  1. Theres a few of them aswell, i get some shots on here when i get round to it. I take it your still talking about oaks ?
  2. Thanks Tony, I thought it may be a slight genetic differance but always wondered if there was more to it. We've got some great trees round here, i'll get the camera out and post some shots. Some of the Oaks in Dinefwr park, Llandeilo which is a NT property are the tallest i've ever seen. Well worth a visit Tony.
  3. Hi all, Slight derail and maybe someone can give me an answer. When i lived in the London area, nearly all the mature beech trees i worked on had quite rough bark on the stem and larger limbs. Since moving to wales i'm yet to see a beech like it. They are all smooth barked, even the real old warriors. I've showed soon local guys photo's of work carried out in London on beech trees and they were'nt 100% sure what tree it was when the photo just showed the stem or branch and nothing else (like twigs, buds or leafs). I sure that they are all 'fagus sylvatica'. Why are they so different, any idea ?
  4. Init blood.
  5. I was chewing gum, does that count !
  6. Graham has helped me out many times, orange plant get bits to me quicker than the local guys can everytime. Well worth a try.
  7. Ditto the above 2 comments, maybe the way forward with learning ?
  8. Same here frankie, used to live in Addington. Its on twitter that there going there next !Glad i'm out of there now.
  9. Had some good days fox shooting while the combine is still working, a gun at each end the row and waiting for them to come out. They sit tight untill the last minute.
  10. Mick you seem very easy with being in front of a tv camera, a real pro.
  11. My brother in law cut down a dead stem at his house in April and it still smells of sick !
  12. I use my grigri for work positioning all the time, buy one you won't be regret it. If you dont want it after trying it i'll buy it off you for what you paid for it, thats how much i know you will like it.

  13. Hi mate, Cenarth. Got an email from him yesterday saying they have got it wrong and we are ok to to carry out the works.
  14. Went to start a job for the LA this morning in a CA and the tree officer said we had to apply to the same LA to carry out the work. I thought that the LA could carry out work on their own trees within a CA without having to gain permission from themselves, if that makes sense ! Any Ideas ?
  15. Hi Simon, Just had a look through all your pictures. Fair play to you mate, real tidy outfit and good quality work. Wish there were more people as professional as yourself. Good luck for the future.
  16. Just signed up, looks good.
  17. Well done, its nice to get a few tickets under your belt. Like you said now the learning starts, I've been climbing 18 years and i'm still leaning new things.
  18. Thats bad news pal, hope their covering its loss. Remember that when the insurance make you an offer, it is that an offer and you can refuse it and they will go away and think about it. They may come back with the same offer or more. I had a chipper nicked in 2003, they offered £8700, i said no and they come back a week later and offered £9000. Worth a try as far as i'm concerned.
  19. Even if you cut the stick away from the stump as low as you can, that rootball as it is will weigh 10 ton +. I had a crane lift a oak rootball out not as big as that one and that went 9 ton. I second the idea of dig a hole and bury the rootball.
  20. Let me know when and where and i'll see if i can make it.
  21. Hi, I'll post my carb to you to try if your stuck, i'm sure i can trust a fellow arbtalker.
  22. Nice one matt, you where lucky to see them that close up. People say that there are otters in every river/stream around here but i'm still to see one myself.
  23. I could not agree with Tony more about attending one of the BS3998 seminars, i did and found it very interesting. There are a few new things in it that could trip you up and they are worth knowing. A copy of it is not cheap but its worth it in the long run, maybe chip in with 2 or 3 others and share the cost.
  24. Done a bit of lorry driving in the past. Hauling TNT parcel trailers up to the midlands from london and then back again in the evenings. Knackered climbing the next day though.
  25. Might give it a go myself if possible.
