  1. Cutter Work Gloves - Home They are £8 a pair, i have been using them for months and they are great. They do get a bit slippy when wet but thats what happens to leather gloves when they get wet! I have worn through the fingers in a couple of pairs but not had any stitching fail. I find that the leather hardens up after a bit of wearing and once they are dirty you dont look quite so broke back mountian! yeeehaaa big boy.. Sorry dont know where that came from!
  2. Can you be more specific re the engine your after, my mates got all sorts of stuff kicking round his land.
  3. Do you have an oil boiler as well or are you just wood pellet? I am contemplating adding an eco angus wood boiler into my pressurised system running tandem with my existing oil boiler. So if i really cant be arsed i can just flip the oil jobbie on.
  4. Not keen on my offer then Mark? £4 a bag is a fair price considering i have just bought 50 1m3 bags with top flaps at £4.50 a bag.
  5. DN22, A polytunnel is just a frame and visqueen sheet, i recon your plan is a good one. I just put up a tunnel and i think the only thing missing from your plan is foam tape to go anywhere that the cover will touch the frame.
  6. That name again is Mr Plow..
  7. nice straight cuts :-)
  8. and ebay
  9. I came to the same conclusion with the lucas type swing crane. I have seen pictures of your little SJ conversion before and its inspired me to do a similar type conversion to my hilux now as the pick up back is starting to dissapear with rust! Just looking out for a suitable crane! Penny hydraulics do a good one but finding one second hand is proving hard! Penny Hydraulics - Hydraulic lifting equipment, Tail Lifts, Swing Lifts vehicle mounted cranes, Goods Lifts, Mezzanine Lifts and vehicle mounted platform lifts.
  10. LOL thats what GSHP means! cheers
  11. My stove is not linked to my heating, during the winter months i will easily burn through a quarter to a third of a cube of logs a week. Mixed hard and soft. Our oil fired boiler is also on but its not working as hard as it would be if i didnt light our stove. When the summer hits my underfloor heating etc is all turned off and if its chilly at night we light the stove, this heats our lounge and also our bedroom and bathroom. I know for sure its cheaper than turning on the oil fired boiler!
  12. Sure have, it picks up a m3 vented bag at full extension you can tell its got weight on though. But with a builders bag as in the pic it is under no stress at all. It also picked up my huge saw bench, but not at maximum extension! Its a PC1300, think its rated at 1tonne close in and 400kg at maximum reach. I looked at all the cranes on the market and decided that with anything less than full hydraulic controll i would be disspointed. So this meant i had to go for second hand as they are £7k new + installation. So for £1900 i got a 2008 crane with full hyrdaulic slew and 2 hydraulic boom extensions. I bought a chassis cab and had the drop side back made and the crane fitted at the same time, the back and crane attachement cost me £2200 including painting it all white. Positioning it at the rear means i can reverse down a clients drive and off load the bag and put it well out of the way for them. Twice recently i have been able to place the bag right next to thier log store. It makes me smile every time!
  13. yes they will be great
  14. I recon a drop side pickup with a hiab mounted on the rear is the only way to go! I am really loving mine It lifts a vented m3 bag at full extension no problems.
  15. Yeah Baz is right it took ages to load on my screen initially too which is when i was treated to the screen of fake wood, forgot about that. I have a good quality high speed ADSL as well. "come pick up your expensive small bags of wet logs that you won't be able to burn for a year or two" This made me laugh out loud. I agree with Alycidon i dont think you should bother advertising freshly cut logs by the net. By the time the log is dry enough to burn the net will have rotted! Go for the qualilty seasoned product and push the low Moisture content aspect.
  16. I am having my site done at the present and i am well used to the issues of web design. my comments on your site are as follows. 1/ 'Have a questions or would like to order? Phone 00000 etc' this colour green is making me squint to read it, this is your main information for the page and its hurting my eyes. This needs to be bolder and easier to read, I have both a HD screen and a normal screen, the HD screen its not that bad to be honest. 2/ we are a small local business for local people. not keen on this as it reminds me of the "we are a local shop for local people" comedy sketch. Plus the nature of your retail business is collections so you dont want people to think we are not local to AJR so we wont bother driving there. When in actual fact anyone buying from you is going to relaly have to make an effort to get in the car and drive to you, so what difference does an extra 10 mins make... 3/ The picture for Unseasoned fire wood is one you used on the home page, it makes me think 'lazy', get a picture of a wet looking log or something. 4/ Google check out is a good merchant services, it would look more professional than an on line form. The online form isnt actually going to take money from them then and there which is the whole point of online merchant services. I have to say i am not a fan of the fake wood slat back ground either and what is the picture of black skanky wood on the home page all about?
  17. Just checked and its £2.10 +vat inc delivery.
  18. I started out selling firewood in September last year, i worked out my production costs and what i was happy with as an hourly rate/profit and started advertising. My price was very cheap (£55 a cube), but as i had not set out my terms, ie £55 delivered to your drive etc, lots of people expected me to hump the wood to their shed etc etc. Sometimes people just dont know how lucky they are and how good a deal they are getting!! Since then I have invested heavily in my production methods and a custom made delivery vehicle, i am now working on my marketing strategy for the coming season. It might sound obvious but production costs is a great way of saving/making more money, particually fuel, to start with i was using my tractor to power my splitter. This was my biggest expense costing me the best part of a gallon of red an hour! Now i use a hydraulic power pack and use less than a litre of red an hour. For smaller stuff i am using an old bench saw, this just costs red to run, no chains, sharpening files or chain oil. For me i have started this business for quality of life and a good work - life balance, I have worked out what weekly wage i want to have and have prepared and am preparing enough logs and other products so i should easily be able to achieve this, after all if you dont have the product how can you earn what you need!! With regards to my prices I hope i have matched other firewood sellers around me, i certainly do not want to under cut anyone as price wars are only beneficial to the consumer.
  19. well said:thumbup1:
  20. Sorry Dave all the threads have merged into one in my head! lol
  21. I am paying £1.49 inc VAT for a 3kg net. But i have to buy a pallet full for that price, think there are 140 on a pallet.
  22. Scraggs, i am finding that I am picking up a lot of new clients who have just had a stove installed as rightly or wrongly they see them as a cheaper way of heating their home. I find it cheaper to light my stove than to turn on my oil boiler to run my underfloor heating, but I have made it my business to track down any fallen tree or buy in arb waste from local tree surgeons process it and sell it on. Joe public is really struggling to find any of the ledgendary 'free' wood, so soon they will either have to not light thier stove or pay the price we charge for Logs.
  23. How do you find the Eagle Dave? I have read your thread on freeing it up with a honda motor, but other than that is it lasting well? Depending on how things go in the next 3 weeks I am looking at getting one as it seems better value that buying just a saw bench. £2000 + VAT & Delivery including its own motor seems like a good price, especially as the resale values seem to remain so bloody high!
  24. Thanks Nick a picture would be great. How do you fill up your funnel? For the next load the yards owner and a good friend has suggested he fits a grab to one of his huge 360s. The grab was designed for something else but he is confident 'it'll be right'
  25. Yeah i see what your saying. cheers for the input.
