  1. I wasn't going to join in the latest "moaning about money" thread but I have to agree with Pat, in spades!
  2. coronet cuts! I can see the bats eyeing it up already.
  3. Plenty of threads on here in a similar vein, I honestly think 40 might be a little too old to become a climber, plenty of other related fields where you could excel. Forestry, fencing, landscaping etc.
  4. It's a tough gig, you have my sympathies (probably better than railway work though!)
  5. Ok going back 10 to 15 yrs most climbed with one line, using the other end if needed. I use a flip line as a second line, but only started doing that 5 odd years ago, love it! especially as I am 50 this year.
  6. Agreed.
  7. I was thinking that all afternoon!
  8. In answer to the OP, everyone I have ever worked with.
  9. Early on in my "career" I had a bit of that, push, push push. I will be interested in the replies.
  10. Good job, I hope it was worth it financially.
  11. Like others have said an odd sort of ad but I enjoyed it anyway!
  12. Oh I was never going to buy one, I was thinking of putting them in some Christmas crackers. re The French, you've changed your tune! Are the majorations cutting in now? MSA=Goodfellas.
  13. Well you do the job so why worry? I mean I'm 6ft with an adonis like body and golden curls that cascade over my square muscular shoulders. A picture of primitive magnificence it's been said. I've learnt to live with it:001_smile:
  14. Bit intrigued, are you saying that fingertip to fingertip you are 5'9" and stand under 4'10"?
  15. I must admit, I do find the idea of unclipping (as some people have advocated) over a grands worth of saw and watching it possibly smash to the deck a bit bewildering.
  16. Putting a client through a chipper makes payment a bit ....well awkward.
  17. fell it
  18. Bent the bar of a 288 once when that happened on a large horizontal branch, cost me 60 quid; Match the top and bottom cuts exactly, should be ok. Mind you that's good advice about taking a little more time to shorten the branch a bit first.
  19. Seem to be crying out for climbers in Oz. I'd be out there like a shot......if I wasn't so bleeding old!
  20. I would have thought there would be plenty of light penetration anyway. Eucs don't cast a lot of shade. You will cast more shade with a heavily cut regrowth. On the other hand they do fall over a lot, which it's looks like these will do soon with that wind.
  21. He's alright is Arthur:001_smile:
  22. ok then 1 day with the plant 1200 quid, ballpark figure. (assuming it's your gear and not the clients)
  23. Yes, too tired to google, explain please.
  24. Good point.
