  1. Bash them in usually with a post knocker. I prefer hardcore packing as the post can breathe then, whereas concrete on wood posts causes a rot line at the top of the concrete.
  2. I chipped a pile in woodland three years ago. Had little room to operate in, one sycamore ended up being surrounded at its base in woodchip. I t was dead in less than 18 months. It was only a young one probably 8 inch diameter. It seems they like to have airflow. Also they are very suseptible to fungi attack. Ask a sawmiller they will tell you its a pig to season. I think at best you have logs.
  3. I only have pto driven chipper, yes I do run my tractor on red. But If it was a level playing field and rebated fuel didn't exist, crime(illegal use of fuel) would be cut and one less thing for the VOSA HMC&E predators to hunt down legit operators, wasting productive time, also cowboy outfits wouldn't have an opportunity to reduce running costs whether taxis, hauliers, farmers or whoever. I think one fuel to rule them all. Is the only way.
  4. Just put what you want on arbtalk. Steve has the knack, anything seems to come up in the 1st 5 or 10 in a search engine.
  5. Get a professional in.
  6. You wouldn't everybody would pay the same. Simplify. End of problem.
  7. Drill it out then cut it square. The finish quality will be even better. Nice use of an old resource.
  8. I've said this before. Its just too simple. Like moving clocks 1/2 an hr one last time. Instead of the disruptive faff, we currently go through twice a year.
  9. Level playing field on tractors, width limit supposed to be 2.45 mtrs until 21yrs of age i.e cheap haulage labour. Illegal to tow behind telehandler on highway. Also carrying goods on front. cpc course. Tachographs. Drivers hours/ working hours. MOT. 6 weekly inspections. O licence. Trucks speed limit on single carriageways 40mph! Trucks authorities and public number one hated road users despite low incident levels. Yes it will soon be unstrapped bale confetti season for farmers. No wonder hauliers/drivers get narked. Tax benefits, grants, subsidies. etc A level playing field would be uproar. Its highly unlikely to happen.
  10. Would agree, also will affect field maples and other relatives. Are the trees same age on council property. Could be soil bourne from supplier. It can take a couple of years to do its nasty.
  11. Thats a simple straight forward set up Liam. Did you just let it rest at the butt end on the log?
  12. Pyrus communis. Wid pear. 99% certain.
  13. wilted as well. I'd say a plum family. Damson, blackthorn(sloe), gage etc. I'd go with sloe.
  14. I know a chap that bought a scania 8 wheeler concrete mixer last year. It was about 4 years old it was intended to be a quick repacement for the one he had that had been wrote off. Had it in the country within a week or so. It took the authorities around 8 months to get the paperwork, approval, inspections done. I assume they have lots of coffee breaks.
  15. I have just bought this for my dad. Not used it yet. But impressed with spec and price/value. Its cheaper from same seller through amazon! http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BYY5SPS/ref=pe_385721_37038051_TE_3p_dp_1 Actual product is mospare, made in south africa. I imagine their grass is tough and stalky.
  16. Take a holiday from your regular job, you know you want to.
  17. And they didn't beat the price:laugh1:
  18. Blasted horses chavel up and ruin post and rail in my experience. I second the electric if its viable. Have you thought about either metal tree guards or wooden vase types. Will cost more, won't waste any grazing land. Last but most importantly will give the neighbour who is paying a classic parkland view.
  19. Anyone use a flame. Mind the brows and lashes though. It should rub off if it doesn't drop off.
  20. I have had same sypmtom on an escort diesel. Find the fuel solenoid on the fuel injection pump. Put a finger on it. Get someone to turn the ignition on and off. i.e oil and battery light position. Dont engage start as the viberations will not be felt. You should feel a magneticlly activated ping in the unit if it works. Have a look at them on ebay they are generally round cylinders with a wire coming out the top. A get you home fix is take it out. Remove the plunger and spring. It will start, but only stop buy stalling in a high gear with footbrake firmly applied.
  21. Definitely doable 2 men and machine in a day. But charge a day and a half for 2 men. That includes staking. If site is quite sheltered and plants are firmly rooted. i.e dont rock in their rootballs or pots, you can get away without staking. Assuming pots around 18 inch diameter. P.S on your invoice put Yew not ewe trees. Assume its the iphone being clever again.
  22. Predictive spelling, bane of my life at the moment. Antony waterii:blushing:
  23. Yes and its good stuff. I don't think it suffers the bio oil mess your saw up like some do:thumbup1:
  24. It will be good to see it from the apprentice side of things, don't worry about your spelling we can understand it. Keep it coming. How many weetabix? I've had 4 this morning, I vary it with either sultanas, raisins or a spoon full of treacle to make it a bit more interesting. This morning it with sultanas.
  25. Sounds a fair deal to me. Look forward to your review. I hope they are good, its an area that needs equipment, i.e not domestic and not heavy industrial.
