  1. I lend expensive/valued equipment with moving parts to a select elite few whom I am confident in. Other things like manual post basher more liberally. I have saws, because I care for them and saved up for them. Why should anyone else share that privledge. Would you ask someone you know to borrow his ferrari? Same reasoning applies.
  2. I certainly never intended to insult. If it was me. I had something really obvious pointed out to me recently when I was deeply focused on a problem.
  3. The irony of Law. This sums it up. My Grandads generation went "Bod nesting" as a hobby.
  4. Have you tried ringing to see if the answer phone says anything about opening times this weekend. I think it's highly unlikely they will be open before Tuesday, because they expect us to have a few days off. Not go shopping for gear. Whereas die hard working class people think it's an opportunity to have the special day out buying gear!
  5. Thanks chaps. I am evaluating a new pair of boots. The soles rotted on my last pair of eltens. The are probably 13 yr old. They are battered. It's bin time
  6. Bump:001_smile:
  7. That is a brilliant picture. It will make alot of memories for many years and help inspire a generation.
  8. Looks like you where the only one that knew about it! Where was it?
  9. Im not sure on the teflon, Im fortunate to have these folk in a tiny unit nearby. Direct Gaskets - Gasket Manufacturers, Suppliers of O Rings, Gland Packing, Non Asbestos Fibres, UK Always pop in myself, but they have made me transmission gaskets from a pattern Ive made the old way cutting with a hammer. For half the price of a dealer. Also got o rings etc for rams, valves, diesel sealing components etc. Highly recommended.
  10. Have a look on tractordata website list the brand then filter by power. Look in your range and check for pto type. Not all are detailed. I realise you want to save time, but by the time someone answers you might be sorted. Iseki TF series are not live drive. But if you get a hydrostatic type you rarely use the clutch.
  11. All genuine branded parts are rip off it seems these days. Its disloyal to the customer in my opinion. Lets look after them and rob them now they have the product. I have just enquired about a part from a small specialist machine manufacturer. He replied. If I need the part he will send it free of charge. Very rare. Another fair maker was D.W. Tomlin. I enquired about the red paint they used. He sent a tin of paint at below what I could get at retail price and the transfers.
  12. Flirt with danger boys think outside the box. Adapt proven technology! [ame= ] [/ame]
  13. On a positive, I never realised that powerlines were self cleansing. Really we should be chucking everything above them on them. Save carting the brash and chipping.
  14. All sensible and practical:thumbup1:
  15. No don't waste your money on polyester trousers. The spark ignition risk is to high. It would set a bad example of H&S, as a portacabin full of blokes is as dangerous as a full propane gas bottle. We obviously need to send to on a few courses to get the hang of this.
  16. History repeating itself. Will we ever learn? In Bill Brysons book "A BRIEF HISTORY OF EVERYTHING" he mentions when lead became industrial in a big way, the factories that made it had people keeling over and dying in large numbers. A Dr drank some lead solution and they analysed his waste, no lead in it. They didn't realise at the time, the body absorbs lead and keeps it! It took nearly a century to get it out of petrol, paint etc. Trust no manufacturer.
  17. Im considering setting up a buttwiping course, Bring your own peanut butter and brown sauce. Dummys provided. To save trees and the environment (paper use) sliced white bread provided. Folding and scrunching techniques demonstrated, pros and cons covered. 1 week course. £2k. Just need to negotiate with Bolam to lecture. He has been talking ******** since 1968. The only person that really has the calibre to deliver such a curriculum.
  18. The place looks denuded and battered, I hope you are there long enough to see it grow lush again. Excellent decision in volunteering, adventure and memories of a lifetime. Well done lads.
  19. Came across this whilst looking for other stuff. Just skip to end to see hinge. Sorry If its already been posted
  20. But they will provide light refreshments inclusive of that. They always promote it!!! Stop and Go synchronized lollypop twiddling is technical stuff then add, give priority to blue light services. AKA Twaddle.
  21. Knowledge of land, traction, friction, forces of physics are lost on many. They think they can do anything in 4WD. I've often had the pleasure of keeping going in a van . Whilst others muppet on. You only have to go down a single track country lane and meet 4WD drivers to know which can't use them. They daren't pull on to the verge!!!

    New Vehicle

Are you handy at maintaining your vehicles? If so I'd probably go secondhand then you aren't laying out as much money or fretting about scratching the new one. But if you are successful financially and can Accomodate the costs of a new one go for it. The pluses are having two vehicles you will always get a team to a job. What happens if you current motor fails? Flexibility of getting various things done at the same time. If a worker needs to leave early. Only that person needs to leave. You will wonder how you managed before after a while unless work dries up.
  23. It helps to have a balanced set of cutters, correct tension on chain. Also the technique comes with practice if how you push it through the cut. See also the Alaskan mill winch thread it is much easier with a winch in the mill for the body and you get a better flow of cut not wrestling with the saw.
  24. If you are pulling out the roots with a tractor or such leave four feet or more. Tie chain at top and pull. Not much root on leylandii. Otherwise go as low as possible without destroying your saw chain with soil.
  25. Never used solar but have used electric fencing. Make it routine to check battery and fenceline for earth. Probably switch fence off on a night if you lock them in the run. That way it should keep the solar charge in the battery. If you suspect fox is nosing leave it on odd nights. Man wee is suppose to deter foxes, but don't urinate on a live electric fence unless its being videoed:lol:
