  1. I run an 84hp tractor and just use it for the loader, have sawhorse in bucket. to save picking up logs. If you are doing lots of firewood 40 cube a year I reckon processor is worth it as your fatigue will not kick in as much as with a handheld saw. But for the outlay of machinery if you are a not doing high volume, its a toy like a combine stood most of the time. I try and do 2-3 hours at a time sawing and did a 6hr stint over a week ago with a fiskars x27 having not built up gradually have suffered dead arms and sleepless nights:thumbdown: It is the eternal question that keeps cropping up.
  2. I tried Gensetsteves 4 loop idea the other day, it worked on a short run. Round here artics are delivering 22-24 half tonne bags of aggregate products to builders merchants on plain flatbeds with one strap at the back. Thats into towns and Hull our nearby city.
  3. Due to hse issues avoid screw type, they work well but split wood roughly. A sawhorse setup with multiple logs stacked is a time saver. You could out pace some processors on the cutting in to lengths, I find splitting the time consumer. I can cut 5-6 cube in 3-4 hours with sawhorses. But then its to split.
  4. Two weeks ago we did a fence in a village roadside, the ground was rock hard dry. To put gateposts in I dug a small hole filled it with water and left it for 2 hours when it finally had soaked in. Still the post bounced reluctantly in with the bryces 400kg weight. I soaked out of concern for destroying the gate post. Only this week have we started to get proper rain on a night!
  5. No trees, no work, no stress!
  6. Whoops try this MO - Issue 39 - June 2012(1).pdf
  7. www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/.../MO%20-%20Issue%2039%20-%20June%2.. Look at page 4 chart I make my situation a 1 B a prohibit. Note woodchip is included in the selection.
  8. I reckon it will be a sound seller, someone who couldn't be bothered with setting up the ebay account or working out how to use it, It won't work in their favor, if they had bought a few buy it nows and sold smaller value items 1st, it would've created more trust.
  9. 200m ouch! Miscanthus? Or another dense large grass. Trouble is you aint going to get instant without ££££££££££s. Fencing materials arent cheap either. Agri design how abouts felled conifer poles built in a log cabin style wall with posts hammered through bored holes only the top hole needs to be tidy if your bothered. Then start a hedge on one side.
  10. Will make myself but would be good to know what it looks like, try and keep looking original. Few years ago we made a head for a Turner sidesift flail hedgecutter, but we had the pattern to copy.
  11. Recently VOSA changed there interpretation of a "secure load" No longer is the weight of the goods sufficient to hold the load in place, curtainsides of trucks are just for weather protection etc. The days of the coalman with just a flatbed full of well stacked sacks are going. I always try to avoid trouble so now put a rope or ratchets over everything even if the effect is as useless as a ribbon on a present. However today I delivered 2 1/2 tonne builder type bags in a plant trailer. I used a rope and before I was half way to customer, the rope had worked its way through the wood in the bags causing them to slump and spill the logs around on the trailer. The sides of the trailer are half the height of bags. In the past Ive tied the loops to diagonally opposite corners on the trailer, the bags just twist and tilt around. The same happens with sand, wheat, etc. I load with pallet forks on a loader so the bags are shaken down when loaded. It looks like loose loads maybe my best bet, but its quicker to drag bags off and go. Some people prefer them left in bags as well.
  12. Evergreen? If not Ive planted Guelder rose , dogwood and Juneberry (non native) on the roadside where cars keep popping through hedge at my parents, but if you buy this sort of thing large size(instant) will cost. Bamboo?
  13. We have one of those pedestrian flail mowers. A Turner 30 M (inches) anyone know were we could look up parts? lacking a belt guard.
  14. Is the vario 2000 still impressive Rich Rule?
  15. I joined the club. Bought from ebay a german seller. Im impressed and did a 6 hr stint chopping. Paid for it in shoulder ache since. Moral of story is build up gradually. It was raining and logs where undercover. Good to use, Im impressed though surprised how it lost its edge in that session. How good are fiskars sharpeners? I used a file without to much trouble.
  16. To poop on the party, Im surprised at how some post driver makers have blatantly copied Jock bryces ideas which are well documented and patent protected or applied for. Also he has several industry awards to document/date these. The Rock spike system being one of them. Maybe with a bit of clever wording and navigating loopholes they get away with it. I do know Bryce have challenged imitators before.
  17. A gas bird scarer banger mounted in the woodpile with a PIR sensor to fill the pants of any would be firewood thief. Awesome!
  18. Also clarks do them they are a AT sponsor.
  19. Yes if using a post knocker use one with a post cap or other post holding device, much safer and more control. You could fabricate one for an existing knocker.
  20. A mate of mine works in a garden center, 6 days a week for busy 6 months of summer then 4 days over winter, same weekly wage. You could apply that principle to hours worked, fewer on short days and longer on longer daylight days, after all its outdoor work that really is better to see what you are doing in natural light.
  21. Probably worth lifting them and trimming roots after leaf fall to initiate fibrous root system then replant with more space if needed. Then same next year. Replant the following year in final positions. Or plant in final position now with vermin protection and water and keep weed free next season. Also start a few more seeds for replacements this autumn maybe. This is a good way if you keep up the aftercare. If you plant early after leaf fall they will grow new roots this year before the start of 2013.
  22. Check roots for tell tale signs of vine weevil the skin of the younger roots will be eaten away preventing uptake of water.
  23. Use your time to check out past threads on here, its been discussed alot, some have been gone and done it. Try starting with Oz or New Zealand.
  24. I think they used to plant plums and damson type trees as a windbreak around commercial orchards, helps with attracting pollinating insects by shelter and more flowers. Good on you I say hope it goes well, but do people eat damsons anymore? It was my favourite pie as a kid.
  25. Was the dude teleported there!? Bit quantum leapesque
