  1. We have one of the above and in the first year it did 100 ton of billits with the extra wide axe on you only need to get it to go in by 100mm on a 1200mm bill it and it's split. IMO the machine is plenty quick enough and I've used a fair amount of machines stick it on full rev splitting bill it's and it will keep two blokes busy all day. Auto return on all models so axe returns to preset hight. Leader system is good for putting the axe where you want it on tricky bits. There are better machines on the market ie posch but you will pay another 1800 quid and for what a bit quicker return stroke of a second. When I upgrade I will be sticking with Thor and using. Joe Turner as they have been spot on in the past I had a slight oil leek on one of the engine seals they had it back and replaced engine with in 5 days it was back.
  2. If that's what floats his boat good on him.
  3. I always try to keep some back for reg customers as we have some loyal ones that I look after the ones that do not moan about the price and the increase in price year on year. Usually manage to last till end of February but it's going out quicker this year than ever.
  4. Is it not the guys on the tower that are with in 3m of the dish that are in danger and have micro alarms to warn them. Speaking to one of the mast guysof one of the big firms he thinks his rupture in his intestine was down to the micro waves cooking it.
  5. Why would you want to put it in bags prior to been delivered:001_smile:
  6. Let's be fair insurance firms will wriggle out of anything they can best not give them any excuses. A local firm that has its fingers in a lot of pies has changed the name of its insurance department as it was ruining there wholesome image need I say more.
  7. I am sure some one will be along to snap it up for beer tokens there is enough people looking for firewood.
  8. If it's good quality hardwood under 12inch there will be money in it if it's over size less money and if it's low grade firewood beer tokens. How much and what is it might get people interested.
  9. A criminal mastermind must of wrote that
  10. Where I am stood I can see about 30 male and female nurses of different natinalaltys and the work some long hours coping with things day in and day out. Polish British Turkish German talk to any of them and they say that there is good and bad honest and dishonest workers and work shy in there country of Origen. All country's have the same problems but the people that come to the uk are here to work so we see the best of them.
  11. I've found that I can put price up year on year by £7.50 per cube so only covering rise in cost of cord and fuel this year I am getting £110 or if they want half cubes it £60 plus delivery new log merchants popping up round us all the time buy an article load and a hp37 then realise cord is hard to get hold of and as there selling for £80 a cube there is no money in it. You could tell most log buyers that it was any type of wood and they would not know. When a new customer rings now they get a 50%hard and50% soft mix and not one has complained yet. The old boy that delivers our cord told me to aim to get out of the log game in 5 years as by his reckoning that's how much timber there is left to cut before we run out,if he is right or not I don't know but he has been spot on with other things he has told me.
  12. I knocked the idea on the head for today as I could not face it got farther in law doing delivery instead. Got it rearranged for the week one of our competitors is bringing his machine over and got 3 or 4 family who can use saws. You got nothing to feel guilty about at all mike:001_smile:
  13. Turn up 5mins early be happy respectfull don't spit or swear all the time don't be a lick ass keep your phone in your pocket it's for emergencys not checking every social networking sight every two mins. Work hard and listen to what your told treat the gear like it's your own. Most of all don't think you no it all one you got a few tickets I know blokes that have been in this game 25 years and are still learning. Ohhhh injoy yourself
  14. Wow by my calculation it's around £43 once it gets to roadside plus the profit plus the transport so £63t correct me if I am wrong:001_tongue:
  15. I know and alder is high grade firewood commanding £48 t around us . If I were to buy it standing I would be paying £8 t by the time it's got back to ours it going to of cost at least £32t
  16. Would you mind running through your profit margin as the way I worked it if you are paying for wood you are loosing money. Not been funny just interested. pm me if you want
  17. I take it you pay tax and for fuel vehicle insurance your time at £40a cube even if you were been payed to take the wood away you are not making any money. Other log sellers are trying to make money so they can reinvest some to grow year on year. We have all the people that sell for peanuts around us I am expensive but still sell out year on year.
  18. Please don't worry I know if you were closer you would lend a hand.
  19. Thanks for the offer it's much appreciated. I would not want you to travel all that way. I am sure some one local with a processor will see it. If not I am waiting for the spectrum plant I bought my processor off as they have a hire wp36. With that my wp an eagle for the small stuff plus splitter for the big stuff we should be good.
  20. Piece of string how long do you want it. Cord is like rocking horse poo let alone seasoned cord . Our guy has supplied us since we started and I've had two loads of seasoned cord and payed the same as normal. My advice is find some one local tell them you will take what ever they have to offer once you have built a bit of a business relationship ask if he has any seasoned cord. Most suppliers will save it for there good custermers who put a lot of coin there way IMO
  21. How long has the timber been down I recently had 16t and it almost filled an article it was that dry. Also what wood is it mostly?
  22. We will be taking Fred to meet some of the people from arbtalk and you will be on that list in our Devon stop for sure. Thanks Mike
  23. Thanks lads most of the lads coming can use saws really looking for another processes or a big horizontal splitter to do billits so I can get it all split in a couple of days.
  24. Must be some one that wants to earn a cOuple of days money
