  1. i stripped it down to have a look see and when i lifted the head i turned it over and the exhaust valve lifts twice per two strokes once a fraction when the inlet valve is open and then it opens fully on the next stroke i think this is why it backfires so i dug into it further and there is part of the governor hitting of the bottom of the exhaust lifter does any body have any info on these engines
  2. do u have big fingers or are they small chicken eggs
  3. i havent done anything as small as this but on most excavators you can take the final drive covers off and take out the sun gear in the middle and tow them out but remember and be ready to chuck some logs under the tracks incase it runs away at the top off any incline you can also use a porta power but you need to disconnect hoses and plumb it in on small stuff like this the brakes are usually fed by a shuttle valve in the feed hoses to lift the brakes
  4. is there a dealer for parts in scotland
  5. looking for some pointers about a kohler magnum 16 on a stump grinder.its backfiring really bad i think the valves are needing reground but it isnt an engine i am familiar with is there any service and parts manuals available for this there is also a bit of wear on the throttle spindle i read somewhere that the governors were poor on these engines .cheers to any advice

  14. i was thinking of the momentum the crank has that the rod would be bent i only removed a tiny bit off debris from the top of the piston and the crank was able to turn you can still feel the tightness at tdc i dont do tree work full time so although the saw is 6 weeks old it is literrally brand new thanks for the offer on fitting the barrel :thumbup:but i quite like doing stuff like that it makes a welcome change from repairing heavy plant:thumbdown:
  15. do u not need an o license for a mog?
  16. had a look on eblag there are quite a few is there much off a power advantage going from 56mm up to 58mm barrel spudulike have you heard anything like this before also do u reckon the rod or crank will be damaged by stopping dead at full bore i am not too sure i dont have much experience with 2 strokes i only really work on large diesels, if you stopped one of them like that you would be still picking up the bits yet
  17. does anybody know how much off an ass reaming a barrel and piston is and conrod and crank
  18. last cut off the day as well
  19. cutting down a conifer today next thing bang saw stop dead, pulled the cord seized solid, took it back to the workshop took the silencer off not a mark on the barrel but i was able to turn it backwards took the plug out and poked out some burnt sand this is a new saw it has done 3-4 tankfulls of fuel it didnt run out it has no induction leaks it has seen that little use the air filter hasnt even needed cleaning i think it is casting sand that has been stuck in a transfer port and came out and stopped it dead. warranty case me thinks
  20. he could have at least grubbed up the roots and spread their woodchip
  21. change the oil in the axle and make sure its the correct type as oil immersed brakes have special additives these break down and affect braking efficiency the give away is usually they squawk when you are braking
  22. i didnt think detroit diesels made an engine as small as that
