  1. Black Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots - YouTube tried to post a proper link but failed, sorry
  2. I was just going to say try Spud, I would also say a good Husky will last you years but I am a little bias but thats only from experience and mine are still going strong, all be it not used as much now but there were & never let me down. Good luck, just remember a cheap saw is not always a cheap saw!
  3. Did the police take any finger prints, hope you reported it! a friend knew some game keepers who went to a big game fair a few years ago and a load of landrovers were targeted in the same carpark, they took roof lights hylift jacks anything that was easy to unbolt. How did no one see them in broad daylight in a busy carpark with attendants directing parking? Just goes to show if the cheeks bastards take a chance its so easy
  4. Obviously you had problems but I have used it on 20+ year old saws and found Aspen very good. A farmer friend has a small stihl for firewood, he gets it serviced when it stops! it never runs at full revs and dont tick over but he is happy as it cuts his wood:confused1: I cant seem him ever paying for Aspen and his fuel stands in a can from one year to the next until it is all used up, then he buys more. This must be typical for the older generation of chain saw users, there was a time fule would last more than a month:sneaky2: but times have changed. One day I will fill his saw with Aspen just to give it a clean and show him how it dont send out clouds of blue smoke:thumbup1: I always use Aspen now, saws run trouble free and clean but I have always maintained them myself and as a matter of routine, removed a carb & gave it a clean. It saved so much down time when working and can be done in half hour on a wet night when there's nothing on telly. Maintain your tools regular and they wont let you down, using Aspen makes this so much easier but should be made much cheaper so more people would use it. It's a bit like all things green, over priced not developed and made easily available or subsidised to help everyone. It just ticks over in the background when the evil giants of the petroleum world rob us all blind. ps; if you can afford to burn it on your bone fire please give it to me
  5. all the above are right, I would go over the area with a tooth comb, we had a small compressor taken once the bastards...... for want of a better word. they threw it over a 9 foot fence and were probably so tired after that they just hide it in a ditch, obviously not used to hard work. we found it before they came back for it, no one was ever caught police didnt really want to know as in the past they prove to be no help and seems the law is on the wrong side. (see other posts re diesel theft) Hope you get some luck with this, I would like to say happy new year but...............
  6. poor rivet, whoever done it must have been practising
  7. great work horse, not as comfortable as the many imports around but will last longer and do the work when the fancy ones just get bogged down. I got an old S11 sat in a lock up for years never seen daylight since it had an mot 10 years ago.
  8. I had a stone come at my windscreen from a tractor cutting the verge, it was very early in the morning with no guards on, they thought no one would be about!! rang the council they said it was the contractors responsibility so we said they were having the work done on their verge & we would take legal advise. Ten mins later the contractors rang us to say take the van to that big windscreen replacment firm :-) we did & had it done within a couple of hours. Great to have a new screen the wipers worked much better on new glass. Dont let them fob you off, they are responsible but will give you the run around if they can get away with it. as if you need hassle
  9. shoot the bastards first as last, end of story. The law is on the tea leafs side as you will see in a post somewhere here when I replied to someone saying how I reported diesel theft & the blue lights didnt get off their arses quick enough to catch them so they drove off with 5 or 7 25litre drum fulls. I was told by the law no crime was committed unless the unlucky sod who owned the machine reports the theft? Rant off my chest :-) I engrave all my tools in a place thats hardest to grind off, it may not get them back but I dont let them out of my sight to get them nicked
  10. it is a sad state when so much money and time is spent with firemen/firefighters going on courses, they are not trained to think for themselves ie COMMON SENSE! they are trained to follow rules and be like sheep. I seen them at work a few times and despite all the training they still made a balls of trying to put fires out. Just keep your fingers crossed you will never need them, saying that they are all we got & do a great job if left alone to get on with it. Just bear this in mind when your up a tree in the rain making money to pay bills, the people making the H&S rules and them following it up and making much more money in a nice warm office.
  11. stick with what you know, if your happy with them why change?
  12. had to take an old beech down once that was 30' from a bungalow fence, we took most of the weight out of the top one afternoon and was going to drop it the next day, thats night wind picked up and the tree split landing next to his fence. When I got there the fence was down and he wanted to claim off my insurance! it was only later that day I seen a friend of mine who lived near and siad he seen the fence blow down before the tree feel. The crook even threw branches on top of the fence. He got in touch with the agent I was doing the work for and they forced the insurance to pay up just to save a load of hassle, that cost me £200 when I worked hard trying to make a living. The old bastard is dead now & good enough for him. Another job was a small one, ask how much for cash so I dropped it a little then had to chase the guy for a week to pay up then he paid by cheque, you live and learn. Now if they dont like the price they can do it themselves.
  13. well worth investing in one, I have the TT 20K and very pleased, Richard the sales guy is very helpful and highly recommended. Much better than a Stihl which has a limited life, the TT uses a PP9 battery so easy to replace & lasts years. Anyone invested money in 3 or 4 saws or does their own work on them should have a rev counter, it makes sense even if you been tuning by ear for years
  14. My thoughts also, seems like they have chain proof jeans in the states because they all seem to do it. But in his defence he did have rigger gloves on so "he was ok"
  15. HA-Ha have you seen my thread on too much fuel, the saw started ok no problems and all running fine today even if they are smoking a little more but no damage done. If I were you and esspecially as your not cutting regular, but 5L of Aspen 2. You dont need to mix oil with and and foolproof for a beginer. Put your saw oil to oil the bar, if your still not sure. For gods sake buy in a lorry load of cut logs before you kill yourself, a small saw will kill you just the same as a big saw especially when your not sure so please take care & ware all the safety stuff. It may just save your life. Now go and flush the tank out and get some Aspen2
  16. Lidl was selling similar about a month ago for £24 I think it was, they all sold out same morning so people were grabbing them. Like Spud said be careful with them and take your time. Yes they will grind a cutter quickly but also wreck the cutters just as quick. I still prefer a good file but if I could get a good grinder at a good price I would have one. You need to know exactly how the chain angle cuts to be able to keep it sharp, the DIY market just havent a clue but then they only use it to cut the odd log or stump in the ground lol
  17. First and only time, brain not in gear so made allowances for myself lol Your right Antipesto, it was better than going the other way. I have seen some crazy people just throw some oil in a tank, it could be anything from 100-1 to 15-1 How do they get away with it, or do they just keep buying & selling saws on ebay when they get trouble. I doubt they could use a computer so thats ruled out :-)
  18. Why did you sell, I sold mine years ago & regretted it ever since. Best saws on the market STILL going strong (no that was not Stihl lol) 266 lasts forever, easy to work on & never let you down...... got me in tears now :-(
  19. Mixed up fuel tonight for the morning, then realised it's 20-1 instead of 50-1:sneaky2: I know I could dilute it but none left so it will have to be used & hope I can see what I am cutting through the smoke Has anyone done the same:blushing: First time in 40 years so thinking it maybe time to pack it all in when the going is good (has it ever been good)
  20. a friends fell out of an oak tree, farmer got ambulance they had to carry him over two fields just to get to the road, busted spleen busted hand/nose and died on the operating table but was lucky, he still climbs but it slowed him down for a while. one very lucky guy
  21. its ebay, if they get a good price good luck to them, some daft bugger will think its a bargain lololololololololol
  22. I 2nd that, cant go wrong with the older ones, my 254 is still a cracking saw:thumbup1: why they keep trying to improve = if people didnt want the latest new model It sells saws I suppose ok talking dangly things, but i'm happy knowing my old saws are reliable:thumbup:
  23. the manufacturer always state the max speed which is very low so guess they would only be good as a get you home sort of thing, horses for courses and all that Last years snow was fun with people driving at the same speed as a sunny summers day, crazy and passed a few who paid the price and wondered why they were up a lamp post.
  24. No problem mixing syn with min oil it will work fine, not sure on bio thought I never used it. a farmer i know been cutting wood all his life with big husky saws and always uses engine oil 20/50 with no chain or bar problems whatsoever, I think this is a bit on the thin side but he swears by it & the proof is in the pudding sort of thing
  25. I had a Merc van (307) and the manual said in winter add paraffin to the diesel to stop it waxing/freezing, about then they were bringing out fuel with additive so no need to worry about it freezing, but it did work. Have you seen the price of paraffin these days? in Aberystwyth I seen 4 litre for £10........ in hardware shop near me same container was £5. But I can remember it half a crown a gallon......... :-) I remember one winter under a ford transit with a hair drier trying to warm it enough to start, it was bloody cold! I lost a few days work then but never since.
