  1. Anybody doing any volume if firewood is going to be producing large amounts of tailings and off cuts log boilers are perfect for getting rid of these. I've not looked in to anything but log boilers. & for 16 grand for self contained system capable of getting green beech down to single fingers in less than 3 days it's a no brained for me. Just need to get. Rid of 1.5 m3 of saw dust a day now any bright sparks got any ideas on that
  2. Nothing like risk to make you feel alive.
  3. I look back at my early working years & there's one boss that really stands out, he was by far the best bloke I worked for very fair. He would say what he wanted done in that day when it was done we either went home or worked on and got payed extra. He helped me buy my first car . But if we broke something We payed for it. Fitting pre stressed concrete panels into an building we had erected I had to cut panel end did so & left the cut off saw on the floor, ran it over payed £100 a week for 5 weeks. Then on another occasion i broke a timber eves beam reversing back in tele it was 47 quid spare on site but he still took it out my wages . Been fair to people does not cause bad feeling it just teaches respectIMO
  4. I'm afraid I think he is right in docking wages not of the first offence but the lad needs to learn. Not having his wages will make him do that.
  5. Don't worry about it people all judge you what ever you do. I gave up before the smoking ban in pubs came in. Really struggled going in the boozer with out a smoke my gaffer suggested buying 10 cigars before long I was smoking 25 to30 of them a day. When my was born I gave up and started 12 months ago after going through a stressful time now smoking 30 a day. What makes me feel more guilty it spending a year in a children's hospital with my boy seeing kids with cancer. I'm stopping for Jan 1st
  6. S chestnut
  7. Since I started smoking again it's become a lot harder to stop I've got to get on top of it Shame you can't buy will power
  8. I wander if the guys doing all the thieving sit round and argue who does the best angle grinding disk. Maybe taking in to account noise amount of spark produced.
  9. Looks like scots pine to me comparing what's in the yard
  10. Sorry lads I'm not a whiskey man so need to calm it down a bit . Don't worry rod it was given me by a client.
  11. Had another one today cheques in the boiler room it may of been but the feckin door was locked. If I had of not tipped it off I would of taken it to the next one. Done 9 loads today & took order for 16 cube got a head ache which I'm medicating with grants & lemonade
  12. Depends on the beech content but if it was 25% you would get around 3.5 cube out of it
  13. Timber and Bob are right the mulching blade is spot on and does exactly what it said on the tin!
  14. Yep hopefully first of many. But am wondering if there is any anti freeze in the tractor & how many battery's will be dead
  15. If there green when they go in they need to be vented or mould could be a problem. Some of the beech that we put in vented bags & stored in barn have gone slightly mouldy in a few bags in the middle
  16. To be fair I should point out the guy I mentioned is a land owner 10000 acres that's the bit that gets me he has huge contract with people like mcains and gets over £800k in subsidies. On the other side of that there is a local pig farmer who works 16 hours a day & gets about 70k a year and pus every penny back in to the farm we have done a lot of work there & I have total respect for him.
  17. We get one a week . Last one was Friday was going away sat morning for a few days and did not want her kids to be cold could she come down sat morning at 8am and pick a boot full up arrived at 10 and started filling a bag with tailings off the processor green larch. Told her the bags were for sale nothing elsa I'll take a boot full now and pay you mon I can put money on it there will be a problem mon morning.
  18. Change the oil in the engine and pop a plug in once a year got some grease that the bits don't stuck to for sliders mine gets used hard a lot and has not missed a beet.
  19. Did you put 3 men 1 day on your quote. I use to do this but if a 3rd man had a day off some would pull you on it. Now it's job description & price. Payment terms for us are simple for tree work it's on completion and landscaping materials + 50% of layover up front. I got caught for 3 k last year and 4800 year before don't want the hassle any more.
  20. We also started selling softwood this year the larch is really good but the scots pine has gone mouldy in the stack & it's up off the floor on bearers. All the above points are what we're finding?
  21. We cut bundles of billets with a 660 goes through no problem at all we dont tighten them up as we want air flow. Swinging cradle or cross cut saw is just to slow IMO and is the most boring thing in the world to do. Never struggled cutting dry wood with a chainsaw just go steady.
  22. Looking good rod. How much monster did you get through on the way home ? A crate ?
