  1. No secret, just time, I find the picking quite theraputic mind, being essentially mindless. This year Senior Managment decreed we were going to start a bit early (she will make pectin from the greener ones) as with the quantity, they will prob be overripe by the time we are finishing. We now got 4 soild days (12th hols over here) and weather permitting this will make a big hole in the picking. SM is also pruning back hard this year, so simply filling a wheel barrow with the Lopper cut branchs and bringing them back to the table to process. This also allows us to process during showers or downpours too. In the meantime I have also picked about 50kg of Raspberries. First 21 cu ft freezer near full, and currently eying up my mothers empty freezer (also a 21 cu ft'r) Then the Blackberries and Sloes. Def must get Bees too, instead of fattening the neighbours/villagers.
  2. The other one I'll be a little more candid about the details I tink you meant "circumspect"
  3. Ma blackcurrents are:001_tt2:, that is!
  4. What is the pontential for getting the engine "chipped" (& pun intended) or re-mapped, if this is otherwise the right veh at an acceptable price. Since v common & straightforward in cars. m
  5. Not a foggy notion, but probably? about the same as Riko/Uniforests offerings. Anyway Marshalls Agric eng are the dealers. They also do Dalen and that rather attractive German built bandsawmill
  6. A tip from the Ag side, Dad and his brother pulled over some massive Ash trees when I was a boy, I remember measuring some of the stumps at 3' across. With a DB 990 or indeed a Universal 540, both light tractors. BUT Hitch a trailer on the back, loaded with 3 to 5 tonne of aggregate, connect the wire rope to the back of the trailer, pick the lowest gear in the gear box and GO! The weight of the trailer both gives the tractor wheel added traction AND prevents the rope pull from lifting the back end. Akinda "counter-intuitive" but logical. cheers M PS That tree does not look like any kind of monster to my eye. Not with 330HP tractors weighing 8 or 9 tonne out there, never mind the potential of a ballast trailer. Or even a 200/250HP one with weights front and rear thereon. Cheers M
  7. I cannot see ANY connection between road safety and towing in the 3rd/outside lane, and regardless of speed either. A car or van will cause just as much carnage as a car and trailer, or van and trailer. Accidents, 90+% are caused by driver error or inattention. Mostly by car and van drivers without trailers too (statistically) Not speed. Not mechanically defective vehicles. Not road nor weather conditions. Nor indeed trailer towing. Cause collisions/accidents. but drivers do. From someone who recalls they might have towed at 80 odd in whatever lane was available, when safe to do so. regards, Marcus Spruce Pirate, I presume to prevent the slower trailer combos holding up the traffic, no other reason.
  8. We have the "exact" same truck, year 2000 (ish) A syncro, proper oddball on the UK markey way back then if I recall, and I think it was actually an import? A very useful, low geared tow vehicle, and despite being proper scruffy, popular with all staff. The clutch has never been an issue despite towing regularly. m
  9. Withams are currently selling off surplus "Combat Engineer Tractor", fully amphibious, on tracks, with a clamshell bucket and high capacity winch. They have unfortunately already removed the 2" rocket that fired the anchor for the winch. Cheers M
  10. JHC! Is that where that confusion arises, wtf thinks these convoluted contradictory rules/laws up. m
  11. Or perhaps rather choose to obey the rules/law where and when it is wise so to do:001_tt2:
  12. CPC= Certificate of professional competence. course could be cert of professional sillyness or was that the Monty Python crew?
  13. Nope, am not THAT silly, the cheapo white Polypropleyne ones. Which are used for fresh veg in different bag formats as far as I am aware. I got most of the sand washed out first btw. m
  14. The needless twaddle about tree surgeons needing CPC aside (they dont) Consider simply doing your "C" test. It is, I have been told, the same test/as easy as the C1 albeit in a bigger truck. So why limit yourself to 7.5 tonnes? cheers, marcus
  15. I (and not pulled/no points) cannot believe the plethora of possible combinations pertaining to different veh weights permed by the class of road and multplied by/for trailers. Surely, surely surely it should be possible to streamline these extremely confusing laws. For one thing vans up to 3.5 tonne should simply be treated exactly the same as cars. They now drive as good, with all the safety features cars have. And I would go so far as to say 7.5 tonne trucks ditto.(ie treat as a car) Treat owt over 7.5 tonne different, but allow a sensible 50 mph on A roads. marcus
  16. We ran a Camplet trailer tent when the children were young(ger) Our only problem was persuading the children to leave the various campsites, once they had found the sand pit/play area and the other children, they were set for the duration. We mostly went to France, the Municipal sites were always very pleasent, especially in those non touristy areas that were trying to build a tourist trade. cheers M
  17. I suggested using the stoner, John went one better, See; A low lying wet site where the paths always erode and get muddy.
  18. Hmmm, a good question, the wife started gardening about 5 year ago, and got carried away planting blackcurrent slips/cuttings, with about a 99% success rate, they seem to love our conditions,(acidic soil) and be immune to diseases and pests. Unlike the Whitecurrents/redcurrents(birds love them, and will need a fruit cage next year, and btw the Lidl whitecurrent plants are very good ) and Gooseberries(sawfly saw to them) And I hate to waste anything/see owt go to waste. but a good question nonetheless:lol: cheers m
  19. Ian, Funny enough, my first comment was going to be; "Just how much blood do you want to see?"
  20. I reckon with bagging the currents in sandbags (yes, seriously!) and I bagged up about 100kg tonight of already frozen ones, these sandbags fit beautifully from front to back in the chest freezer, 5 rows by 6 deep =30 by 10kg =300kg plus about another 30 or 40kg above the compressor housing. Should make a hole in the supply for a week or so, if the bloody torrential rain stops. Then might need to consider buying another 21 cube foot chest freezer. Plus I ate about 500 grammes of absolutly perfectly ripe 10mm to 15mm perfect specimens, in a bowl of greek style yoghurt. Topped by rich dark sugar. yum yum
  21. Well, as I pointed to another forum frequenter. The Krpan has the USP of very easy, almost even accidental conversion to one handed operation. Purely for owner operator use. Whether this was cunning Slovanian design or pure serindipity, I cannot say. but wile handy nonetheless. m PS Paul?( I am terrible with names) yes I can see the ce/EC Conformity issues, and yes it was quite expensive. But if importing direct for ones own use? Perhaps.
  22. (i) "Home made" Hydroformed expansion chambers, yeah, like I found a hydroformer chucked in the Skip last week. (ii) It's NOT for a boat.
  23. Bare hands! Oh God Forbid! Cos I thought one was supposed to wear gloves when handling a chain? Being new an razor sharp an all. m
