I think the most adventurous servicing before I arrived was changing the spark plug or airfilter, I don't think anyone understood what a pressure/vac test was or what a tach did:lol: I think the number of views this thread has had has been testimony to it being a success and has fixed many an issue and improved everybodys understanding of a tool they use everyday. I never thought it would be as big as this though:thumbup:

I couldn't live up to that, I did get her a kitchen tap for her birthday and the Christmas present was fitting it....today:lol: I bottled it though and got her a tablet so she could have "an App thingy" guess it will take a couple of days now showing her how it works:001_rolleyes: The Pie Maker was damn good though:thumbup:

  5. I would just like to wish all fellow Arbtalkers a very Happy Christmas and thanks for all the input on this thread. I think many have learnt a fair bit, many have sought help and found it and many a "scrapper" has found its way back in to active service. All good and thanks to Mr Bullman for another fine year of Arbtalk:thumbup:
  6. Been porting a 372XTorq yesterday, it has had a big muffler mod, lots of transfer work and a thinner base gasket plus a 5 degree timing advance. I wasn't sure I had done enough, the inlet port was about as large as it should be. The exhaust port has a VERY flat bottom edge that has caught a few tuners out - thanks for the warning Wes (WYK) You can pull out all the strato parts but experimenting on customers saws isn't really the way to go. Prefer to do this sort of development work on a knackered saw. Anyway - got to test it on some big beech today as a local fella had some to ring up. The smaller bit at the front of the image was 2' in diameter and the big bit at the back 4-5' in dia! The saw was pretty damn good on a 2' bar, really digging in and kicking out some good chip, keeps up good revs and think the owner will be happy. Had a little job for a neighbour, taking down a dead 8' cherry tree - done in a few minutes and a bottle of vino as payment - not too bad an afternoon:thumbup:

Tell that to the EPA:sneaky2: Seen a few saws that have had modded Strato systems, I can fully see the logic and gains to be made but TBH, it is a massive step to take with anothers work saw and if it goes wrong..................... It is one thing to get gains and another to get a steady idle and decent top revs, especially on an autotune! I guess we are looking for a machine that is near scrap that doesn't have much cash owed on it of much love left to give it:001_rolleyes: Here we go again..................

  10. You need to flatten those high points so the ring and piston will fit OK, run a hone up it to completely level it and then reassemble the engine and run it in. It should be OK, the plated land around the ground areas with the plating missing will support the weakened areas. The compression area above the exhaust port should still be OK. Try it, what can go wrong:001_rolleyes:
  11. Matty, the aluminium is bruised, my recommendation would be to grind it flat and not open the ports to get rid of the damage!
  12. It is possible that he puts a silly price so buyers contact him and a deal is arranged outside ebay to save 10% fees!
  13. I have only seen these holes on some Huskys, I would just use a bit of oil down the back of the clutch when the side cover is off!

  17. That was a MS880 that I did and it didn't show up until the handle was removed to get the cylinder off, the top handles are pretty heavyweight on those saws! Reckon it was stronger than the original after completion
  18. Seen their website but not used the product. Be interesting to see how it goes.
  19. TBH, that's not bad, think this was around double that cost. That plate was something like 1/16th gauge steel plate, beaten in to shape with a layer of JB weld on the underside and screwed in to place. I don't know how it stood up to abuse but it seemed very strong:thumbup:
  20. Have you got a chainsaw that will cut down my tree? Me.....How big is the tree? At least 6' tall and 6" diameter Me......I will have a look and see if I can dig one out:001_rolleyes: I think the ported 357 may do the job....in under a minute - probably nearer 30 seconds!
  21. The difference between success and failure is sometimes just down to tenacity, doggedness and down right drive! Glad all is sorted, sometimes it does take a while for the oil to flow through when the pump and ancillaries have been in bits especially with the bar on. At least is saves a trip to the dealer!
