The oak I used had been sat seasoning in length for 2 years with cracks on the ends,I used piece of thicker branch wood and cut some slices off.As mentioned one has started to crack.I've tried for ages to make rings of wood stay crack Free to work with but have no luck sadly.I put this down to lack of experince haha any good beginners books I would certainly read.

  4. Works the easy part. it's my hobbies of fighting and strength trainig that destroy me.When things hurt I like to push forward and grit my teeth and deal with the pain instead of easing off the gas and I shouldn't.Sat here icing some seriously sore quads,DOMS is a biatch
  5. wish my time was so easy, sadly i got lumbered with alot of black hip hop and grime artists.dizzee rascal, wiley, broken english and RZA from wu tang clan to name a few.Alot of cocaine and alchohol and the thuggish gang mentality led to me being stabbed bottled and even shot once in the arm.I don't miss it i miss the cash
  6. just completed the most fantastic workout ever today Ever since my tennis elbow saga i haven't trained anywhere near as hard as i wanted and i have taken far too much time off from the gym.Whenever this happens i feel my mind weakens with my body and only one thing to do is test ones true spirit via a gruelling workout.Off to the squat rack i went. loaded up 20kg a side for nice warm up for the knees did 20 reps wide squats twenty reps stiff leg dead lifts and a set of 20 rep good mornings after that the true pain and suffering came, the bar was loaded to 200kg the timer was set to 1 hour, and for an entire hour solid thru rest pause sets i squatted,my nose bled i puked and to be honest i damn near shat myself with the pain but for that entire hour i battled on with nothing but a whey protein shake some creatine powder and some water to sip to get me thru tomorrow i probably will not be able to walk but one thing is for sure my mind is back in the game! I hope this inspires some of you to go past your pain barriers and achieve the true athletic performance you are capable of. yeti
  7. Used to be on a good screw outside tree wok was head doorman for fewclubs and did few bits of personal security work. Now I'm just broke and really could use a second job of some sort.
  8. chaps sorry to derail and hi jack,I have access to absolutely naff loads of rowan, what can I make with it? I'm a complete newbie to this.I've been burnig the stuff as it was too small for firewood. If there's any use for it I would sure prefer to preserve it instead of waste it. If wish to pm me instead of litter this thread that would be awfully kind.

    Oak

Hello guys,I'm going to try make some oak coasters,I'm left a little unsure as how to and what is the best way to finish these, and best oil choice.I'm new to the finer end of wood craft, usually I'm too busy hacking and chain saw carving so any tips would be appreciated thanks in advance yeti
  10. Shame can't make it down.Could have had a side challenge see how many of you it'd take to stop me on my own haha.
  11. Ope you good lorry man,How you didn't paste the guy is beyond me!. From mechanics point of veiw all navarras that have been fixed and had the faults fixed will likely have markings on the head bolts indicatng they have been fixed(usually White or yellow marker paint). Also should be marked on dealers book somehwere.Clutches with heavy heavy loads can go quickly.Oil pickup has long way to travel to get oil to everywhere so always change with quality oil upon buying and pop new Oil filter in there. If it sounds really rattly from cold I'd walk away indicates oil starved engine at some point common problem due to said stupid pickup pipe length and wrong oil viscocity Check steering dosnt knock when parking And at full lock. There heavy on rear tires due to power.Average 23mpg on our tweaked d22 so not best economy.D22 is more agricultural inside than newer shape and rear cab space is pretty rubbish for anyne over 5ft.11.But there quick stop okey and as long as looked after should pose no hassle for you.
  12. Thanks for kind words janey, wrists are my Fave too.Basically I'm a huge horror kook,Was thinking along lines of were all a Frankenstein of emotions and different feelings. Also represeted a dark day in my life were a foolish decision with my fists nearly meant a seven year stretch.I actually felt like cutting my hands off for the trouble they had caused me over the years. Also represents the lowness I felt as a alcho, and the attempt at suicide it brought on.Also née met anyone mental enough to have similar one haha
  13. sounds very similar to our spot, was my granddads old piggery, then was for beef cattle, farming died off so set up saw milling and firewood and it stayed ever since had a 15 year lay off between having anything more than chickens on it till the firewood production came along. There may be a map on local councils website that is interactive to check orders and such, just in case you wanted to stay low key with authorities till your sure which direction your going with the land.
  14. I do believe so long as some form of livestock is kept wandering in its natural wooded habitat then your covered for it to stay as agri land.Check before starting work wether the land has any TPO orders over it as ours has blanket order over all wooded area surrounding the land
  15. got a similar sized job as this in the next coming weeks, yeti versus hundreds of spiky thorns.luurvlly
  16. get chickens loose in woods few horses in there or few cows there you go agri usage covered ha ha.I use agri land of my own, never changed usage since it was bought outright 50 year ago by my grandparents.Back then this kind of red tape piff was unheard of and i wont lay down and jump thru hoops for no good reason. So it has stayed as agri land
  17. sorry for size i wasn't sure how to downsize
  18. here is some of ours, some are due a touch up due to wear and tear
  19. I always struggle to have enough wood to supply other firewood merchants as well as cater to all my regular deliveries and have some left over to do all my nets up with. However I do prefer supplying to other merchants as less donkey work for me,id rather be the guy on top of the supply chain than the little guy at the bottom doing all the labour and running around.
  20. I do it all by hand,I do have a massive metal bin that I scoop Into the pile then just hoss it onto the van.Keeps me lean and mean, and the expense to bare minimum haha.
  21. Unless I was shifting at least a hundred a go at that price I wouldn't even bother. That's alot of cutting and splitting take out 20 odd pence for your net and it isn't worth doing selling them to domstic customers, wouldn't be nough profit. If that's a wholesale price then not to bad I'd say.
  22. scout groups would be a good way to shift a few regularly aswell if you have any
  23. Further up the lakes near me it gets all rural and countryfied I didn't shift as many up there but the ones I did shift were monster ones so charged more also usually flogged few chimnea logs at same time. It's best to watch social trends I found,Scout out the richer folk pref with a large garden and fondness for gazebo partys who are likely to hold outdoorsy wine and cheese nights etc.In rural settings I found taller slightly thicker Swedish candles proved more popular with those type people just another novelty idea to impress the buddies I guess. Country fairs are a good spot to try get a lil spot going have some log nets sat with them maybe few novelty carvings aswell. Also maybe if you have large hotels who host outdoor functions in there grounds perhaps? Facebook was my testing ground great way to check out peoples social hierachy by there photo's and usually few pics of there home and Garden on there and it's free.Another way could be to try shifting a lot to local garden centres.
  24. Just got back from the yard,Had a little experiment this year influncd by few my American contacts on facebook.I've rInged a load up and left it sat for 3month in my field on two layers of pallets, totally open to wind, rain and sun. It's now absolutly as dry as I could ever hope for it's mixed larch and pine. It is Completly greyor bone white and as light as polystyrene.Seems that just leaving it open to natures mercy totally speeds seasoning,Its had a week of on off rain storms aswell, hasn't seemed to bother it.Just some food for thought for you all.....
  25. It would help to be palletised on bottom, and I wouldn't like to say about the middle of the heap I doubt there will be much airflow getting into the middle of them logs Also keep the tarps well off the top of your piles if storing like that.I usually place a layer of pallets on top to lift tarp up I learnt the hardway on that one year,It appears the tarp trapsthe moisture in if it's just resting on top of the logs and mine went moldy as a goodness knows what.
