  1. No worries, when you said local I realised. As for the bandit... you going to get fit using one of those all day!
  2. what are you getting?
  3. quite so elg.
  4. Without the cut and thrust of differing opinion this would be a rather boring forum. Can you imagine if it was all "with the greatest of respect old chap I think you'll find you are factually incorrect there" I think the mods do a decent job keeping it within the bounds of decency. When something really kicks off I often follow for the entertainment. I also click on some peoples posts purely because I like/hate or find them informative/stupid. I am now at the stage where the old chesnuts like Stihl or Husky? grate a bit but I guess there is only so much to talk about on a trade forum.
  5. Agreed; Everyone told you to run a mile and yet you went round, why?
  6. Hi Ty I have too many horror stories about french mechanics to bore you with here. i always use a bloke I know (qualified diesel fitter) for all my stuff, even though he is over an hour away.
  7. Not that is good!
  8. Well said, you will struggle to win any discussion with the those who adhere to the "noble savage" stuff. Some people are only happy when racked with some cultural guilt or other.
  9. Amazes me how big some people's cahoolies are!
  10. Whip it off, an 11th century lytchgate like that must be protected.
  11. Have you seen the prices back in the uk? ivecos, canters etc costing absolutely buttons. Very tempting!
  12. I'll admit it was a bit of a sweeping statement but imo you can thin a tree and within a season its filled up again (species dependent of course) and it very rarely meets the clients needs or hopes; Beech is a bit of an exception. Plus overthinning can produce lion tailing. I am all for what used to be call "cleaning out" which is removal of all small growth to the first fork of a branch, but that is apparently not very specific and I can understand in these days of consistency conformity and BS specs that will not wash as an approved procedure. I think that if you deadwooding a tree and you just get rid of the ugly stuff, crossing branches and whatever is in your way that's usually enough. I am not a zealot about this whole thinning thing by the way just bouncing a few ideas about.
  13. Hi Trigger;God i envy you! what a beast! i actually kept the rayco and the other day it actually did a barrel roll down a slope! broke the filter box and the control levers, spent a few quid on it plus changed all the teeth for a change. with the amount of grinding i get out here (one or so days a week) it suits my purpose, for the moment. I actually made enquiries about one a 7015 but it was just dreaming.
  14. like moths to the flame....
  15. oh yeah forgot to add the description of the majority of tree surgeons, well yes I will always try to bring the job in as quick as I can ensuring the client is happy, and I enjoy the work but i do it for the money.
  16. Ok agree broadly with most things, especially the use of "advise" instead of "educate" Thinning is a nonsense imo.
  17. Trees will always need trimming, topping, reducing, reshaping, retrenchment call it what you will, because they get too big for their location. I point you in the direction of Hama's reduction thread. Anyway where is this arboricultural nirvana where we are going? A land where there are no reductions just educated intelligent professionals telling people they are wrong to want light or not want their homes to be damaged by overgrown trees? ps; the puppets bit.............have a word with yourself.
  18. Your job, your responsibility. It is the risk you take, that's why you earn more than them. Fire them, shout at them or make them do hedging for a month, but to take money off them is wrong. (imho)

Probably a better idea:001_smile:. Especially for a lightweight grinder, cost buttons aswell.

I use some steel ifor williams for my rayco 1625, they will last forever, pricey but you only buy once.
  21. Good post, I hate all this treating the client like an idiot or "educating them"
  22. couldn't agree more, for most clients the clear up is more important. just do the job, take the money, give advice sure but in the end do as they ask, I learnt that after a while.
  23. You know I had a feeling you would, congrats!
  24. I was only having a laugh, not certain your engineering principles stand up though.
  25. You want to limit the power of a 200t? seriously? some people will only be happy when they are banned. Well I have a message for all the hi viz wearing euronits, I will give you my 200t....... when you come and take it out of my cold dead hands. (with apologies to Charlton Heston)
