  1. Oh the relief when you saw the gear! Good news story.
  2. Well duh looking at the leaves! Slinks away sulkily......
  3. Need to see the leaves really but in an effort to win an ID Fastigiate Hornbeam
  4. I can say in all honesty, I think you are wrong.Had a biggish ash takedown this week pulling like a beaut through hard wood. I have had more than half a dozen stihl toppers through the years and the 201 is a worthy descendent.
  5. So you just flailed it where it stood? Not any wire in there?
  6. Safe to say Ty I won't be running short of woodchip (or softwood logs) for a long long time.
  7. Tony, have you been reading the posts from guys who started from nought? Don't try and run before you can walk! The latest spec.........honestly!
  8. Agreed, after a few years it sweeps through again. David Goss started a thread on just this. (cannot do links yet:confused1:)
  9. Well however they do it, it works! 'cos they are the only mature elms I've ever seen. (Hats off to the suits involved btw)
  10. Brighton is a different case, it is protected by The Downs. Plus there is some very clever use of dead trunks to attract the beetle then removal to burn once eggs have been laid. (or something) Hence the signs saying something like "you are entering a DED protection area or sommat on roads leading in. I
  11. The tree is going to die from DED anyway in a year or two.
  12. Ok fair enough. I always thought it did sound cheap. Like others have said maybe she was laying it on to get a better price from you.
  13. I love mine! had 020s the 200ts and this is the best. It is a bit less...... ring-a-dingy than a nice loose 200, but don't be fooled, it's plenty pokey.
  14. Nice job, nice weather, nice pics!
  15. Let's be honest Tony, your not going on your own because of credit difficulties, Monsanto, "The Man" or anything else you say, it's bottle pure and simple. Plenty of blokes on here started with less. Ps don't forget you started this thread!
  16. Don't bother, wood turners are a pita, phone you up "have you got etc" won't pay diddley!
  17. Everyone is making a lot of assumptions about the "other guy" Maybe he is just more efficient and better equipped. We are taking the OP"s word on the difficulty of the job.
  18. I think it's daft to say "not the sort of customer you want" why not? their money is as good as anybody's. Price is important to most clients (not everything though) but the difference between 800 quid and 3500 is so big of course they are going to go for the cheaper one! That's a 2 week holiday somewhere warm. 300 or 400 they might go for someone they consider more "professional" As for the OP it's the cherry picker that kills the job, I bet the other quote will use a climber. I quote on site 95% of the time. One day or two days what's to figure out? It can often lead to a "yes" straight away. Out with the diary and they're yours! Obviously on mega jobs you need to work stuff out.
  19. You only need 2500 for a Tranny etc, sell your car.
  20. All absolutely true especially the last sentence.
  21. Oh right, sorry.....what do they do?
  22. Ha Ha, good point well made:001_smile:
  23. Am I missing something:confused1: Isn't that what a Tree Surgeon does?
