I raked hard, sowed seed and raked again, then rolled in with the Skoda! Some seed buried, or most? still on the surface. And another week without rain forecast! Fingers crossed.
  7. Thanks Mick, that was my feeling too, and no signs of germination yet btw. I did swither about sowing it, having seen the fine dry forecast for a week to 10 days ahead but hey! who believes the weather forecast, especially such a fine forecast! cheers mth
  8. About 400-500m2 worth, and it got a fair shower of rain that Friday evening/night, but zero moisture since, except the rather heavy dew. Question? Do I start watering, or simply leave it alone, I am timerous re starting watering, and then not watering thoroughly enough, or for long enough. Cheers, mth
  9. Robert Mugabe as a goodwill ambassador for the WHO..... sounds about as likely as Diane Abbott being touted to replace Carol Voderman as a Countdown hostess . . .
  10. IM, I may well be incorrect, but I can only imagine a suspension lift will make stability while towing worse rather than better. m

  12. Gents, The previous and longstanding NHS attitude to PPE and other medical supplies was and is unsustainable, the prolifigate use and wastage, never mind downright theft(of masks and gloves by the carton, in the early days of the pandemic) cannot be provided for. And "the usual suspects" will do their dammnest to blame the Conservatives. How about asking the multitude of "managers" to do their jobs, instead of blaming the Government, the whole thing happened in slow motion, with plenty of heads-up/warnings from the Chinese experience. BTW A Prison Officer, very recently, like last week, related to me his account of beinging in an ICU here in NI. With a prisoner/paitent. Said prisoner/patient had recovered sufficiently so as to be discharged from the ICU. The Nurse said"I'll put these 2 bottles of antibiotics to go with the paitent" What about all the rest of the bottles and stuff? asked the PO, Oh, it will all be dumped said the Nurse, along with the rest of this stuff, as she commenced clearing 2 wardrobe sized cupboards into a yellow clynical waste bag, standard procedure, this stuff could all be contaminated, So WTF was it in there? Regards, Marcus Also, from observations during my stay in hospital some 6 months ago, many staff are less than rigerous re personal hygine protocals, so the supposed lack of PPE may well be a bit of a red herring. Plus the possibility/probility staff contracted the virus outside of their work. There are many dedicated and very good NHS/nursing staff, there are also a significent number who are neither good nor dedicated, but again, what are the highly paid managers actually doing?
  13. Eggs, I agree with you, up to a point.
  14. But how many different "mahogs" are there out there?
  15. If you have a map with the deeds, it should clearly be marked up with the key diminsions from landmarks, which may or may not, still be extant. And generally the more built-up the area, the more detail/hard features were/are available to measure from. It may require some extrapolation, which is where selfish human nature enters the mix. Cheers, mth
  16. They could have perhaps rather used some of the deployed force to investigate other outstanding uninvestigated crimes, like burgularies.
  17. Speaking of waterways sayings, while growing up(and the process is still some way from completion) my father and his brother would have said sommat like "not much room to get wined in there, better reverse in", i.e. no room to get turned="wined" Then I saw a reference to "windings" being the wider stretch of water where canal boats could get turned, by "winding" them round with ropes, presumably? I this correct, and how it found its way into the Co. Londonderry farming language I have no idea. A quick search gave me; Winding hole - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  18. Our daughter is now on the 12 Hr ICU shifts, though NI is still behind the curve, and apparently the local C Exec has also informed NHS staff that it may not be so bad as feared, at least in respect of the numbers presenting here in NI.
  19. Having bought a £50.00 Parkside out of Lidl, I agree, the softgrip rubber fell off the various surfaces very quickly, and the tool, 1 of a set also bought from Lidl, broke in the chuck when I was chiseling and left the chuck impossible to dismantle. Left with zero faith in the Parkside brand, (well that and the cheap/nasty/doncy/shaky/unsatisfactory Parkside table saw I bought and returned once I had seen it out of the box). OK for boring the odd hole, but that is the height of it. mth
  20. Kevin, Indeed this was my country reared mothers method of timing eggs.
  21. At least here in Nth Co. Antrim, despite the lockdown. But I got a lawn to sow, trees to cut, a vegetable garden to grip, and more kerbs to lay, lay a concrete a base for a glass-house, nevermind a house to paint, inside and out. And then if I get bored I can start fettling any 1 of 4 of the G Wagens!. No worries!
  22. Nope, def room for another bucketful on top, if the digger can reach high enough, that is.
  23. First Swallows here, on the Nth coast of Antrim this evening, only 3 so far, but . . . And the Brown trout are feeding much more actively, saw one a clean clear foot out of the water this morning. Better than the TV, with the birdsong all around. All it needs is a beer to be absolutely perfect.
  24. My project is clearing the wind thrown Sitka from the first, now 40 year old stand, only about 1000m up the rodden at the back of the house, only for very expensive/labour intensive firewood, but fingers crossed the trees still standing will not blow down, and there will be a nicer section of more open conifer woodland for posterity. I already went through the 10 or 15 acres of Birch and "freed-up" the volunteer Oak and Beech, for the 2nd or 3rd time, from competing trees and vegetation, again simply for my current satisfaction and the future enjoyment of others. And actually started to build up a little cardio vascular stamina, for the first time in 30 years! After the fierce wind yesterday, it is absolutely glorious bright and sunny here today. Cheers all Marcus
  25. Especially for loader work, and credit to JD, they had some very clever but simple to use electronics sharing the hydraulic flow between the wheels and the loader, that prevented spinning or stalling or bogging the engine down and all while working the loader to the max effect, called Powermatch or somesuch, it certainly was very very effective.
