  1. That is when we get smoked, but not always. So will advise as we go and maybe try it with it off then put it on to know if it does make a difference.
  2. I will guinea pig. Ordered one and will let you know how it goes. Our problem is trees nearby and sometimes hard to light and smoke comes into room. Etc.
  3. I surrender Scotsmen are really tighter than Yorkshiremen.
  4. Buy a good book or two, look up on web, ask on arbtalk. It would have to be a really good course to make worthwhile me thinks. Just don't take on mammoth jobs to start with.
  5. BBC News - Bike rider survives lorry crash after riding through red light This could've been really nasty!
  6. Here Dean enthuse over this. The nursery I work at acquired a multione hedgetrimmer this week. At current rate should trim all shelterbelt leylandii in around a day, instead of usual time of best part of a month. If anyone knows how to put video in please do, Its my first attempt:blushing: IMG_4590.mp4.mp4
  7. Im all geeked out by it, Languages, biology and insect studies, my eyes are popping out and I feel a headache coming on just thinking about. However I look forward to following Hama conquer primeval Europa. Whatever that means! Ever thought of New Zealand Tony? You would have to start all over again, maybe a sequel, get some go go gadget arm extensions and hug a Kauri!
  8. Crowders nurseries at horncastle, is they dont have they should get it through contacts.
  9. For a shed I dont see a problem, I used one of these type in a static caravan. It could get smokey though at times. Sawdust Burner to heat your workshop, greenhouse or industrial unit We burnt allsort in it but you could load up to top and it would burn for a long time, up to 8 hrs or more. Another thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/milling-forum/36802-uses-lot-unseasoned-sawdust.html In it Ian Leach mentioned a link to british hardwoods, I've just tried it and it no longer stocks the product. It was a 205ltr metal barrel that you took lid off and packed with sawdust. It burnt all day. It had a tube down the middle for airflow, which I think you take out leaving a compressed sawdust column to smoulder away.
  10. Agree with the points mentioned in the tcf video. Reduced back ache, quicker, saves chain fouling etc. I have an oregon sawhorse which is similar to the tcf. Except the locking bar is more floppy which looks to give better hold on the the top logs. Sometimes the logs can spin if light and the tcf will be more prone to spinning. Reasonable price for strength of product though. I also have a forest master sawhorse which I reckon surpasses all these in strength and takes a real heavy log. The timber croc iooks quicker to load than forest master. I have reviewed both my sawhorses in the review section.
  11. Didnt these used to be £166? now they are £249!!!!!!!
  12. Very smart. Corner strainers are New Zealand style.
  13. Planting any hedge in my personal opinion, except stock resistant hedging. Is done much closer than needed. I dare go 6ft apart, the plants only need to grow sidewards 3ft to meet and will be less starved in the long run. Will probably do this in 3 years. Laurels can reach 10ft across or more no problem. You only have to look at the gaps between the stems in established hedges to realise how plants compensate and fill the void. Its just another old textbook habit that never changes.
  14. I would of as well. Just think of the savings of if getting someone else to do and then you would of only had to redo loads of it! Using a saw will be therapy. Well done. :thumbup1:As Mike says excellent service from chainsawbars:thumbup1:
  15. Pick axe that steel drum top off and punch sides with pointy end. Or cut out with posher gear if you have it. Then you have an incinerator barrel to get rid of all her trash as well. Marriage is Teamwork.
  16. Like any kit that costs a fortune. Fantastic when working well. Scary when needing attention. I understand Deere are losing their robustness.
  17. Check symptoms against verticilium wilt. It affects the potato family as well. Sudden drying of leaves and wood becomes dead and brittle quicker than normal dieback If it is verticilium wilt. No affected plants will suceed in that place unless soil is sterilised. It can be spread by pruning tools and soil tools.
  18. Unfortunately since certain preservetives have been restricted or banned in the last 10 or so years rot is quicker and wood quality has gone down in many cases, I wouldn't bank on any lasting 10 years, especially in wet conditions. You don't mention length and don't forget vat a big difference these days. With a tractor and post knocker you would be looking at £2-£3 per meter just for erecting it. Materials costs, depend on quality you get, you need best net for pigs and probably stouter posts to rub against. You could try applying post sava sleves, you could put them on yourself. Ive no experience with them. Big bolt on here operates a boxer set up look under the post fencing page 3. This is probably a way it could be done.
  19. Agreed. Im keeping my buns for packed lunch. Seen it all before and how this ends. Hence contain my opinions on this one for now.
  20. Tip on flights> Ive flown cathay pacific which were excellent via Hong Kong. Air NZ also via HK ok but not as good cabin service I thought. Both these were 747 Jumbos. Then last time Royal Brunei was cheapest. A 737 twin engine London all the way to Auckland 32 hrs with needed fuel stops in Dubai, Brunel darsalem and Brisbane Australia. Each take off was preceded by a prayer to Allah played in Arabic over the tanoy and displayed on the screens in English and Arabic All the way the in flight info pointed towards Mecca not north or south and it seemed we took detours over interesting places such as Baghdad, Bhopal etc. No alcohol in flight. Before landing in Brunei it introduced us to the place.. Jungles, culture etc. then if caught with non prescription drugs penalty death and if any munitions even an empty bullet shell on a necklace that was dealt with accordingly. All this is fact of my 2009 experience. Just thought I'd post if anyone fancies something a little different.
  21. Reason I advised against Milford, It is such a long way round by road and you are only a month in NZ. But its worth it There is alot of other stuff you could do in the same time.
  22. Rub it why don't ter. Grrrrhh!
  23. Also depends on soil type. For example Ash fraxinus excelsior on deep loamy land will be mainly a fibrous ball of roots, on clay/rocky land it will send taproots down.
  24. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CFUQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fera.defra.gov.uk%2Fplants%2Fpublications%2Fdocuments%2Ffactsheets%2Ffireblight.pdf&ei=fpb9T4mhCqeU0QWf5d3CBw&usg=AFQjCNFNULjkQWCtYD7Lo_bUnF7QDQMjkQ It is notifiable if on commercial nurseries, I think what you have there could be wind/frost chill on tender new growth. It happens when the winter is mild then a cold snap comes suddenly. Check samples using the diagnosis in the above link.
  25. The standard ones as shown are 1000 litres = 1m3
