  1. Edit: To slow about the training! Stick to your principles, otherwise you may regret for a long time, different league but would you kill an animal because your boss said so. Are you qualified to undertake the work? Ask for approved training. (Tales weeks and £s to sort) In the long run you should gain respect. I remember My boss asking me to lie in his behalf, I didn't. I was only a teenager at the time. They knew they only ever had to ask me something once to get the truth after that.
  2. Not to mock other trades, but some people who keep clean like joiners and electricians wear it because it adds to their "Pro Ego" But that kind of work is mostly dry and not hard on clothing. In that situation these items probably last well. Only my opinion though.
  3. I do this size in the oregon sawhorse. I can cut wood in August and have it down to less than 25% moisture by January. I am on the east coast and its always breezy though. If you cut to 6-8 inch perfect for granny logs. For me a requested product and alot easier to make as no axe work.
  4. Yes it would be nice to get this book back in circulation, I would have no hard feelings. My alternative is to go and sit in the local library and read it there, 10 miles away! plus the time. Or pay a stupid overpriced web price for a book that is out of print and some out of date info. I suggest if the book was just posted on if you know the location of it. End of matter.
  5. Dont waste the rest of the tin.

    Ratting

Sponsored ratting competition for arbtalk members, Winner gets glory. A bounty for each rat, or pay to kill. Money goes to childrens trust .
  7. Fair enough, but you would expect people on a tree orientated forum to work out that, no challenge just clarifying in case you had missed it.
  8. His intentions are ongoing. Paragraph two quote "I have a large garden with many mature trees that have been in need of a bit of TLC over the years " He aims to be independent on an ongoing basis.
  9. ST Barrie of gardenkit:001_rolleyes: Meanwhile the rest of us workshop on the edge of potential disaster!
  10. I did 21 16-18cm stem girth rootballs myself in a day in clay staked and tied, wouldn't of done many the next day! they were probably 100 ltr rootball volume. Set up a system so it flows and you can vary work tasks, if possible get plants in position before the day you plant then less heavy lifting on the day.
  11. Sometimes they end up vertical and you dont know where it will go. Safety issue.
  12. Ditto, these machines are sudden biters and VERY nasty when it goes wrong, this way of using it, should it flip could put the user in a wheelchair with brain damage. Accidents are unintended unforseen events. I know by someone elses experience. I don't normally express strongly on things and find Health and safety over the top. Spend £60 on a shaft and keep your complete body for life. Also put a bit of band or rope on the stop strangler for the tractor route it out the way under the seat and attatch it to the top link bracket so if the machine does get you you can still stop it with your other hand. Please heed these opinions and enjoy working and life.
  13. I steer clear of domestic fences if I can, too many boundary grab disputes IME. I only ever use concrete on steel or concrete posts, because Ive had to extract or work around other peoples quick holes dug with 360s and the like. You struggle to get it firm again without a tonne of concrete, then it shortens the life of wooden posts considerably. If possible and I can't knock em in, we auger and backfill with hardcore which breathes and doesn't cause the ground level sudden stress point. Depends if you are in it for the quick buck job done or want it to last. Unlikely you will get the replacement job if it fails in a short time.
  14. We do net 1st as above.
  15. Yes and if your credit card is linked to your paypal account your credit card should help. Sometimes if quick enough the payment is reversed I think.
  16. ROG covered this in a thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/arb-trucks/41316-trailer-towing-b-b-e-licence-rules-explained.html You will probably go bog eyed and suffer a nerous breakdown, something so simple yet you need a degree for it due to regs!
  17. Funny stuff wood. If you bought a bag of sand or gravel you get the same sort of amount every time. If you cart trailer loads of branches and woody material as opposed to chip, Its somewhere between 6 or 9 to 1 load!1. If you cut logs larger you get less in said volume. Can't weight it either, no doubt some irate EU jobsworth will be sorting it soon, Beekeepers can't reuse jars anymore and have to guarntee content specs, thats when no one is allowed to know where GM crops are grown, impossible task they have.
  18. Been a problem for centuries, How about Those hand warmers that activate when you open the packet, I wonder if you could open them when you leave the house, then put in a plastic tub with a screw lid and float it in trough when you get there, they last hours in your pocket. They cost pence and I chuck them in woodburner when spent because the ingredients are simple elements. Geese may wreck the tub though. Another elaborate idea dig a pit and fill with fresh manure or woodchip, sink bowl level and have a board to stop heat escaping, could last a month. Duck jacuzzi!!!!
  19. But it has order Spud wait till you see mine, It looks set dressed not ergonomic.
  20. I do think its time an industry standard was created, if we did it on here without an interferring clipboard jobsworth. We could improve our image and separate us from the rogue wood sellers. That is standardise volume and seasoning/moisture content. Nice stacking:thumbup1:
  21. I've been self employed over 10 years I do various things, all died off end of october, if it wasn't for firewood. Id be deep in the plastic zone.
  22. Used daily for hot water and ch now. Hope to fit hot water solar panels soon to avoid burning wood in summer. 11kw and around 8 cube a year.
  23. I thought if paypal they can reverse payment. But thats probably why they have their own "helpline" delays to get away.
  24. Ive had same Idea, just need to do it. I reckon 71 x 71 cm internal by 1m tall will give 1/2 cube and fit most 2nd hand builders bags. Sit board frame inside bag. Fill to top pull bag up Lift boards out, Maybe need holes in top of board to put bar through to lift if awkward.
  25. After months of plugging our macbook into the big tv due to an LCD invertor cable going wrong and no screen on mac, I ordered the new part around £16.50 delivered from arizona usa PBParts(highly recommended.) Fitted it today and now works brilliantly again. I tried to get the part in the uk but to many apple rip off attitude merchants selling 2nd hand at higher price or doing the repair for £200!!!!!! However I don't know if this post qualifys in this thread as I did it on kitchen worktop.
