  1. Hi mark, Have you tried mwmac, they were running a scheme called 'focus on forestry first' where you paid to register with them and then got funding for the training you need. It was money from the welsh government but I'm not 100% sure it's still running. Where are you based ?
  2. When I done the 3 day PTI course we didn't cover BS5837 at all. Treelife do a course to cover that side of things I think.
  3. Sorry to hear that Malc, had a chipper stolen myself a few years back so I know how you feel. What did they use to cut that, a gas torch ?
  4. It looks like the tree was located in a sort of raised bed area. I wonder if the soil profile has been raised over the life of the tree with that wall being built. If so, any inspection of the root collar would of been difficult.
  5. I was thinking as it had only recently been pruned I'm surprised it hadn't failed before while it had a much larger 'sail' area to catch the wind but looking at the pictures it didn't have masses of regrowth on it really.
  6. No such thing as the welsh forestry commission now. The EA, CCW and FC are all one body called natural resources wales.
  7. 'The business' is a great film. 'Rise of the foot solider' is another favourite of mine.
  8. Changed a fuel tank on a husky 555 (which appears to be exactly the same as a 550/560) that had part of the handle broken. First newer type husky tank I've changed, nice easy job to be honest.
  9. That guy is nuts !
  10. Thought I'd let people know what I found out today especially for you new type license drivers. We were working in a recycling depot and had a Jensen 750kg contractor tow along with us. Just out of interest we thought we would see how much it weighed so we pushed it onto the weighbridge and I was surprised to see 820kg flash up on the display ! I asked the guy how accurate it was and he said within 20kg's. Slightly worrying when you think your buying a sub 750kg machine ?
  11. A new one ? Where did you get that from ?
  12. I'd second that, none of the chippers available are perfect, they have all got their pros and cons. I've had a 6" machine for 10 years, done the bearings a couple times and the other usual stuff and its still going strong.
  13. The cs30 & 31 is now known as the 201,202 and 203. 5 days training and then another day allowed for assessment.
  14. I did mine with Guy a few years back. Very knowledgable & highly recommended.
  15. I tried one on demo a few weeks back, with the power pack being on your back and a lead to the saw I thought it was utter rubbish, not powerful enough for my liking either
  16. Hi slack, Nice to meet you in the flesh as well. Coed is kneeling down praying he has just cut that bit of oak the right way !
  17. It's not sweat is it ?
  18. Be good if they are available sooner, you could get into buying them and posting them over ?
  19. A good friend of mine who works at a well known husky dealer said mid October at the very earliest ?
  20. I'll be going Saturday, travelling down with coed y cardi hopefully.
  21. What's the best way to clean sap from a loggers tape, I've been thinning Sitka spruce and cutting to set lengths and its covered it crap. Thanks it advance
  22. Alloy bashlins
  23. I'd second this, best 6" machine I've ever used by far.
  24. Sorry to hear that Tim, hope your on the mend. How long you out for ?
  25. It's been said above but give the knut a try.
