  1. Hi all, Sorry to bring the tread back to life but am looking like going down this route too with replacing my old transit with an Iveco 65 tipper and came across this thread when looking to insure the new truck. Just called NFU to be told they weren't taking on new business in my area? WTF?? Then called Aviva and was told oh no you have to go through a broker, so I asked, ok do you have a number for one? No you have to find that yourself. Seems as though no one is really interested in insuring a sole trader, big fleet yes, one tipper over 3500kgs, no thanks. No wonder we all run round overloaded. Anyone else had this or is it just me?
  2. Is a bit worrying the Conservatives had the majority and now they don't, the Lib Dems are saying they won't join forces with either Conservatives or Labour, so Conservatives might have to join forces with DUP, who aren't for leaving Europe. Seems like everyone's having a bad day
  3. Never understand how these work, there is no way on earth I would not go see the machine, check numbers, take machine at same time as payment, or am I just too untrusting?
  4. Looking to upgrade my tired old 02transit crewcab tipper. She's been a good motor, done all I needed it to so will be sad to see her go, but now I'm thinking of going with the O licence option, but could be tempted by a good priced 3.5t. So anyone thinking of selling one of theirs? Have about £5k Thanks Jon
  5. Had an issue with my chipper, rollers would stop on infeed, reverse would be fine. Took it to a dealer to look at, told it needed new box, loom and stress feed fitting 2K+, would rather get a new machine at that, took it back and got a guy who works on my diggers when I have issues to have a look, just a bad earth, sorted it and a few other gremlins for £70, gave him £100, big relief and big saving.
  6. Had the same thing happen to me when I lived across from a school on a small lane. Came home from work early to find a car on our drive, pulled right up to garage doors, thought someone was trying to turn me over so parked right up behind it, tore into the house to find no one there. Thought maybe it was one of wife's friends so stuck kettle on and sat down with a brew. 10 mins later knock at the door, opened it to a guy going mad at me, screaming he's head off about how's he ment to get he's darling angels back home and then down to the gym, hes doing cage fighting and is going to kick my head in, at that point my 55kg stranger aggressive Rottie started going nuts. He turned a horrible shade of grey and then fled back to he's car. I waved and shut the door. Thought I'd leave him out there stewing for 20 mins and see if he knocks again. 15 mins later door goes, open it to be greeted by a policeman. Asked how I could help and he said the man in the car has made an allocation that my dog had attacked him, I showed the officer my dog and explained what had occurred, how he had been aggressive to me and the dog was trying to protect me, as I'm not a cage fighter like the man had made clear to me. The cop had a hard time not losing it with the guy to be fair for wasting police time, and was threatening to get a recovery truck in as he was trespassing on private property. The cop came back over and was having a had time not laughing, he asked if I would like to move my car he would escort the man from the property, or if my vehicle wouldn't start he would have to leave the car there and get a recovery truck in at a time the was covenant to myself. Just wanted the head of it so hoped in the disco and moved it out of the way, as I did my dog came out behind me, went up to the cop and wagged he's tail at him, I couldn't have timed it better. Never saw the car after that, strange that.
  7. Have you considered the break down issue? It breaks down on site, job is delayed because of it, got 3xstaff waiting for it to be repaired get a guy out here now or a new machine type scenario. Then there's the whole, "I thought it would be ok not locked up over night as I know everyone around here". On paper it makes a lot of sense, but when it comes to the cold light of day I don't trust anyone to look after my kit.
  8. Think most of us have at some point been through it at some point, the help and support I got from here is nothing short of amazing. Where about's are you? Something I found was rec climbing a tree with someone else got me feeling more comfy after I lost confidence.
  9. Sad to hear, thoughts are with his family and friends
  10. Heart goes out to you Tony, don't think there's many on here that don't know in our own way how hard it was and still is for you.
  11. What about something like this Shaffer 442 Loader Farm Skid Steer 4x4 Chicken Barn Bobcat Tyres | eBay
  12. Bet the crane driver was oh so happy about the shock loading.
  13. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/94615-echo-cs-501sx-here.html Was a thread on it the other day I saw, looks like a good saw, after the issues I've had with a brand new MS880 I will never buy Stilh again.
  14. Something that will run a 2-3ft bar without killing the saw. Echo's are looking good at the mo for the price
  15. Was thinking of either re-fitting a Deutz 3 cylinder, as when it left Vermeer, or a nice Perkins. The Deutz would be the easiest, as its air cooled, but old. Perkins more powerful and parts are easier to get, so have to try and pin down a route to take. Ideally have to be something with 80-100BHP with a nice amount of torque. That looks a beast Bob, bit more up to date then mine lol
  16. Tendering for a large site clearance at the mo with good access so if it comes off will make life a lot easier and better efficiency. If I don't get it sure it will earn its keep. Yea the engine bit is a bit of a pain, but for less then £500 not to bad, plus a load of spares. Trying to decide if I should stick another direct drive to the wheel or go full hydraulic. That then tells me what power unit to go for I guess.
  17. Just got this  And then the boy met something as tough as him lol
  18. Luckily I realised after putting £5 worth in an almost empty transit tipper, brimmed the tank till it was almost overflowing with diesel. Got away with it, but certainly double check now each time I grab a pump handle.
  19. Hi guys, does anyone on here know how much a Vermeer sc2465 weighs so I know what I can tow it with? Going to look at one tomorrow morn, Thanks Jon
  20. Yep, had it am exclusive hotel in Old Windsor, area coned off, with tape around the cones, cutting and chucking, groundie stacking. All going great till lunch, then the hoorays came out for their din dins. Tape broken countless times, so they could cut out a 2 min walk around the building to the back of the restaurant. Groundie lost it with one of them and blink of an eye the assistant manager comes round, telling us that Our behaviour is not acceptable. I asked him what would happen if one of the guests were injured, he started to stumble and back track, then I asked him to get the manager out, who was the one who awarded us the work. When he came out he was nice as pie, apologised to us for his staffs lack of respect to our work area. He then went and spoke to the person who had complained about the groundie, who looked like a school boy being spoken to by the headmaster. Have been back many times since, which I was worried about not getting called back. Not roadside works I know, but sometimes you do get backed up when you're not sure if you will.
  21. Saw this on another forum, they had tried to blow it down twice, then someone decided to let a guy in a machine try to chew the sides till it fell down. While everyone can say the driver was taking a risk, someone else probably told him to do it. Love to see the RA on that one. Send a guy into an area with a tall stack that's unstable, yep that's fine.
  22. Sweet, saved a lot of hard work
