  1. because you can abuse it, steam clean the inside, feel pleased when you drive something else more comfortable and there's a market full of cheap second hand bits to bodge it back together......and overpriced yes they are!!!!
  2. Its not a big enough market for the basic things they are is what i mean. Ur not wrong in what you say about them, but they have a niche market and its getting smaller. Most people want what you have posted, but for some of us they wouldn't fulfill the role! That's the long and short of the story of the dinosaur defenders!
  3. Its just not a big enough market, because most users by second hand workhorses and the workhorses of before wouldn't comply with current emission regs so its a nearly impossible market.
  4. I have to agree, I clean my farm disco when its MOT time or if the weeds and seeds start growing on the inside or if the you can't open the windows quick enbough before the smell wants to make you puke, and the 90 about the same! So safe to say i'm no clean car fanatic, now my older brother cringes at me. He cleans the engine bay of his car and takes the alloys off everytime to clean behind them. He's a cleaning fanatic, he's just been on a weeks holiday to dartmouth, on the south coast, as there was no garage to put the car in he took his gazebo with him to park the car under all week........thats dedication! We have some good jokes between us about it, but thats what its all about, if we were all the same it'd be boring. I love leaving lumps of mud behind my truck where i park it, wife always says if i got lost anyone could follow the mud to find me!!
  5. not sure there will ever be a 'true' defender replacement.......
  6. You obviously were in a neighbour hood where at least the criminals like to be clean and tidy!!

no and er no!!! What some people pay is daft, long as you described it right why worry?
  8. All i'd say is don't have that all in one length, otherwise it'll be so heavy to carry and roll up. All our 12mm recovery whips are 20m long with a hook and eye spliced into the end then you can just join two together easily without fear of it falling apart setting it up. And it won't be such a task rolling it up or carrying it!
  9. the 3000's are very sort after in the tractor restoration world! Good work horse, proper tractor and it was biuilt on the theory, no smoke no poke unlike this modern emission compliant heaps of technology. You've been lucky to be given it, a tidy and a spring clean with a bit of paint, she's probably worth 5k........ you enjoy working her!
  10. I use our browns saw bench for ripping down timber for fencing or planks. Its got the standard TCT blade on, works a treat. So get ur blade fettled up and she should be good IMO.
  11. Tis a great bit of kit, just wish they'd do one for .404" on my 880 though.... or do they and i have missed it?
  12. Rob, how long did it take to make one pass down this trunk in real time? Good job, looked some nice slabs!!
  13. Yeah Big J's offer is very good with what he's just come with wanting for it!!! I think in an earlier post a said it was a rollermatic when u said it wasn't cuz i was so sure it was........ooppps. Does seem daft they do bigger rollermatics but there must be a reason somewhere!! Best i get and order an alaskan now, not cheap, have considered making my own but i've got a feeling there been a lot of developement in getting the alaskan to work well so it should be money well spent!! Was going to build me own badsaw but cutting wide enough boards is the problem, then i watch ur video using it in conjunction with a peterson and that looked best of both worlds!!!
  14. Well i guess there's one way to find out, and thats to try it. Big J's offer is a good one to get me going in the right direction. If i buy a 56" alaskan, will i be able to use it with these smaller bars?
  15. Hi Thinking of buying an alaskan for turning some big logs into something usable instead of just logging it up into wood burner. Currently run a 30" rollermatic bar and a 48" duromatic bar, but really want a bigger bar than 30" but the 48" is going to get to hot i'm guessing doing longer cuts milling timber......i could have swore it was a 48" rollermatic bar but it ain't So what do you lots suggest i use?
  16. stinks to me, wouldn't do it. I'd do as nick has said, take a big mate or two if ur not a brick out house and pay when u've seen it!!!
  17. Guess it depends on how much you use it, but personally i wouldn't. Its a fairish sized saw and if you work it hard i don't think they'll stand up to it. I wouldn't put the cheaper parts in my 880 if i could get genuine.
  18. Very nice milling and very nice bench. But very very very envious of your view and location, would love to have that kinda view but not sure 400cows would be the best thing to move to Mull!!! Good job
  19. yep its still alight, and will be for few months yet. Bleeding cold sat down in this cold farmhouse all year!!
  20. Dunno if it works the same, but try rubbing veg oil into them and then washing them as normal after soaking for an hour or two....... Can't see it causing any harm to the safety aspect. Otherwise ur gonna have to take the comedy moment and smile everytime you where them!!!
  21. No sorry its the RAC and ur not covered under your current policy, for £9.99 you can upgrade for future incidents.
  22. Very good post, I'd have a few dozen on hire for some work detail. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't like it if they didn't get the hang of a hard days work. But they'd be a damn sight keener not to end up getting caught again and might actually learn something they can use to further their lives! Hard is not defined by the number of people you kill, injure or have maimed. But the number of people you help in the shadow of adversity with respect and control and without prejudice.
  23. You won't have a problem from the tractor point of view, but i'm not so sure the chipper will like all the bouncing about. Probably better on a fastrac or mog as you have more suspension. Either way the tractor won't struggle with lifting or carrying it!!
  24. looks about right for the price i'd have thought, but too 'machined' and 'picture perfect' for my liking!!! Much more rough and ready for me!! Especially if i'm building it!
