  1. - An LPA serve an area TPO - Landowner applies to fell 10 trees (not worthy of TPO in their own right) and LPA permits, subject to replanting of 5 trees - The LPA revisit site and specify individual trees/groups and make new TPO (rather than amending the area) - Area TPO not confirmed so lapses - New TPO to be confirmed. Q1: Did the condition to replant die with the area TPO? Q2: If Q1 = yes, was the error in making a fresh TPO rather than modifying the original order? Thanks in advance.
  2. Blue marlin, gone in from the side. Are you near the sea?
  3. I just called them about PI cover after reading your post. Having not spoken with any companies yet and at point of needing to buy a policy, the guy I spoke with was massively helpful so I'm awaiting a price
  4. worms/can
  5. 1st stage retrenchment pruning in veterans to save climbing out to the really small material? MEWP access and standard saw would be preferable though.
  6. I like Ivor. He sounds kind.
  7. I have the HCC correspondence course books, questions and answers, about 5" thick of stuff. unsure on how relevant they are to today's syllabus but they got me through the exams 2 years ago. I don't need them anymore and I haven't even tidied them from under the coffee table and now my wife hates me.
  8. Totally agree with this
  9. I'm glad you managed to decipher what I meant!!!
  10. Rather than make a new thread, I'm gonna hijack this one. With the professional liability insurance, say the annual policy runs Jan2014-Dec2014, say I carry out an inspection/report in July14, I put on it report valid until July15, does the cover cover the date at which the report was made or will the policy need to be renewed to cover the date at which the report is valid to, therefore guaranteeing that one must have 2 years insurance? I hope that makes sense as reading it back it is babble
  11. Lucombe?
  12. First thing that came in my head for first one was G. pfeifferi but I have never positively ID'ed that one before as I haven't knowingly encountered it.
  13. Just out of interest, what sort of assignments did you have to complete?
  14. Know when to draw the line. It's about understanding your staff and pushing the banter with the ones who 'get it' and keeping it strictly business or lowkey with the ones who don't. My last place we ripped into each other, which we all enjoyed. Only time I lost it was when some arse pulled all the keys from my keyboard off and replaced them in the wrong places which took me an eternity to sort out, which stopped me from being able to do my job. At my current place, it's strictly business. Different culture innit.
  15. where in the country are you? if you are considering foundation degree level stuff then you could also consider the level 4 diploma in arb.
  16. Jesus Christ
  17. Did Krav for 3 years. Was going 2-3 times a week and combined with work it drove me into the ground. Then started college for the L4 and had to call it quits on the Krav with all the coursework. Promised myself I'd start again when I finished college, I didn't Got used to having sitting down and relaxing time. Good thing about Krav was once you got into sparring, you could be with anybody, from new people to people who have been going for years, to people who are massively good at something else e.g. boxers, MMA mateys, whatever, small angry people to 18 stone beasts who you didn't want to get tangled up with so every session would be a learning session.
  18. Probably best for someone who knows what they're doing to have a dig around the roots to assess decay. This can be complicated with Meripilus as as far as I understand, it affects the underside first. Thinking about it, I think it begins beneath the stem hence crown can appear perfectly healthy. Once dieback appears in the crown, it suggests it has progressed to decay the roots which then has an affect on the stability of the tree. David or Hamadryad, can't remember which, maybe both, have linked to a picture of a proper old beech that appears to have had Meripilus at some point in its history but which does not appear to anymore. Imagine that would have been in better rooting conditions than in your situation though.
  19. I sent the rabbits a text and the cheeky sods replied 'bugger off'. I'll get my coat.
  20. I like Derek. he was very forthcoming with quality biscuits and extremely helpful and clear with his teaching.
  21. agreed. I'm guilty of giving the option on occasion, internally, in which case the particular tree is discussed with my boss as to how exactly he wants to spend the money. positives and negatives stated to them. I don't like doing this though as like matey above says, sitting on the fence is guff. I'd never present a contractor with a choice though.
  22. as you're in Poole, did you do yours with Derek?
  23. nice!
  24. Just found that Germany took debarking quite seriously in the 1500's; Translated to: Might put some signs up on few boundaries I manage. Hopefully will put a few people off, although there will inevitably be some hand-wringing loonie-lefties who say that this punishment is unnecessarily harsh. (source: Wikipedia)
  25. With yer batslots, bore the saw in then move the tip inside so as to make only the interior wider, not the entrance.
