  1. I am going to attempt to sell both builders bags and vented m3 bags so as to provide a comparable sized product to my competators who all seem to sell builders bags and say its a cube.
  2. The ironclad ones my wife bought me for £45 were great but didnt last log at all, the stitching failed on the fingers. I fixed them and they wore through the fingers pretty quickly after that. The Cutter are more durable but i would like another pair of the Ironclads for more general lighter work but i wont pay £45!
  3. Yeah i agree Sycamore splits really easily you can make some great square logs. I also think Ash and Beech split well.
  4. I have not had any luck selling them, 2 for £15. But everyone of my mates who have seen them have loved them. I now have to bring them with me to all parties which is probably why i dont sell many! The big one is coool... I found dead ash to be god but also damp macracarpa burnt well too! i stick some of that lighter get from B&Q in the middle and job done.
  5. I have struggled to split some Elm thats trunk was very thick and bendy, which meant the grain was all over the place. Had to cut it thin to split otherwise it laughed at my 10 ton splitter. Lime was also quite time consuming to split even though it was so easy to cross cut as it is so stringy. In my opinion once dry there is no wood thats not worth burning.
  6. I am looking for suggestions for a split charge system, as i have a large deep cycle battery at the rear of my log delivery vehicle to power a palfinger crane. Plus I also want to run work lights and a additional power into the cab for a 12v fridge i have and a charging station. Any suggestions? I have found one i like the look of on ebay for £85 which has a battery charge indicator and there are a ones that are more functional that are probably just as suitable for around £50.

  8. You dont think that calling someone an idot is a bit harsh? If you were having a bad fair enough but taking it out on people on here is not necessary.
  9. Hi All, I collected my truck from the fabricators yesterday afternoon, after a couple of hours wiring i was ready for the road. Used it today and other than the rear legs needing to be raised a bit it was superb. It is a petrol / LPG with 70k miles, i bought it as a chassis/cab and have had the rear made to my spec with the palfinger. I can get 3 m3 in bags on the back, i didnt want to widen the bed to accomodate 2 x2 as i would not have fitted down the lanes / roads i need to get down for deliveries. Size isnt everything:001_rolleyes: Just need it sign written, got a quote for no more than £200 today and the guy is based in the yard i am bagging logs so should get that done next week. So what do you think?
  10. I have found that with a 225 width tyre the axe actually gets bounced back up so it not only take the shock away from your wrists it converts the excess energy so you dont needs as much effort for the next stroke...
  11. I watched this youtube video and then made one for myself... he goes on a bit but its worth watching. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRuk_jd1f8M]YouTube - ‪Splitting Wood With A Tire‬‏[/ame]
  12. Curtain side artic covers are also dirt cheap, they make superb tarps!
  13. I am looking for a tipping back for my old hilux but the original 'buck' is rotten.
  14. Cutter Work Gloves - Home Thick leather & kevlar stitching but still with good feel so you can wear them all the time. These are the best lasting and fitting gloves i have found so far, he has them on special now too as one of his retail partners has folded so he got the stock back. I buy Medium gloves and they fit superbly, the large i find a touch to big.
  15. Any idea where she would be working? Oz is a bloody big continent and the location would make a difference.
  16. Same splitter as me
  17. Keith, How much does it cost you to make a m3 of firewood from your free wood?
  18. The older ones only have a 20lpm flow rate
  19. I think you would have to be lucky to get a petrol beaver or similar for under £500, they seem to hold thier values very well. If you do find one at that price id just buy it mate.
  20. My splitter and Power pack would cost him £1400, so i suppose he would be able to get a secondhand all in one for that money.... if he is lucky
  21. I have a IH885xl that has a 30 ishLPM and that needed to be ran at 1800rpm to get a decent speed from the 10t splitter i have. However it chewed through around 4-5L of red in an hour. I was going to build my own hydraulic pack but my mate said the JCB beaver is a good unit, so i looked into it and they do one with a lombardini diesel engine that has a flow rate of 25lpm. Building my own would have meant 60lpm was possible but the cost of the parts and time taken to build it would have meant i was looking at £800. So I spent a grand inc delivery on a 2008 one of ebay and its superb, i am now using under 1L per hour, yes the splitter is slower but its actually only taking me 5 mins more to produce a cubic meter but at the moment i think the fuel saving is more important than 5 mins. I am now also able to put it in my trailer with the splitter in the back of my hilux and go to a clients house and split logs etc. If i would have built one i wouldnt have had a load sensing throttle, hyrdaulic oil cooler, compact design or all of JCB experience.
  22. Can you not buy in the £30 trailer loads yourself? I have had a guy selling nets for £2.50 from his garden, ended up going round to buying all the nets and the wood he had not processed yet cause his back was now knackered from chopping!
  23. Have a look in the firewood directory UK directory of firewood suppliers or click the massive button/link at the top of the page ;-)
  24. Not after 5 mins i think.. weird eh
  25. I did say light mud and on fields, without the mud/snow tyres it was totally wank on even a damp field / slope! I had to pull the choke out to up the revs leave it in 1st and get out and push.. lol I have found that if i spin the wheels with the snow and mud tyres it must clear the tread which helps when its **** or bust situation.
