  1. Mine is LP(greenhouse version) Had it from new its done around 2400hours. Mostly light work. It did pull a two leg subsoiler. That cost over £4k in damage to transmission, because the diff lock is on a switch near gear levers and gets knocked in anytime when on the move. It is the stop moving, press clutch and engage type diff lock. Its now disconnected. The damage was started before the subsoiling. Also the main driveshaft that comes from the clutch sheared which happens to all brands of tractor. (But ours a P reg 1996 model not the pro version.) That cost just under £1k to do it myself in parts. It was a split in half job that cost me days. I fitted the updated beefier shaft. (Case realised the original wasnt up to it. Mine never snapped in warranty.) I think ours is a lemon/ friday afternoon special, our Case IH trained fitter finds it unbelieveable how much its failed big time. He always has other case tractors in his workshop when mines in that have done 25,000 hours and only needed replacement clutches:cursing: the difference being they the maxums and 956 types where built in Germany, the 4200 series Doncaster. Also it has always burnt oil. Muguards are rotten. But it is a compact yard tractor we have a loader on it. Also use it for fencing with a Bryce Suma 2100kg post driver. It needed another assistor ram on to lift this despite the operators manual saying it was capable and our fitter tweaking the hydraulic valve. We do plod on with it due to not being a money making enterprise. If you buy one I reckon the pro models are better, gremlins ironed out beefier back end flip up bonnet and better fuel tanks etc. Its a problem getting a decent tractor in this price bracket if your not loaded. I also have the workshop manual, It was written in a half missing dopey student style " Ooooh yeerr, I fogor that bit" After probably putting you off we plod on with ours.
  2. Welcome to the forum. Thats up to you really, air seasoned logs will burn slower giving a longer more controlled burn. Whereas dried logs will give more heat per volume but burn much quicker. If considering the environment, what energy did the kiln use to dry them? My view seasoned properly, no more than 25% moisture maximum. Its cheaper its not going to be made into furniture, which is the real use for kilns. Kiln drying is excessive. Local wood is likely to be a waste product more sustainable, better for your pocket better for local economy and environment. However source from someone who is going to stay around, not quick and cheap straight from the felling job and saturated at 40-60%
  3. I started a further reply, but this sums it up spot on. Once you have the tickets you can make proper legit progress, like driving a car once you have passed. Its there and you progress. And its there when you need it.
  4. This guy is putting the Berk in Berkshire!
  5. People extract the urine. A biomass buyer offered me £10 an hr to fell and stack. Thats tractor and saw. I never replied. If you are working 7-5. 10 hrs at £2.50 an hr thats not going to cover costs. I would want £150 a day if it was a short distance away for 8 hours. We are not riding enduro bikes around the woods for fun. Its time people factored in our health, endurance and crippled retirement to come. Otherwise you may as well be a postie, more money, less wear and tear and no overheads or assets. To buy just the saw would take 22 days of work then 4-5 for ppe trousers etc........ Result is Reply with a proper days rate and one way or other the matter will sort.
  6. Would be a big hole if you left Tony, you are one of them rare and different characters that flex the perspective of many of us to see things differently. I would suggest you hang on to you "Materials and rights" The legal bumf is there as has to be everywhere these days. Your name is next to what you say/said. Im sure those responsible for Arbtalk would be flexible in your reproduction rights etc. It brings A.T to the fore and those who contribute. To the mutual benefit of all parties. I've had reviews published to no financial gain on arbtalk. It helps others. I wouldn't particularly want to do it as a job but if I got the opportunity, it would probably be because of A.T. Elsewhere I'd have to pay an agents fee. It works both ways. I've found some members irritating and callous at times. We are all human and all different and may abuse the web as a place to vent a bad day! So I avoid confrontation. If this is it though Thank you Tony and all the best to you with your path/s in life.
  7. In a logical world they would of taken(cut) the wings off. Its not going to fly again is it, unless its a secret pentagon op. To have em in strategic places for a modified runway take off with a giant catapult.
  8. Aye saw it on BBC 1 first time round. Proof that if you don't wrap kiddies up in cotton wool they develop "Life skills" Honey hunter dude, much respect especially his ppe and equipment.
  9. You recovered already Rob? Re -evaluate how you felt 10 days ago. Im Game again though.
  10. If its the one I'm thinking it is at half a days pay upwards for grub and high society ( or wannabes ) weddings. I hope your bill was huge. I actually used to be requested to deliver the gravel there, 12 years ago when I drove a tipper truck due to my silky gravel tipping skills which required little if any raking afterwards. Never got anything extras for it
  11. Got this off logosol website maybe give you ideas.Hot tub plans.pdf

When checking ebay on your results page scroll left column select completed listings items that sold prices listed in green. Non sellers red.
  13. Apparently hardwood shavings from joinery are bad for poultry as they have finer particles that get stuck in the gizzard. Which leads to respiratory problems and infections. So I assume chunkier chip from a professional outfit with a good well maintained chipper helps.
  14. Me too couldnt thin k what Id ordered:confused1:
  15. Morse code Dean?????
  16. I was only thinking of your illness Andy the other day. Is it more settled now? Tree work is strenous if your not on top form. As for the work vs benefits lifestyle, I fortunately had an upbringing that taught me the satisfaction of work before I left school Now if I couldn't work my purpose/self esteem would go and if I couldn't channel myself,I wouldn't end up being a scumbag. But probably very depressed and not a person you would want to be around.
  17. I recollect that these gearboxes will start in top gear loaded. But that is what ruins them. I think in the past year classic tractor magazine has done subject.
  18. There is always ways to use improperly. A skip truck is hydraulically a two handed operation using a dead man type power lever which has to be held and which other function you require with the other hand. I have used my knee on the power lever, one hand on the function needed, and the other hand to operate easysheet system. Only saves a minute maybe but when the tacho is ticking and/or its raining. Time is precious. As for logsplitters they all have potential to be dangerous. Wood flips suddenly or pings in a random direction. Other things happen in the vicinity. Heart attacks etc. But if we are going to burn wood it needs reducing in size in various ways. Just do it in the safest way. Unfortunately. Despite best of intentions, some theoretical people tend to hamper beyond the necessary. And they go for those jobs that hinder the rest of us.
  19. TractorData.com David Brown 1412 tractor information Hope that helps
  20. Another time Rob I reckon some of us would pay the full cost of the items. I think its worth working these things out. Also as an incentive you could do a money off next order for those who reply with results. Giving the reward afterwards instead of upfront. Im game another time, or you could email feedback forms(low costs) to purchasers of equipment, bars chain etc. I think it would be a shame to not do this though I understand why. As for doing it at a show it only takes one person who is respected to say. The %^&% one was the best. Then the sheep follow. You would have to change the coding around for example the shiny tang on odd number testers would be brand A even number testers brand C.
  21. My bucket is 2metres wide but it should work fine at 3' 6" I just sit the oregon horse in the bucket as the logs are held up quite high in it. I have the bucket crowded. Also I don't bother too much with length as it all goes in a heap which gets turned to help dry it and unsettle any undesired residents. Some customers want 6" logs others want 14" We bag to order and keep a few bagged up in regular size. At the moment I have a pub customer that I never sell big enough lumps to! She likes em a cubic foot size n shape "because they last longer. The firewood customer is a variable creature.
  22. Timber waste is now £30 a tonne at our local waste place. It gets shredded and sold as biomass, paint metals whatever is on the wood, this is industry norm. These people are not only getting free waste disposal but free transport of site. I think many will take it. The free wood mentality is thriving. As on many posts here, tools wear and tear fuel and time, wood fuel is not free.
  23. I got pulled over for slightly trespassing a double white line in an overtaking manouvre, when the police officer asked what I'd been doing that day I said truck driving. That was it. "You should know better as a professional driver" He got his penalty notice pad out and was about to write it out when a transit driver went passed using a mobile phone, the bobby ejected me rudely and chased after the bigger prize. So since then I try my best, whatever Im driving. For some reason all truck drivers are a persecuted minority group, with alot of people.
  24. Have a look at the end pages of this thread about sawhorses http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/33895-oregon-easycut-sawhorse-review.html To give you an idea for sawhorse design, I currently use the oregon in a bucket but plan a more effective design for using with the bucket. When I get round to it.
  25. I have seen a Palax KS35 operate with a 21hp compact tractor on pto it struggled but powered it through 8inch rings on a chainsaw and 8 ton split force. Softwood that is.
