  1. Assuming you use it Jim, how do you avoid being assassinated by debris. Also the H&S palaver. Do you dress as the stig? Got to agree front mounted hedgecutter is the way forward, my neck couldn't hack half a day looking over my shoulder.
  2. I don't know what model it was but I saw a kubota around 50 hp on a modern dairy farm this year. They run late model MF as a rule. I asked him what he thought if it. Good turning circle and surprised with it's capability.
  3. Chilterns seeds used to do a huge range of worldwide varieties. I have had success with them. I did chat to a nurseryman a couple of seasons ago about buying in seed. He preferred to collect his own as fresh really is best. Many of our trees in this country do drop and grow before the calendar year is out. Oak,conkers and most nuts.
  4. You won't be signed on for long. The grief job center will give you every time you go it will drive you mad. Meanwhile hopeless wasters will stroll. In and out without any hassle. Living the lazy dream. That's what happened with me anyway. I tried not to sign on and as soon as I did I got a job
  5. Definitely use a pto pump on the smaller older ones. You can fit a SCV to even the 30 year old kubotas but not really worth it. If it was a large ram it would need to be double acting to have sufficient oil in transmission. The pto pumps put just about all the power if the engine into hydraulics. We use them on tree lifters. It takes the17hp kubotas up to around 40hp capability. If you get someone who knows what they are doing you could use a higher volume pump gear and use less revs and fuel.
  6. Last time I asked I'm sure it was alot more. £40 or £60. I didn't bother, with all this refresher malarkey, you will probably have to do it all again for bigger £s School qualifications- no one ever asked College qualifications- no one ever asked Drivers licence- been asked to prove a few times. Knapsack cert- no one asked Chainsaw cert- one outfit did ask but I'm so glad I didn't join them. I've seen their work!!!
  7. Did you once mention something about being part German as well Big J?
  8. I have been doing nursery work recently and we lifted bareroot and rootballs last week. 6ft-15ft trees. There is always impatient customers at this time of year. If they thrive or not, we never find out.
  9. . Here it is at last. The tractor is a Bcs volcan 90 hp
  10. Very true late April arrives. Everyone has been plodding all winter not busy then everyone realises they havnt got the trees they intended planted yet. So the poor trees bursting in the bud go in the ground with no roots ready to support themselves. It annoys me regularly. Get them planted in November and December and they will look after themselves better. I'll leave it there before I do a manuscript.

    Wood ash

It should be sterile, also look how forests regenerate after wildfire in hotter countries. I imagine it does good. Offhand I recollect wood ash is high in potash. Potash is require for wood growth and fruit. I imagine early mid spring application for best results as the winter rain won't wash it away.
  12. No but I dare start now. If they are fresh can see no problem as any leaves will soon drop.
  13. Did you get a deal done Jon? Many of us looking forwards to the deal being done!

But you are cambelt proof for the life of the vehicle!
  15. We love a pedant! I get mixed up, if it's in a foreign tongue, me being a Brit ignoramus I just scrunch the file up and put it in a grey matter virtual paper basket incase it might be useful later. Every foreign language is the same to me as well! Being the wally as Well I went in said tractor today for a spanner and forgot to look at sticker. I will take a photo....
  16. Nice to see this effort you are making still 7th. I would send if I had any. Only got a paulownia at 2inch. Diameter. Have you got Quercus ilex already?
  17. Just a note. I noticed a sticker on a BCS tractor that if you use pto whilst the tractor is stationary you have to have one if the gear levers engaged. I assume it's a lubrication issue. I think Ferrari BCS and carerro are the same machine in a different colour. Hate to hear your transmission failed stuck in the woods. I will look at the tractor tomorrow .
  18. Then you have the potential problems of the legalisation, fuel, taxation class etc. unfortunately in this country due to the EU noose and our own countries attitude to allowing feasible working equipment we are always chasing round in circles, whereas somewhere like Sweden seems to see a problem, acknowledge it, deal with it. Meanwhile the unscrupulous carry on earning cash and avoiding it all.

Dont know about the older ones. Isuzu Technology | Isuzu UK
  20. I have spent 9+ months in Nz. We have visited most of both islands. Chch is flat and relatively isolated as pretty much anywhere in the South island. Its advantage is the higher population, but for me its like being in a university City in England. Which for that Id stay in this country. We have been through Chch a couple of times and never felt the urge to stay. It also has a fog/still air problem which made it regulated for solid fuel burning. Again this is most un NZ like. Fresh air is everywhere apart from the Waikato region central North Island especially in the heat of summer. This is my own narrow experience. I go to NZ for the fresh wide open space. As for traveling to or from Chch its the most Boring long NZ driving, we choose to fly from Dunedin to Chch then to Auckland for the flight home. No insult to anyone that lives there or likes it. Its just not New Zealand for us. Id go to Oxford or Peterborough instead. Its handier.
  21. Personal opinion only, Chch is one of the dullest places in NZ. Suft is boisterous but cold off Otago(Dunedin)
  22. heard a local one recently, A chap was losing trailers. He secured a chain to the rear of a trailer left it in shed, the chain was attached to a tree outside the back of the shed. One night rev, crash, bang, wallop the daytime scrap merchants had reached the end of their tether and gone through the tranny windscreen. This is unverified but inspirational. However there is issues with insurance due to his intent:confused1:
  23. Only refreshers I do is the sherbert type sweets. Do they still make em?
  24. Not to contradict any of Felix's comment, just another perspective. I have worked for people in employment, not treated well by them, then later on gone to work for them self employed and even though you do less and charge them more they treat you much better:confused1: Also these wannabe office manager types are likely to move on due to stepping on other peoples faces in their ladder climbing exercises. Well done TTM on having the balls and sense to see a professional about mental health. A good un can give you phenomenal constructive perspective.
  25. Ah. No problem, I was only thinking nowadays its all fuss paperwork red tape then send someone else in to finish it off. I was thinking the same thing from a different angle.
