  1. Don't know much about it really, read it in a propagation book. Probably lethal to mr squirrel .:001_smile:I suppose if you are in the wilds of wilderness America, who else is going to be around. I'd personally be annoyed by the shots that missed and damaged the tree. Probably banned in the EU due to insect habitat disturbance.
  2. In the states professionals shoot them off various trees with guns.
  3. As Matt says concrete is a rot accelarator. Bash in or backfill. Only use concrete with concrete or metal posts. Many however do use concrete. But do they care about lifespan of their work.
  4. It is really easy to make your own spiral guard from water or gas pipe. Get a piece of steel tube that the plastic pipe will go through, at one end hacksaw an angle ( 45 degree or near enough.)through enough to fit a stanley knife blade through, but not so it reaches the other side of the pipe by 5mm or more, Fix this tube in a vice. Cut required length of plastic pipe with a little bit extra to handle it with. Drill a hole near one end, to insert a screwdriver or pry bar to turn it. Face the blade towards the end you insert pipe. Push pipe in an turn. You will probably save more in the time you do it than you could earn. Its way overpriced.
  5. Just had another thought. I saw new urban planting at Leeds arena last year. All the trees had up to 6ft high wrapped in hessian around the stem, a practice used to prevent damage in transit. They either sent clueless staff to plant them or left them for vandal resistance perhaps? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. Arrowhead would probably not force the logs apart enough. Power is another issue. We use a 21hp compact tractor and it jams and fails to split enough sometimes. I would not cut off the wedge. It is a shame they have welded the head on to the ram, you could've experimented with different heads. You could tack weld some tapered triangles on each side, see if that makes a difference. Grind off if no gain. I reckon pressure(power ) is your issue, your are not getting the 10 tonne potential. Bit like an ordinary person riding a tour de france bike.
  7. Thanks 10 Bears, Expect a deluge of pm's from us non office competent types.
  8. Did you do it yourself Steve? I did something by hand a while back like this. Tedious!
  9. I'd just knock off the £4 for your 20 minutes you wasted.
  10. :laugh1:This week over yet?
  11. Sorry to bring up an old scratched record. But HGV, special license needed. CPC. Trucks generally over £100,000 minimum to buy new. Authorities ready to hunt you down like a fox. Working out the maths of drivers rules EU regs, liable for not doing petty things with big fines such as not carrying previous 28 days records of work. (could be a £1000 fine if i remember right) Tractor driving is a lot less risk for the money. I've done both and yes wonder why I do the truck driving. Many HGV drivers not on £10 per hour:confused1: But I do agree with your comments Steve.
  12. Got to agree maximum profit is not the only thing going. I enjoy job satisfaction, efficiency of resources. I haven't made charcoal as yet. I do see the logic in seasoned wood achieving greater conversion. If wood shrinks when seasoning, unseasoned must lose that in the charcoal process. Reducing the volume in the contained area. Well done on working out the uploads. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. I'm in as well. Simple words of wisdom. Probably only getting revenge on you. Is what will become of it. Express your opinion to people, when it goes wrong they will respect your opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. The wasps can have all of them for me. Yucky stuff. I like the rope in the corner idea. You could have short lengths of chain hanging to floor from front pillars then a rope in a Y from the chains across the floor of the bed and 8ft of surplus at the tailgate end to pull at or tie to something and pull forward. The times I've climbed 45 degree woodchip in a tractor trailer to boot it down! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. That's the difference between being a commodity and appreciated. Sounds like the new boss wants to make an impression with the figures! I have hgv C&E I get £10-12 per hour right through self employed. Pay all my own training costs. Also it's a flat rate no O.T rate Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  16. Can't see a problem flying in the EU as long as no fuel/oil in saw and all the gear is not in hand luggage.
  17. Go to the local truck cover or trailer/truck repair company, they have to dispose of old curtainsider curtains etc. I have got 44ft curtains with one little gash in for £20. Cut the bit you want off and have the rest on stock for replacement or other uses.
  18. He must get some bush fires in that beard as well.
  19. I know what you are saying openspaceman, resistance and all that. The freeflow return concept is simple and effective, we have it on a multivalved postknocker. I have seen many pressurised valve blocks leak because of the lots of oil and not enough room to go anywhere quick enough. If I understand what you are saying you recommend flow from tractor to valve then back from valve to transmission sump via a larger size hose and coupler, avoiding the pair of couplers partner which also has to return through the tractors valve block. Our splitter operates on a compact tractor which does have a valve adjustment for double acting and single acting operations
  20. We have one i bought off ebay. It has auto kick out at the top of the strokeIt works great unless someone puts the pipes in wrong way round on the tractor hydraulics or puts the lever wrong way. Just suggesting in case you pipes are not set to flow right.
  21. Ive yet to see it round here, but there is a hush hush local plague of it. I think I have it nailed. But not going to say where as its private land, legal implications maybe. However have been shown dead ash trees and asked if it is it? "No ash trees used to die before you know":001_rolleyes:
  22. In the simple world of childhood. No Government dept working out formulas, do's & don'ts Mojo swoptops!!!!!! He just swopped his top and was anything he needed to be.
  23. As long as its modest Tony, don't want no see though stuff:closedeyes:
  24. It was a play on the expression "Having a dog and barking yourself." The cat it the picture purrs quite nicely. (When my hearing is switched on)
  25. It wasn't me operating Jon. Plus I've been that deaf this last couple of weeks, you could of let a shotgun off next to me. I would of felt it but not heard it.
