So do I, my old man ran a Demolition company so was driving them since I was 6, as soon as I could I jumped at getting one, got two now, the big one and a little 3ft one. Great for brush dragging on a big site or log moving

Nope it didn't even cross my mind, was rushing to get to site to get work done, thought it was more of a bearing noise or brakes had playing up. I check my nuts reg so couldn't see how they would of come undone. Guys from the garage said its something they have never come across, will have to check them every morn now. I'm more annoyed that Wife or Kids could have been in the van.

lol thought that about the wife lol. Didn't think about them being stolen, but its just a Transit tipper, so not fancy alloys, and why put the nut protector over it again? Unless they wanted it to look normal

Hey guys, Just want to see what you all think about this, am I being paranoid or should I be worried? Last Sat went to pick one of the guys up from he's house, got in, started the transit, put radio on, off I went, slight knock as I turned wheel, but that was it, picked mate up, turned round, knock again, so turned down the radio, then heard a knocking coming from front nearside wheel, nursed van home to the drive and took wifes car. On Monday phoned garage to get them to pick the Transit up and was expecting wheel bearing needed replacing. Turns out all wheel nuts were finger tip loose. Felt stupid for not checking, but good got tipper back. This morn set off for Kent at 5 in the morn, got a mile down the road and knocking is back, but swapped sides, turned round and went home. Phoned garage up at 8 and said noise was back, they came straight out, good as gold, this time the off side wheel nuts were finger tip loose. Both sets of wheel nuts loose????? Anyone every had this? Can't think of anyone I've upset, but you never know I guess

It went back to Stihl in Camberley, complete joke, then it came back, then it had to go back again. Stihl refused to accept the oiler failed out of the box. First time uprated oil pump was fitted, second time they said they'd fitted another uprated oil pump again. Stihl it seems isn't worried about their customers in any way, the new and the old. Can't help but think of how comfy Nokia were at the top of the mobile market a few years ago, and how tough have they had it lately

So does this explain why it took Stihl 12 weeks to sort my brand new MS880 out bought in shop from dealer? Failed oiler straight out of box. Hate to think how long it would have taken if I'd bought online. As a small businessman, how if I'm up a tree all day, or on a chipper can I get to the dealers to pick spares. We all work long hours, as I'm sure you do, so why add more hours to an already packed day where my wife, daughter and son have to be greeted at near 6-7 each night by a tired husband and dad. If you can buy online in all over countries why not here? Is there more of a risk using Stihl then Husky?

Sometimes take climbing kit with you if its a big job your quoting for, rather spend a few hours climbing it to get the right perspective then just looking up and badly under quoting. Lost out on a few jobs as I'd climbed it and priced accordingly, then got a call a few weeks later as the guys they'd chosen to use had balls it up, then add more for clearing up others mess. When you do under quote, and we all have, take the experience with you the next time. Try to figure out why you under quoted, if it was outside your control then it happens, but if it was down to not having the right equipment and staff then that's what has to change for the next job. And don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it, the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask. Hope that helps mate, good luck

Hi all, wow thanks for all the replies, tried to just push through it at the mo, and its very very slow going, my groundies a great guy, but I can tell he's frustrated as much as he doesn't want to. The idea of a rec climb sounds like a good idea, might see about sorting on out next week, or hope a conifer job comes up lol. To a certain degree think I was trying to rush the tree down as six big trees to take down and this one was the small one. Lesson learned now though. The one thing I have noticed now is I'm thinking about every move I make, before this it was a sub conscious process. Hopefully in a few weeks this will have faded back to nothing again. LOL loving the idea of climbing in silky chainsaw boxers shorts lol Thanks all, every reply holds exactly what I needed, help, advice and as always wonderful humour that did make me chuckle about something that a few days ago had me worried I may have reached the end of my career in and up a tree. Hey guys and girls, need some help and advice, had a limb fail a few weeks ago on an oak I was taking down, not high, about 20ft. Was just a normal limb removal, put undercut in, then top cut, limb ripped out almost snapping my leg, got myself down, limped to the van and almost passed out. Went to hospital and it turns out I got away lightly with a hair line fracture to my lower leg. Strapped it up and got told to rest it up. Fast forward 4 weeks and returned to the site the accident happened to re start the job. Started as normal, good mood and laughing and joking with groundie as norm, started to climb and then went to pieces, was getting flustered, started feeling sick, even shaking a little. Any one have any tips or advice for when they've had a fall, know I need to get back on the horse. Thanks Jon

Just mailed TFL about getting a RB44 to check if it was ok to drive in LEZ, seeing as there are no filters for it, and it is an ex military truck and a specialist 4X4, but a straight no came back, but if I reg it as Ag I think it would be ok? How does that work?

Would love to have an RB44, but sadly TFL has said that they don't comply with the LEZ so a daily charge of £200 would be due.

As said above mate. It costs a bit but the edge it give you is almost unfair. Profits go up as well as customer base, so win win.

Don't get the 48" bar, solid nose, saps a lot of power and it bends too much when trying to drop big trunks, its ok when ringing up but you can't ring up what isn't down. Get the 36" bar and then get a bigger bar and chain from elsewhere. I've always been a Stihl man, but at the mo they are having a lot of quality issues. If I had my money to spend again I might be tempted by the other side. See if you can see them side by side, get a feel for them.

What are the advantages of a solid nose bar? My 880 has got a 48 inch solid nose bar and thinking of replacing it with a roller nose, if I can find one.
