  1. I would happily burn seasoned leylandii, but I don't think many people would buy it!
  2. I've made basic stencils before using cardboard, print out the design onto paper and stick that to a bit of card, and cut out the sections with a stanley knife, job done lol I've now got a plotter/vinyl cutter so could prolly have a better crack at them, havent had a need yet though
  3. Going by what they're advertised for round here, the price seems about right, but not "cheap"
  4. What about this beauty [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuHV0BlvjMc]YouTube - Woodsplitter homemade V-8 powered logsplitter, Accident Injury[/ame]
  5. Aye, I'm thinking it has to be faster than splitting with wedges, without splashing out on a powered splitter at this stage
  6. If its a crewcab then it will deffo be overweight
  7. I thought he would've replied by now, but Wee Jim from Ballater sells his softwood at the exact same price as you
  8. Has anyone ever tried a manual log splitter like the Clarke Logbuster 4? Clarke Log Buster 4 Manual Hydraulic Log Splitter - Machine Mart Looks like a large bottle jack mounted within a frame, with a "fast" and "slow" handle Obivously not gonna be as fast as a maul on striaght wood but I was wondering if it would be any use on knotty stuff? Or so my parents can split wood for themselves?
  9. Mister Solutions sell Stihl chains online, along with a few other brands Mister-Solutions Ltd
  10. You could upload it straight to youtube
  11. Also not much use in town as you turn your back for 2 seconds and someone parks up tight against your bumper (and I know what it's like, I have a ramp fitted on my van) Another intersting bit of kit is the U-Tail Roadload Limited U-tail Goods Delivery Vehicles
  12. Aswell as the gross vehicle and train weights, you also have to watch the axle weights
  13. All I had to pay for was the NPTC certificate to get CS30.1 CS30.2 CS31, had to do a year at college aswell though
  14. Probably a bit off topic, but I have a ms250 (don't mock me!) where the brake band snapped, then a few days after fitting a new one, the brake was getting harder and harder to engage and disengage. On close inspection the handle had a small crack opening up in it. The new handle I bought (genunine stihl, same part no.) is more beefed up, and feels like it is possibly made of a different plastic, suggesting they know of a problem with handles breaking?
  15. You may be exempt from a tacho depending on what you carry and how far What condition is the driver side headlamp in on the scrapper?
  16. Looks cool, the GTW will prolly be something like 5500kg or 5750kg Whats the trailer weigh empty though? Looks heavy, if its over 1020kgs then technically it needs an O licence
  17. Dead gorse burns like the clappers and is good for getting a fire going Nah do it at night, then you cannae see the black smoke
  18. I once saw an excavator being driven out of an industrial estate at 3am, which seemed rather odd so I phoned the local cop shop but the bloke on the desk didnt seem too interested
  19. I use a silverline firbeglass handle splitting maul most of the time, as I tend to be burning ugly knotty bits of wood I also have an old felling axe to use on the easy stuff, but think I could do with buying a new one as the head has a crack running down it and the handle is fairly battered
  20. I've been using cheap (£2/litre) 2 stroke recently, think I'm gonna go back to better stuff as the saw seems a bit rough when cold Has anyone tried the "Supertack bio chain oil" Clark forestry sell? Its only £40 inc vat for 25l, same price as the normal oregan chain oil I've never used bio oil before, does it lubricate as well, and do you need to adjust the pump?
  21. There was a guy I used to work with at the council who stood on the roof of the van to cut branches I also heard about the verge cutting team, the tractor with flail arm would get most stuff but signs etc need doen by hand. So they had one guy stood/sat on the back of the transit tipper with a strimmer whilst the other guy drove it, slowing down at every sign
  22. Here's some pics I found of one on flickr All sizes | Yellow bus in Poole! | Flickr - Photo Sharing! The top deck appears to be full of cuttings!
  23. I seen one once when I was down in the south of England, last year I think it was. Must've been Sussex or somehwere Brighton direction. Was a bright yellow open top double decker with all this warning tree cutting sign writing. I think it was a council not a contractor
  24. Surely stuff this dangerous cannot be allowed?! I mean, they're not even wearing hi-vis vests
  25. Spotted this in a vaguely local forest today. At a distance I thought it was a new type of marking for trees to be felled, but then I realised it was a type of double sided tape like a fly trap. Someone had spray painted "100 ->" onto a log by the track, which looked to be the number of trees with the tape on Never seen anything like it before but from searching on the internet it seems to be a way of detecting the pine lappet moth Forestry Commission - News - pine-tree lappet moth found breeding in scottish forests
