  1. The Stihl woodboss project is a failure on my part.It isn't the impulse line nor the fuel supply line. Im giving up. I have learnt a bit from the exercise, but could of achieved more with that time. Cracked inlet manifold was suggested and something in the carb as an alternative. If it ever gets sorted will post the correct answer. Is this saw really worth it!
  2. SCRAP PRICE ALERT Went to scrap yard today with my parents old radiators. "Honest!" Scrap price is way down it was £140ish today its £ 105. So I reckon thet will be diversifying. Tarmac, and Garden jobs will be back in fashion along with dealing in 2nd hand goods!!!
  3. I would however suggest whilst not being an irritant have a clear idea between both parties if you care about the trees. Some powerline work I've seen is the bare minimum to get the job done and is not a good result for the tree. The reality is we should never plant anything that becomes sizeable near a powerline. But it does create employment.
  4. Fast work, I thought it was simple enough in design but never expected it to be that quick. Nice one.
  5. I have seen Martin williams bodies around they are in Hull Martin Williams (Hull) Bodybuilders
  6. Thats nice, how long did it take?
  7. Looked on the stihl website and only 5 dealers in Scotland, a witch hunt wouldn't take to long. Ive always been Husky so no bother yet for me. Im hard of hearing so the web is great for me I don't have to talk to anyone(thats great for hearing people as well) I have been to the local dealers to order parts for husky to be told "It will be 2 weeks when we send our next order" Not good enough as dealer is 20+miles through a hideous amount of speed limits, it takes 1/2 a day to get there and back in traffic. I have bought 2 brand new saws from them in the past. The dealers son/salesman doesn't have good product knowledge, has tried to make me less of a man than he is with attitude. I reckon I probably know more than him about Husky saws. Repairs are hideously expensive. I have sent 2 saws to a legend here on Arbtalk and as a result absolutely trust his work, he has a genuine passion and interest for the subject. Also is prompt in helping out with technical issues and problems I have As for profit margins fuel stations practically work for HMRC. Different businesses wildly vary in markup.Mine is pants, but I enjoying giving good service and customer satisfaction.
  8. Hmmm 4 hrs. Doing someone else's saw. When I send mine to you. It is stupidity. Initially I thought it would be a simple fix. I'm a believer in doing what you can DIY, within your limits but delegate to the skilled what they are skilled at. It's more effective. Live and learn. Thanks again. To be continued......... Probably as I'm still an obstinate mug. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. Just visual, wish I'd never got involved! When I saw the packed dust in the top of the diaphagm I assumed it wedged it shut. Hoped that was it. then bent the metering arm .5mm, I hope!! then tested fuel supply hose. I assume contenders now are carb boot leak. pipe from cylinder to carb. Or carb internals. I have never worked to this capacity on a stihl before and have spent 4 hours on it. It was encased everywhere in crud. Its amazing it hasn't smouldered by now.
  10. Still going with the good life Tony? Gardening is a bit naff so far this year for me.
  11. My experience of two years ago with a certain biomass buyer was. They clear felled them destroyed the hardwood around the pops to greedy grab more timber. Then deducted a margin for moisture content then paid up a long time later. It was a charity owned woodland as well. So my recommendation is be careful if you go down this route. Have a clear understanding before it commences. Thankfully you are a long way off from these particular greedy vandals, but nonetheless take care. I don't imply all biomass merchants are the same either. Just bitter experience that set this struggling under managed woodland back a few decades needlessly for little return.
  12. Last week I was struggling to find quality netting for a rabbit job and this company does up to 6ft in height and can make to measure I believe I read somewhere on the site. Galvanised Wire Netting | Collins Nets
  13. This is obviously an older saw as its made in WEST Germany. I tried this finally today. Have prettymuch disassembled the saw, cleaned and rebuilt it. The top plate above the diaphagm was packed underneath with fine sawdust. I have taken off and visually checked the carb boot and pipe that goes to the cylinder at the side off it.I took out the fuel tank line and pressurised the fuel tank line with a syringe, its fine. It still wouldn't go, however when I take the air filter off and put my thumb over the air intake It runs for about 2 seconds. But without the thumb trick the carb chamber doesn't get any moisture. Thanks for help so far everyone.
  14. Not necessarily. Next problem might be waiting for the awkward piece of wood to turn up. You also need to try the pieces in the place on the original then the design prototype. To prove any difference. I hope it works. It's the opposite of a racing bike tyre inflated at 100psi on a narrow footprint and a huge machine on 15psi or less carrying 200 tons. It's all in the science waiting for someone to work it out. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. I believe your initial penetration in to the log will be improved. But once the whole blade is in contact the resistance will increase as normal with a strong pinch. Also your mod will need to be short and stubby I think to prevent it being distorted by lopsided pressure. This is only theory from my imagination gained by axe hours of experience.
  16. Back to front? Or should of been wearing better PPE such as Y fronts. Sorry couldn't resist.
  17. His bottom?
  18. Have you thought of solar hot water panels. DIY fitting perhaps? Then just get a plumber to cert it if needed. It will boost hot water/CH and save on logs. Probably knock 4 months out you log requirements. I got a kit 2 years ago for less than £2k. Still need to fit it:blushing:
  19. We did the dam thing. Mate told his dad, it was only 1ft tall. His dad was dafter, he went and smashed it the next day so the following evening we we to see how it was going. Dead sticklebacks on the stones. Not impressed. We also spent hours throwing penknives between each others feet on grass. Used to sharpen green garden canes with a pencil sharpener, fit a nut on the tip with racing pigeon rubber rings at fire them at each other with homemade bows. We dug booby traps. I used to hang from a pulley upside down and zip line out. Of our home made treehouse. When you think what our normal activities were and how you are not allowed to do them anymore, no wonder the newer generations can't do much. I wouldn't stop kids doing what we did. 20. I bought one of these used it for two years, no nuts, bolts or wedges. doesn't look much but very effective. FENCE WIRE PULLER FOR TRACTOR | eBay The twister they do is very good as well. I find it better than the common bent hook end type.
  21. Hmm, got a stihl woodboss 24 av to look at from someone I work for. It has spark and compression. But took plug out and it looks as though no fuel is getting through. Perished fuel line? Carburettor? Any ideas chaps?
  22. You will need to do it in such a way that. You can take it apart or have it floorless, to empty the ash out.
  23. Have faith you aint gone fully soft. You only give em the peelings. Animal rights folk would of gone down to supermarket and bought "Best organic carrots" Then chucked the peelings away!
  24. Here is the stuff in action first picture a concrete encrusted wheelbarrow wheel out a skip. Brushed in acid. Its starting to react. 2nd picture, less than 5 minutes later. New looking wheel sec
  25. On the control point of it. Movement of ash nursery stock has stopped completely. Its not screened and tested. Just a blanket ban. Yet any Joe public could go up to a dieback ash and get some firewood off it drag it about then use his saw on a healthy one. Whilst I realise foot and mouth in livestock is not perhaps the same commercial threat etc. Look at the military response to that, even though it had glaring errors in its handling. Therefore would it make much difference if ash plants were back on the market. Simply plant lower percentage in woodlands to reduce risk. Increase genetic diversity out there. After all if its only certain environmental factors such as humidity, temperature. Its only akin to an allotment disease such as onion rot or clubroot. Just don't grow the affected plants in the affected locations.
