  1. I want to make £200 a day before i even think about machine fuel & everything elsa . It does not play out like that all the time When I started out in this game I did not charge enough was happy to be working and earning a wage but things change and for a viable long term business you need to price accordingly. Plus firewood production is hard work I would want £275 for splitter and £375 for the processor they supply tractor for the latter.
  2. I wander if Tony Martin was given that advice??
  3. My findings are as follows for green Larch / scots pine 1 ton = 2.5cube Ash. 2.4 cube Beech 1.8 cube Sycamore 2cube Cheery 2.2 I don't no how long some of thesa species were at roadside before they were deliverd .
  4. We have recently taken on a barn as we could not keep up with demand. We season in bags and keeping them dry prior to delivery was becoming a pain. As it's not at our yard we have had to invest in another forklift a little counterbalance, it's really surprised me how good it is.
  5. Impressive bit of kit. What size pieces will it separate out.
  6. Same here blowing a hooley
  7. Woods more dense round a union put log on it's side and cut down through one end then the other. Your saw will need a dam good sharpen now:001_smile:
  8. 1m3 sat on pallets
  9. It's doable but you would not want to keep that pace day in day out. If I'm on my own I can do 28 30 bags a day. Two of you in perfect size softwood could clear 50 bags.
  10. I'm giving up logs where do I get an Xmas tree plantation
  11. Your more likely to sell smaller loads and a 900 by 900 bag is a builders bag so 2or 3 on delivery and 4 /6 on trailer . We offer multiple loads but most new customers are going for 900 x 900 which suits us as we can sell them at £95
  12. He will make more in 900 x 900 bags at a guess I would say he can get £90 each but not £180 for a 1.8 loose load
  13. Yep to get kilned saves double handling
  14. 700 cube good luck it's going to get boring.
  15. Heater matrix . Take a tub of Vaseline when you get a price
  16. Second the birch bark seems to work better in the younger bark.
  17. A 560 xp is a lot of money's worth of saw for the occasioned user. There are some good second hand saws out there with a few miles on the clock just take some finding.
  18. My pal does 3000 cube and employs 1 he fills the bags from crates by hand. Never seen an automated system.
  19. No log merchants I know kiln in bags just crates then fill bags. We use a friends kiln & am seriously considering packing in wooden crates like the ones coming in from the Baltic's.
  20. Sorry TCD I missed the down here bit.
  21. First of all I was having a playfully dig at somebody as I pointed out to sky I beg to differ I know of two forestry contractors selling seasoned beech at not much more than normal. The reason been it's starting to go over and they want rid plus there is a stockpile of cord in the south due to the amount been cut and two years of mild weather.
  22. Been known to throw the odd steak in the Forman. Can make a mean curry. Quite injoy it.
  23. Pto shafts are not my strong point now I've seen one smash it self to bits I've got a whole new respect for them.
  24. We had a guy set up doing £50 a cube another log merchant ordered 3 bags when they came they were .6 builders bags loose filled. Ended up with an ibc heaped up. The advert soon disappeared!!
