  1. Not sure about not needing a HGV licence to drive it though surely?
  2. Might have to employ them for when I get too old lol
  3. Ural 4230 Diesel V8 6x6 for restoration mot & tex exempt | eBay Maybe good for someone
  4. Stunning looking truck mate. Is it ok to go into LEZ?
  5. The port and piston went on my 200T a few weeks ago, dropped it straight into my shop to have a rebuild, didn't even try to get me to buy the new saw. Contact Stihl direct if you can, had major issues with my new 880, oil pump failed straight out of the box, took ages to get sorted, then it was fine, but bar and chain was knackered, got onto stihl who took it in again and sorted. Its still a heap, but a useable heap. Might have to send it to Spud. Good luck with it mate
  6. Jealous they get to work with real trees:thumbup:
  7. Had this happen when I picked up a mini digger with trailer from Exeter. Had just come off a massive hill and got onto the M5 I think, next thing I know is the vans jack kniefed, me and my mate were looking at central reservation while moving still moving in the direction of traffic. Some how wrestled it to side of the road, bit in shock trying to figure out what happened, dropped prop? lost drive? engine cut out? Got out and almost in a comical way the wheel from the wheel rolled up and fell over almost at my feet. All four bolts had come loose, doh, called the guy up as he was only 20 mins away. He came down, was really upset, hes Dad had used the trailer the day before to get the new digger that replaced the one I bought. Lucky escape by all really, so please guys, check your nuts at every chance
  8. Looks like a cool project. Have a bobcat skid steer and mini digger, been thinking about making up a stump grinder that can be swapped between them.
  9. When the shop fitted the uprated oil/fuel pump they said that they oil adjuster won't work anymore as its at the max flow. Half a tank of fuel is a full tank of chain oil. Expensive but if I ever get the saw sorted worth it
  10. Just sent Stihl a ranting mail asking one of their people to call me, 3 jobs its been on and let me down 3 times, that's a lot of money for no performance, tried running it slack and no difference, tight spot holds it so tight can't turn it by hand. We'll see what they say, offered to drop it up to them, their only in Camberley not far from me. Will let you know what they say. Thanks guys for your replys, and thanks Waz, glad its not just my bar.
  11. Thanks for the reply guys. The saw was brand new when I got it, ran it for 20 mins and it wouldn't cut thru 2ft of oak without stalling out. The first time I ran it when I got it home the section for the 2nd handle in the end of the bar fell out, plus paint was already showing signs of heat damage due to the oiler failing under load. After it failed to cut on the job I got it for took it back to the shop, they had it for 2 months, to be fair they did offer a replacement but i'd already sent serial number out to insurance to thought it wasn't worth the hassle or swapping them over, how long could it take. The saw was sent back to Stihl, stripped, reassembled after they found nothing wrong and then once it came back the same got sent back to them again. All work was done under warranty, including uprated oil and fuel pump, but now I'm facing the choice of buying a new bar to fit as Sthil don't do 4ft roller nose, or keep opening up the end of my bar. Or do I take it back to shop again and see if I can get a new bar and chain under warranty as this one is junk? After paying a huge amount of money for the thing in the first place makes my blood boil that its the most unusable amount of junk in standard form, surly the bar is not fit for purpose?
  12. Last year purchased an MS880 with 4ft bar, got the call from the shop few days later, got it, used it and it broke, few months later finally got it back, complete with new uprated oiler and fuel pump as the one fitted in the factory as knackered??? but that's another story. Like most big saws its not used everyday, I knew when I got it the saw would be used maybe 10 days of the year on the big stuff, but better have and not need then need and not have. The original job I'd got the saw for was finished off with a 660 a mate lent me to get me out of trouble. Saw sat in garage till 2 months ago, pulled her out drop a big Euc trunk, after few minutes of running smoke was pouring off the end of the bar, shut it down straight away fearing the chain would snap. The smoke is only coming from the top side tip of the bar, looks like a tight spot in the bar. Has anyone had this before? Or do you think it could have been where the original oiler packed up and knackered the bar? Any ideas would be great as I can't look at it anymore, really disheartened by it now.

  14. That's the hard thing about any Forum such as this, someone from within this industry can look at the ways others work and adapt any new ideas to their existing style, but other can look at a forum like this copy what others do to save money or try and make it. I personally think that training is great, but doesn't always prepare you for the real work, which is where this Forum works so well. The amount of tips and new ideas I've picked up from here is amazing, but I wouldn't take on anything that I wouldn't feel comfortable doing, as I'm sure is the same as most of us on here. This place is amazing, and it does a fantastic job of bringing together the Arb community so thank you for all your hard work.
  15. Mate speechless with a tear in my eye as most of us were as we read this post and looked into those eyes. If theres one thing I know about dogs its that they forgive in a heart beat, Toby wouldn't have blamed you, you were and always will be he's Dad. Don't believe in the afterlife but Rainbow bridge poem gets me hoping I'm wrong, look it up, have a read and a cry, which is ok to do, anyone who's had to say goodbye to their best friend has done a lot. 16. Hi Guys, Last year my old 084 kept blowing its head off, so took the plunge and brought a nice shiny 880 with 4ft bar. Few days later got the call to say it was in the shop and ready to go, great. Got it home and like any of us would gave it a start up, ran wonderfuly, untill a block of metal flew out of the end of the bar, WTF. Closer examination and turns out it was where the option fittment can be attached. Called the shop back up and they said it was proberbly just not knocked out in the factory, not to worry. Ok. Next week the job a brought the saw for, 6ft round Euc, was underway, all down barring the trunk. Wanted to clear up first so broke out the monster, thought it was a good idea to break it in gently on a 2ft limp. All good for 20 mins then it started to die when under load, would run fine when not cutting but the minue it started to cut really struggled. Called shop back up, being a Saturday wasn't sure they were still open, they were just, so they waited for me being only 10 mins down the road. Got there, told them what was happening, to be asked, "do you know what your doing?", bit annoyed at that, yes i do thanks. Guy said he had to ask. Their guy took it out to their log pile, 5 mins later came back saying it wasn't cutting well, kept stalling out. They said they'd look at it, but might have to go back to Stihl. Went back to customer and explained, he was understanding so all good, got everything but the trunk sorted and cleaned up, said we'd be back as soon as saw was back with me and I'd keep him informed. Fast forward 2 months, lots of phone calls, saw going back and fourth between the shop and stihl, stilh saying there was nothing wrong with it, shop videoing it and sending it to Stihl, Stihl saying send it back. Customer starting to get frustrated, he even phoned my shop to check I wasn't telling him lies. They confirmed there was an issue with the saw. Finally got a call from my shop, saws back, we've tested it, all working fine. Shot down there to get it straight away. Turns out there was a hairline split in the oiler and it wasn't allowing oil to the bar under load. Called customer to be told the trunk has just been dropped that day, but still wants me to stump grind it and ring it up. Doh. That was last November, ringed it up with 3ft bar and all good. Did another big Euc two weeks ago and this time the bar tip was burning, both top and bottom. Chain was grapping but loose on the nose. Had to finish off with the 084 with 24 inch bar, made for a tough day. Shop sorted it out that day and saws all good again. Did I just get a runt saw or has anyone else had issuses with new saws? Sorry for the rant and the essay, just really frustrated by being made to look a fool by an expensive bit of kit, twice.

  18. Had a very similar thing a few weeks ago, got a call asking me to give advice over the phone then quote for it at the same time. Explained that it I have to see what needs doing and site access etc, eventually he agreed for me to come over and view. Got there, two medium sized conneys to reduce back or remove. Advised that it would be best to remove and replant with something more subitable for the location. Agreed on a price he was happy with but he needed it doing the next day, Sunday, checked with my groundsman and all good, but asked him to check with neighbours first about them being ok with saws going earlyish in the morn. Phoned him back at 7 that nite and no answer, got a text half hour later and surprise surprise he said he'd already agreed to do it with someone else. Think I would have taken the phone call in a heartbeat now.
  19. Try giving the Dogs Trust near Harefield a call. Always take me for free. Or i know of a hotel in Old Windsor, PM me if you get stuck.
