  1. Started with old battered Transit crewcab tipper and like everyone else it seems an old 020AV, my brother gave me an one of he's spare harness' and off i went. After 6 months managed to find an old entec which had a mess up diesel pump for next to nothing, sorted that in two hours. Now got a much newier Transit crewcab tipper, same entec which is doing fine, loads of stihl saws and just got a mini digger. Look after what you have and build up as the work comes in, do a good job of it and it won't take long for the word to get around.
  2. Guys just wanted to share with you something that happened to me yesterday. Did i bit of conny bashing on Saturday but couldn't get it all in the 02 Transit crew cab tipper, so chipped the small stuff and went back on Monday morning to take the big stuff. All going well and finished by 11 in the morn, stopped at a shop on way home to buy a new ball hitch as mine is getting bit worn. Got back in and tried to start the tipper, turned but sounded very slow, like a dead battery and then it started, but at the same time a big blue cloud of smoke poured out from under the bonnet. Jumped out and popped the bonnet to find the cabling by the jump start point on fire. Lucky always have a fire extinguisher in the truck so put it out no problem. Two wires had shorted out. One is the main power cable and there is a smaller one underneath that's tapped to it that comes out the bottom of the fuse box. Just went onto the Transit Fourm and it turns out that its the glow plug fuse wire, happens all the time when one of your glow plugs backs up, So guys please check your wiring, I think I was very lucky, have heard that it can happen when the vans going along. Hope this helps someone
  3. Dogs Trust rehoming center has mine for free, they'll take as much as you can get or some of the big hotels around Old Windsor are always happy to take it.
  4. Hi Guys, sorry for late reply had problems staying logged in for a few weeks? Put new head bolts in and 3 took straight away, not sure about the 4th. Ran it up for a test and running sweet for the mo. Just gotta do one more job with it and then i might have to send it off to Mr Spud the lovely lovely man. Thanks for all the replys.
  5. Morning all. Yesterday finialy got to take down a conifer that had been booked in for two months, nothing special, too tight to drop trunk as had just put decking down so asked for nothing to fall on it, trunk was about two and a half foot wide so got to break out my 084 and just cut trunk in two and pass down to groundie. All going perfect until I heard what can only be described as a high pitched scream coming from the saw, power dropped, running lumpy. Stopped her straight away, gave her a look over, cleaned out air filter, turned her over and found a screw from the head laying between the case and handle mount, think all four bolts have come out and the head is just bouncing on the piston. So guys the bit I need help with is, can I re-thread the case or would this weaken them and cause them to split and crack or do I need to start saving up for a new 880? Thanks for all advice and sorry for the long story
  6. Gave a quote a few months ago, take down to ground level 5 30 ft thin conifers, chip and remove, short day for me and my two groundies, gave quote and the guy looked stunned, it was one of those, oh well moments untill he said the guy he'd just had round had said £1400, or £1200 for cash, him and the boys could do it now if he wanted, lol. I quoted £400 and felt bad then we were all down by 3. Endless tea and bacon sarnies in the morn and same at lunch.
  7. I take mine to the local Dogs Trust, they've rehomed two wonderful dogs to us so nice to give something back. Our Rottie loves going back as well so win win win all round.
  8. I always ask potential customers to get other quotes, my price is my price, some look at you and you can see it in their eyes, how can that be X pounds???? At least if they've had a few other quotes from other guys in the industry then they get a price check which usually is around the same ball park figure. Don't mind losing a job to some one in the industry, way of life, can't win them all.
  9. Would of got more than he's marching orders
  10. Hi, I might be able to help, could you send me some info Thanks Jon
  11. Always check with the customer to make sure it's ok first, but my Rottie has stopped some of my stuff going missing. A guy made he's way into the rear garden we were working in and it was only Swagger laying under a hedge barking and scaring the life out of him. Looked down to see him running for life out the side gate, Swags still standing guard at the kit while my groundsman chased after him, only to see a battered Transit pull off in a cloud of black. So for me as long as he's under control and the customer is happy I can't see a problem.
  12. For someone like me you can't put a price on this site, the advice and experience you guys give is real world that you can't be taught. To all thanks for everything you have and will help anyone with in the future
  13. A great loss, thoughts with all those affected
  14. Yep, Middlesex. Spoke to the manager at the Dogs Trust and he told me they had 4k worth of gear nicked 4 weeks before, the low life that would steal of a charity. They've even had to chain down the collection boxes. Got Autoglass coming out on Monday to replace the glass, £285 pounds though. Back windows had been dark tinted and then ply boarded, not bothering with the tint or board this time so the little darlings can see its empty. Oh well
  15. Hey guys, Just had the tipper broken into in Harefeild Dogs Trust of all places. They broke into the rear crewcab which is shelved off from the front and has the windows blacked out and boarded up. Only got an old 020 which had a shattered tank, or at least I thought till i got home and realised I'd left the 4ft bar and chain for my 084, doh. More annoyed at myself for being so stupid, but if i'd have seen them 40kg of Rottie would have had a nice steak. Keep an eye on your stuff lads.
  16. Thought I'd upload some pics of my boys, Todd my yellow lab who passed in January and Swagger, the Rottie we adpoted in March, both from the Dogs Trust.
  17. The best way I've found to keep all my gear safe is have our rottweiler come to most jobs with us. He took a bit of training but he's already put off one of the fine people who try to have the saws away. Some customers don't like the idea of him being there, but I check this over at time of inspection. Loves riding in he's section of the truck with the saws below he's bed, he's first in and last out. Works for me.
  18. Hi, Wonder if you can help. I've got an 1999 diesel 6"Entec which refused to start today. It was turning over, black smoke coming out the exhaust which I take to mean fuels getting through, checked all the connections but still no luck. Last week it was running fine, when shut down it didn't do anything to suggest a problem. Thanks for any help Jonathan O'Leary
  19. Just mailed Shell guys asking if its true and what can be done to supply us, said I'd gladly give my company info including tipper reg if this allows me to get fuel, also pointed out that without it we will all be forced to close up. Will let you know what they say if and when they reply.
  20. Hey Big J, well done, nothing like giving a good home to a poor animal that may not have had the best of starts. You have to give alot, but as everyone will tell you you got so much more back then you can imagine, although there may be some teething for the first month or two. Good luck
