  1. It has been my families main income for three generations. That and along with coal but Since our grand pops passed the reigns fell to our old man who couldn't keep it up working his full time job,So along came me to pick up the reigns again.Sadly in the 8 years hiatus alot of people jumped into our grand pops shoes as for many years we were the only firewood supplier in the area. Frustrating to watch. Proffesionlism isn't the problem here I'm afraid Andy nor is it machinery or labour issue as that's all in check with a fully functioning 3 acre work yard, but if people are flogging twin axle trailer loads of dry stuff for 30 quid it's somthing I am struggling to compete with. But one by one our old customers are returning and were back taking names and heads and educating the public the benefits of quality wood and a quality service. So who knows maybe I can again in few years sit on top of the monoply haha
  2. Glad somebody else mentioned the softwoods haha. It's all we have mainly stocked since day dot.It is definatly ground depndant tho on what will take and grow best.To be fair tho as long as it's dry I couldn't give a damn
  3. Question being what's best? Best to burn, best to season best yeild for money spent? I planted mainly larch,Personally I have very little to do with hardwood asfar as firewood goes I save it to make pretty things out of lol
  4. Same man I hated mauls,I just used 6 and half pound axe.wish I could still use one for a period of time as I was faster with an axe than using splitter.
  5. Everyone up our way is tight as crabs buttocks Also massive level of unemployment, add in a few old guys wanting to top up there pension selling logs for peanuts and it equals a grim profit for us sadly.I'd love to live of firewood tho I enjoy logging and splitting
  6. Location dependant I feel,I doubt every firewood merchant togeher up here even made that kind of turn over haha.if I had to live of My year round log sales I'd be dead of starvation by now or living like a hobo. And our familys been doing it since 30's lol
  7. Until last year I split everything by hand,All I've gt now is two mangled hands and worst case tennis elbow ever in my right arm. That was doing it 7 days a week all year.As much as we like to think we are invincible we are not. If want to stay in the game for a length of time I'd stick to using machines,as all the days off with sore joints means youdont save any cash anyway doing it by hand lol

  18. Aye tis an old single cab sunroofed l200 not many left.Got a tweaked 2.8 td Shogun lump with a bigger intercooler powering it along. It's had a hard hard life.Pretty hard to get stuck tho even with a load on and tipper was homemade by previous owner as were the horrid wheel arch attempts and bonnet scoop haha.Merc badge was probably most valuable thing on it other than heated seats.Redneck thru and thru even had a nice cb radio in her
