  1. So if there was 400kg of ash at20% or 400kg of laylandi at 20% which would you choose just because some one has a different opinion to you does not mean there misinformed. The old argument of all wood will burn when dry is true no arguments there yes they burn softwood on the continent no argument there but there is good firewood and not so good firewood. If some one is paying good money for a load of logs they want good firewood. I have a good name locally for selling good dry hardwood yes I am expensive but it's all premium wood. People will not buy softwood because when they have there 2k log burners there told by the manufacturer not to burn softwood.
  2. Yes they do and I will also burn larch if the hardwood is low but please don't try and tell people that laylandi is good firewood it's dirty and has hardly any calorific value. It burns well because it full of sap:001_smile:
  3. Ok explain this my farther in law is a chimney sweep he will burn any wood but it has to be dry mostly low grade softwood his chimney is full of tar. We burn hardwood ash beech syc he cleans ours once a year and gets nothing apart from a little at the end.
  4. Come on tell me where all that sap goes then that does not dry just sets and tars up the flue. When you sell cord do you mix it in. Sorry but no self respecting firewood merchant will sell it.
  5. People forget what they post! I've only been in the timber game 6 years but also would not sell laylandi only good quality hardwood no seasoning for two years when the mc is below 20% it good enough for me and my custermers.
  6. But your very first post on here said you sold lay landis which is the most dirty burning wood you can get even if bone dry it's full of glue like sap. We have about 80t a year it all goes for waste ie bonfire. I would rather have an ash log at 25% than lay landis at 17. Plus a laylandi log would turn to dust if left for two years.
  7. I know how to test for moister! Of cause it has to be split. I know a lot of log merchants in my area that sell good quality firewood that has been cut and split and seasoned in 12 months or under. How many log merchants can tie up 20k in cord for two years.
  8. I agree with your point on not many suppliers are seasoning for long enough but if you can not get all the good fire woods down to 17 18% in 12 months your doing something wrong. The only exception to this rule can be oak but this should be down to 20% in 12 months which is good enough in my book. Ash and birch can be good in 6months if kept in perfect conditions.
  9. During the summer I had a climber fill two saws a 460 and a 200 with oil in the fuel tank in realising what he did he emptied it and rinsed them both out the 200 was fine the 460 smoked like a bitch while trying to get finished. He stripped it all cleaned it all and reassembled fine. Same climber filled a 338xp with oil 3 weeks later saw in skip lad down the road.
  10. Spot on that.
  11. Fair play mate I like your style where did you get it?
  12. Just got another lot spreading it out in the hope of winning something nice and helping out charity.
  13. A traffic warden would never admit what he did for a living. All joking aside they go round in pairs in Birmingham City Center as there is so much hatred aimed at them.
  14. Remember lodging away in a caravan years ago and during winter waking up with the sleeping bag frozen to the window. Can't imagine doing it now though. The dog use to sleep on my bed when I was single but when it's a bit of a passion killer when the other half hugs you and a staffe starts growling in your ear. So we got him a friend and they sleep in the lobby with a dog flap so if they hear something they can go check it out.
  15. If it was some one in my local community I would do it for nothing anybody outside of that it's going to get expensive.
  16. Yes a great cause indeed. Sure we will smash last years total I've bought my tickets and will buy another couple of lots.
  17. More tickets me thinks would be a nice start to the new year:001_smile:
  18. Had a lorry turn up to drop off cord at the beginning of October from a different source to normal and most of it was 50mm with the rest been under 100mm told him not to unload as it would not be worth cutting it up. For it to be split in two it had to be at least 5 inch other wise it's kindling.
  19. Could not agree more.
  20. Then there was a gang pinching caravans... They would go in to town find four local junkies give them a fix take them out to a pre organised spot put them in a stolen 4x4 where they were sent to another gang who would be getting the caravan ready once they got them hooked up they were told go to a location do not stop until the police get you with a stinger. This gang was working in our area for years the caravans were goin on the ferry if Junky got as far as the ferry they got a grand if they got caught a community order or community service. What deterrent does that serve ???
  21. A couple of years ago there was a farm busted in Herefordshire and there was a bulker lorry with quads and clippers placed in it and was about to be filled with grain and then transported to Europe at the same farm a loaded firearm and other large machinery ie tractors loaders seed drills jcb all stolen locally. The guy was found guilty of multiple crimes and received a custodial sentence of 18 months out in 9. These people see jail as small risk for big returns. Go to any of the big auctions up and down the country and you will see 50% of the stuff going abroad and I bet most of the stolen stuff goes to the same destination.
  22. We have fitted flash bangs and smoke grenades to our gates and sheds if they get through the dogs at the house or the geese in the field they will get the surprise of there life's when there lost in green smoke with thunder flashes going off intermittently. Plus our neighbour is x special forces so is always on the look out for target practice.
  23. A guy I do some processing for has exactly the same machines as mine in Pto there is not a lot of diffrance at all now they have the suparo engine there a lot quiter. What is your reason for getting the pectoral over the pot mine was that I did not want to tie the tractor up running the splitter.
