  1. Some of you might or might not approve of this one. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3Ya6z-NlDo]squirrel Launcher!!! - YouTube[/ame]
  2. Yep that's right and more susceptible to bacterial canker.
  3. % IS MECHANICAL. A tree is a living thing. you have to feel and see your way through pruning, read what the tree needs, ( use the force ) there's not a mathematical answer to pruning. if there was machines would do the work for us.
  4. Good on you like your thinking. Maybe I should of added Cytospora Canker that affects a wide range of hard wood trees including most cultivars of Ash. Not forgetting certain strains of Fire blight that also shows the same symptoms of Chalara. It's a minefield out there.
  5. With reference to Chalara in ash. If you take a look at these pictures of Nectria in apple and compare the with the chalara in ash symptoms they look very similar. Nectria in apples has been about for years and yes it can kill the trees if not controlled, and yes it can be controlled without condemning the whole tree. Nectria is more prevalent in cold and wet years, it can also depend on soil types witch intern affects the seriousness of the infection. Pictures below Chalara What does concern me is the corect ID of Chalara in the Ash canker in Ash can also look the same.
  6. So you don't instruct First aid refresher training then, You wont need it if people do their chainsaw refresher training,
  7. the calyx is wrong for Cockspur Thorn. Not Red Jade, Red Jade has a glossy darker bark with white flecks. Before you start counting seeds you must decide whether they are diploid or triploid
  8. I can help with this if you PM me your phone or contact details. We're based near Maidstone
  9. Flowering time and fruit size can vary depending on time of pruning. Flowering can be up to 8 weeks apart depending on time of pruning.
  10. It's cos we all watched Blue Peter - an old loo roll and a washing up liquid bottle, we can make anything out of nothing
  11. This is the closest I have come up with as well, but I don't think it is. Mosiac Puff Ball, Handkea utriformis is found on grass and heathland, this one was found in a Scots pine plantation. I have emailed a couple of specialists but have had no reply as yet.
  12. No bell inside. found in woodland area. genuine puffball. Surprised none of the experts have commented
  13. Spotted this one today. Yes it is a puffball, but which one? It's not spiny puffball. this one is 20cm across
  14. I'm not so sure that's canker. I have seen similar symptoms on 15 - 20 year old trees before. The cause of the problem was a member of the woodworm family, the little critters were burrowing in the sapwood area and causing the bark of the tree to give the impression of canker. Have you cut into the infected areas and found any larva about 10mm in length?
  15. I think the moisture content was to high
  16. Did someone mention fish?
  17. Hamish and Paul. Kent lads. Paul did mention the Lumbermate on Sunday. Valuable bit of timber there.
